We need a backup SF and C. And Bruno won't be around next season, right?

I can see De Colo return as well, because i don't think that nobody will pay 2 millions for him...
But I think that with 16 players in the roster, and so many players that interest us (Sefolosha, Carter, Lewis ...), Ujiri has in mind to do something more important.
A big trade coming..Hayes, Fields, Hansbrough, Novak...so many expiring contracts..

Bruno will be part of the Roster and probably go to D-League (according to Ujiri), Nogueira maybe he will not.

The way our cap situation is if GV and PPat come back just use Landry and Novak as back-ups. Then Fields will at least come off the books and you won't have added salary. If PPat leaves well then sure sign someone.

To use even close to the full MLE, we'll have to use the stretch provision on either Landry Fields or Steve Novak

Nogueira for now still doesn't appear in the Roster.
Maybe make the summer league but will not be part of next year's Roster (?).

If we can lock up PP and GV for $10M total, we can probably squeeze Thabo in there before the tax threshold no?

No way. Pat and Vasquez are a big part of the reason why we won a franchise record 48 games last year.

1) I wouldn't count Noguiera in the totals just yet. He's still signed to play in Europe next year and he's still quite raw. He won't necessarily be brought over for this season. If you remove him from the totals then we have roughly 16 million remaining with 11 players signed.
2) If Vasquez is signed I don't see De Colo being back especially at a hefty 1.8 million. He would likely be renounced.
3) If we re-sign both Patterson and Vasquez to 10 mil combined then we would be over the cap and have the full MLE to use before going into the tax with 13 players signed.
4) If Nogueira isn't coming over for next season then the MLE would likely need to be split between a backup C (Okafor, Hill, Kaman) and a 3rd PG or backup SF. Ideally we'd move Novak to clear his salary and open up a roster spot for a backup C, backup SF, and 3rd PG.

What do you guys think is the max we match for Patterson? If Phoenix offers him say 8mil/year contract do you think we match?

Also why do people think it will take a full or close to full MLE offer for Vince Carter? The guy made 2.5 million last season and is 37 years old. There is no way any team should give him full MLE money at his age.
I also don't think he will be back with us. There aren't really enough minutes for him here if Vasquez is back. We will most likely look at a bigger SF as a backup. Someone like Aminu, Marvin Williams, Sefalosha. Guys who can play spot minutes based on matchups.
PG Lowry/Vasquez/*FA PG
SG Derozan/Williams
SF Ross/*FA SF/Capoclo/Fields
PF Johnson/Patterson/Hansbrough/Novak
C Valanciunas/Noguiera or FA C/Hayes
*probably one or the other, unless one of Novak, Hansbrough, Fields, or Hayes can be cleared to create a roster spot.

Don't think we need a 3rd PG. Just play WIlliams there if necessary. Not like Decolo played much, no use worrying about that position.

I think that is the bigger issue for these signings. We can work it under the tax this year. But how much can we get under the cap line next year

I think there will be a team out there who will sign Patman to a Channing Frye-like contract that averages out at 6.5-6.75/year. He's just about to enter his prime years and is one of a handful of non-superstar two-way stretch 4s in te league who have the athelticism, build and bball IQ to function as a glue guy for a whatever unit he's playing with.
5.5 would be a dream but I honestly think he will get an offer in that 6.5-6.75/year range and probably closer to the higher end of that in order to dissuade us. Some team will try to test us with him. I would still match that, btw, but I think he's one of the more underrated backup bigs in the game and feel his best years are ahead of him.

6.5-6.75 is fair value for him that I believe Masai expects he will get given his age and two-way talent. So, if that's fair market value then I think we probably let him go about 20% above that. In other words, 7.8 or above I think we have to let him go.
You can overpay 20-25% for a key piece who will play 36mpg for you and is essentially a foundation piece but once you start doing that on your bench you can get into cap hell quick.
I really like Patman so I'm hoping any offer he gets is below 7/year so that we match without much worry. I think you can move Patman pretty easily in any deal where he's being paid 6-6.75. The closer that gets to 7.5-8 the tougher that gets for teams. It's a luxury to have a great bench and it often comes one of two ways. You either have one because of mature prospects performing above their rookie scale contracts or you have vets taking discounts to play on a contender. Other than that it makes more sense to spend on, or leave room to trade for, starters good enough to start on good teams. And every slight overpayment on your bench can impact your ability to do that.

I still think you are a little high. You're getting close to starter money for a player most teams won't start. Orlando, for example, has contacted Patterson but it just drafted Aaron Gordon, and you have to believe will be starting him over any other power forward. With Patterson, we can also offer a fourth year and larger increases. And with his combination of age and good health, a fourth year would not be bad at all.

I think people have to accept that Noguiera IS the shot-blocking backup C Masai wanted to add. Masai likes developing young players and BeBe was the Defensive Player of the Year in one of the most respected leagues outside of the NBA. He's about as ready as Ibaka was to come over and play minutes. He wasn't in a throw-in to Masai. He was one of the targets.
He will be bought out.
He will be in training camp.
He will backup JV.
They don't want a vet taking mins from JV anyway.
