OT: What Is Wrong With Mark Jones From ESPN aka Paul Jones Brother?

The back story on Mark Jones is that he was tired of the amount of coverage that hockey got in Canada and wanted to move to the U.S. where he could cover his favourite sport : basketball. I didn't see a single person criticize Mark for moving to the US.

No one said anything negative about Adnan Virk or the Basketball Jones guys or any of the other Canadian sportcasters who moved down to the US to take jobs.

All the criticism is about Mark hating on Canada or being a douche bag.

and I explained why he might have those opinions.

People are a product of their environment. That's what makes everybody different. You can't paint everyone with the same brush just because they are the same colour/ ethnicity. I grew up in a small town with numerous "visible minorities" & I don't recall any of them making fun of their own culture to fit in. Not saying it doesn't happen, but......

The kid probably identifies himself more so with the local small town culture than his ethnic culture because that is the environment he or she was raised in. Like I said.....we're all a product of our environment. Nothing wrong with it.

But there are some. There are studies done on this phenomenon. The common explanation is that it is a way for a person from a marginalized community to try to feel accepted, by rejecting their own cultural identity, making fun of it, distancing themselves from it. This way, they want to be perceived as part of the mainstream.

I follow mark Jones closely and I remember last year in the playoffs. This guy is insecure as hell.

Mark simply is INSECURE about having a Canadian history and being a black guy in the US. He probably got ribbed about it in his 30s and became completely paranoid and conscious about it wherever he goes and with who he meets. I think it's sad for a 50 year old guy who acts like a teenager this way, it's really sad.


Check out this clip for instance, no wonder he's so messed up. He probably gets comments like these all the time. He married an American , got his papers and now waves the American flag like he's a part of it (he's not).

I know what he's saying - it's not that everyone from the same ethnicity should act the same way, it's more akin to 2nd/3rd generation kids feeling superior to recent immigrants.
