i'm going to go against the grain and say mike james was an excellent player..

he needed to be managed properly. easier said than done of course... would be good as combo guard leader of reserves.

he was a ball- hog of epic proportions esp.. in overtimes....

i think guys who come to lousy teams and have an enhanced role va. historical role are at risk of "mike james disease".... rafer had some similarities. although good distributor he had too many 3's...

One thing I really liked about Mike James was that he could get his shot off against anyone in the league. He had a pretty amazing handle/crossover.

In Raptors franchise history, there have been precisely 3 high-volume shooters who have also been efficient scorers. Vince Carter, Chris Bosh, and Mike James.

MJ literally won games for that team. If it weren't for him that team would have being blown out by 20+ consistently. Never understood the hate or him being called a chucker. The guy was one of the most efficient guards to play for the Raptors.

At the time I was all for resigning him. I think his play would have not fallen off as much as it did if he was still with Raptors. Playing pick/roll with Bosh was part of the reason he was shooting lights out. Him/Calderon would have being good PG duo.

The comparison with Lowry is kinda unfounded in terms of playing for contract . Lowry has being pretty steady player for the over years. You do not notice sharp improvement in his game, rather slow and natural progression. Given his age, I think you can safely assume he will get better and/or stay at this level for another 2-3 years before any regression due to age.

Look up advanced stats for both Lowry and James, it's not even close. Mike James is a mess.

This comparison is ridiculous because of the outlier nature of Mike James' one season. But people clearly don't realize how good James was offensively that season. The Raptors were great offensively and he was a key reason why.
