Re: Don't be surprised if Masai Ujiri leaves the Raptors
There’s not a lot of attractive basketball jobs out there right now. Still think Masai has a ton of leverage and is just waiting for the chips to be down.

Didnt he say its "not a matter of not doing it" meaning he'll eventually get to it but there are other things to take care of first? At least that's how I interpreted it.

He really is, and I wouldn't mind at all if he did bigger things, consulting Bobby from time to time.

Re: Don't be surprised if Masai Ujiri leaves the Raptors
Masai once said:
"The narrative of not wanting to come to this city is gone. I think that's old and we should move past that. Believe in this city. Believe in yourselves."
If he is true to his word, then I would be surprised if Masai left, because his leaving would be contrary to that statement both literally and in the spirit in which it was said.

Re: Don't be surprised if Masai Ujiri leaves the Raptors
Raptors fans are the most pessimistic people ever. You would think a championship would change some of that.
Masai is going the Pat Riley way. He's going to be a career Raptor.. will retire when he's about to die. Riley has been with the Heat for 25 years now. Pops 24. Masai is going to want to be labeled the best executive ever.. has many years left to try and catch up to those guys. Good thing for him is that he's still young (only 50).

see how much they pay brendan shannahan, how much they paid mike babcock and BC at his time. it was in the higher end iirc.
im not too worried
I was just wondering that - what DO they pay Shanahan? They need to pay Masai more. But I worry if a private owner like the Wizards would give him a piece of ownership in the team, whereas a conglomerate like MLSE might not be willing to go there
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Re: Don't be surprised if Masai Ujiri leaves the Raptors
Hes not going anywhere. Will be here another 4 years at least.
Grange Or anyone doesnt k ow anything about the situation. Grange was saying mlse was dragging their feet trying to sign masai when that isnt the case.
Masai said hold off and got his staff going first like a true leader does. Then he will deal with his once thats done. Plus the pandamic and relocating to tampa put all this on hold. There was just too much work to do. He does still have another year. Would expect an extension by march once everything is somewhat on track with the season.
Note last part if this

ok but he can cash in one last big contract then go do whatever he wants when he's 55 years old.....why would he leave a $60m+ contract on the table when we all know he could use that money to make a huge impact on his Giants of Africa program

Yah their triangulating photo backgrounds lol. Hey man....they seem cool and I'm sure all us raps fans can relate. I wouldn't be salty if they caught a break. Non-elite team fanbases shouldnt fight amongst ourselves.
Nothing like a little rivalry between fanbases...
Yo this video from the bucks board has me rolling. I don't want to bug anyone over there during a frustrating time but they get props for this:
I'm trying to piece some of the more obscure ones together. Can't believe they had to petition to get their play by play guy fired after he cheered on a big shot by Kyle in the playoffs. "Kyle Lowry WOO from north Philly!" What the hell? Lol. They had some tough times.

That was painful to watch. It almost feels like it's meant to be that they lose disappointingly in the playoffs this season followed by Giannis signing with a big market team where he wins a championship.
Obviously I want him to sign with the Raptors but if he doesn't, for the sake of Bucks fans, I hope he stays there.

We should trade war stories with Bucks fans. I'd be interested to learn more about this video. We could definitely make a raptor one.

Yeah. Ours is very brutal too... except the part where Masai takes over and we win a championship.

Have been saying since we won the 'chip that Masai's next step is outside of the NBA. His ambitions are larger than just sports and he has the ability to realize many of those ambitions.
If he does stay in the NBA, I only see it in a position that places him as Commissioner-in-waiting. He's beyond running teams.

Re: Don't be surprised if Masai Ujiri leaves the Raptors
Masai's great but even he couldnt stop Kawhi - and DG - and Serge - and Gasol from leaving as UFAs. good lord, we won a Larry OB- whys this still happening lol?! i know theres context (theres always context) and he did manage to re-up Fvv and he has a master plan to land Giannis in July, but the optics for now are not great. players electing to chase titles... elsewhere. its not just Americans either.
that said, if he does leave, i wouldnt worry because we can always fill the void with Aaron Baynes and Alex Len. granted, maybe ive been reading too much TO media

Do you know what they got back for the kareem trade? Nothing would be sufficient but I wonder if they at least got some reasonable assets back.
My guess is they got alot of money. Like Gretzky to the kings.

The history of the league suggests that Masai will never be the commissioner or even considered for that position. Of the 5 commissioners that the NBA has had, 4 were lawyers/had a law degree and the one who wasn't was heavily involved in American politics. All of them come from prestigious universities: Yale, Notre Dame, Northeastern, Columbia, University of Chicago. Mark Tatum is most likely to succeed Adam Silver, he attended Cornell and graduated from Harvard Business School. Before working in sports Tatum was a marketing executive for companies like PepsiCo and Procter and Gamble, and he went on to work as an executive in the MLB before joining the NBA. He has played a big role in the globalization of basketball, and has negotiated television contracts with multiple networks.
I'm not saying it's impossible for Masai to attain that position but it is highly improbable.
