Fair. He's added one decent player and possibly 2 with 5 picks thus far. Until one is an integral part of the starting lineup though, I don't think there's any reason to be mad if the picks this year are dealt in a package for a young star IIke Cousins.

Yea I don't mind moving them all to cash in now, as the dream trade I posted to get both milsap and cousins above shows, including or future picks.

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=gr8ycqy

that would put 10 players on our roster. it's literally not even possible mid-season. there's a reason 3 for 1's or 4 for 2's never happen mid-season

I'm aware that it needs work, nobody is ever going to guess the exact way a trade that size works, but it is a blueprint at least for the assets required to do it. I'm sure sac and atl wouldn't hesitate to throw in their 15th man as a warm body if they actually wanted to make the trade.

Gonna be cheering hard for Phoenix tonight against Sacramento. Need Booker to go off and get that tank rolling again for the Kings. I know Cousins may be the least likely available of the 3 guys in the thread, but he's the one who if it worked out could help propel us to the NBA finals.

Not sure Orlando can stomach trading Oladipo for Ibaka only to trade Ibaka less than a year later.

Millsap seems like the best bet here...well, other than none. If the Hawks are bad, Millsap's expiring contract should be on the block.

Yes, but the Hawks didn't just trade a former #2 pick for Millsap. Ibaka is a new acquisition playing for a new coach. The Magic won't be quick to pull the plug on the team.

Also their lottery pick this year. No way they move him, they'll try to bring him back.

I really think it depends. In an expiring deal situation, the player has all the power. Yes Orlando gave up a former #2 pick in Oladipo to acquire him but Oladipo was also expiring and desperately needed to move either him or Fournier and they chose to move him. So essentially all they've done is kicked the can down the road as far as re-signing free agents go. Ibaka is in his prime now so I can't see him sticking around on a team that doesn't make the playoffs in a contract year. Orlando has definitely gotten better, no doubt about that but if they look to be out of the playoffs by the deadline, the smart thing to do would be to move him instead of risking that he walks for nothing.

Maybe we can come to some sort of deal where Denver sends Faried to Orlando, Orlando sends Ibaka to us and we send value to both teams. Ibaka would be a huge get for us.

Not that anyone cares about anything other than last night's fantastic win with a career night from JV, an explosion from DeMar and an excellent debut from Siakam but:

Orlando loses. 0-1
Sacramento wins. 0-1

Tonight's action:

Spurs @ Kings
Wizards @ Hawks

Millsap would fit like a glove here. Start the disappoint season for Atlanta tonight!

So, if I'm of the opinion that spending any of our asset cache on Cousins would doom us to mediocrity for years - do I use this thread to root for Sacramento throughout the season?

Totally agree. If you are landing Cousins everything is on the table. I think barring a big trade like Cousins, Norm, Delon, Paskal, Jakob will form our future core but sure looks like we are hoarding assets... drumroll please.

I think that's definitely part of Masai's strategy the past two drafts. Once he saw that our current core is probably here to stay, he stuck with "safe picks" to preserve whatever value he has with the few draft picks he'd have going forward. A draft pick is like a scratch card. Before you scratch it, it's worth $5. After you scratch it, it could be worth $100, or it could be worth nothing. Given what whoever we draft is not going to replace anyone in our current core, it's more important to retain future value.

Masai could have picked Skal or Davis with this year's 27th pick, but if they bust, then we'd lose the value of the pick forever. That's why he went with Siakam, someone who would, for sure, contribute something, as opposed to maybe contributing nothing.

The Bruno pick happened before we were considered contenders, so he was swinging for the fences with that one. But the year after that where we picked up Wright and Powell were clear indications of Masai's strategy.

The team can't afford any of them, and Lowry, unless they want to go DEEP into the tax next season. Or are we trading DeRozan to get one of them?

Why wouldn't they go deep into the tax if we're contending? Last years playoff run had 10 extra home games

Yup they'll definitely make their money back. Plus MLSE has said before that they're willing to go into the tax for a contender and getting either one of these guys makes us a contender.

Not to mention that just by retaining Lowry and Patterson and keeping the status quo makes us a tax team anyway without getting better. So if you're going to pay the tax anyway, might as well get better doing so

Hawks won last night. Howard with a huge rebounding game and Millsap with a great 1st game.
Kings lost at home to Spurs.

Average drafting? Give me a break.

Sorry has he started a star player yet or integral piece of the core? Did I miss it? Lol. Average means he's been fine, but none or his picks have been guys that the team would be devastated to lose.

As said if we are talking Cousins almost anything is on the table. The ages of our "average" picks are as follows: Poetl 21, Siakam 22, Norm 23, Bruno 21, Delon 24. That's five pretty young ballers to be making draft conclusions about. No? The bigger question is will Casey develop these players as a last year EC finalist? Defensively I love the potential of all our picks and a few will have some offence as well. If we are competitive with this many young players the future is very bright.

Early returns are 1. Norm 2. Siakam, 3. Poetl, 4. Delon and 5. Bruno. I'm not calling the election on 2 players who have played 2, count em 2, whole games. I am willing to bet Norm will net out at number two and either Jakob or Siakam becomes our best prospect. But I would admit my projection is equal guess to concluding we made average selections.
