Will the ones who wanted Suggs come out of hiding or go back into hiding after this game?

FWIW, I remember Jordan Poole being in that spot like 2 years ago.

The only thing consistent about Suggs is him being an outlier in every one of these graphs

Barnes is going to block at least one Suggs 3 attempt this game.

lol i fully admit i wanted mobley or suggs over barnes, but to be fair i never knew that in the past 4 years hes never taken more than 13 shots in a game(until the boston game), and i didnt know that he has a completely different looking jumpshot than in college already, i feel like scouts were generally wrong about him too and they saw him on a regular basis one could assume. so regular fans could probably be excused for not being privvy to alot of stuff our front office was, all i heard and saw was a guy with a great attitude and defense and a questionable jumpshot lol, i thought it was more of a hail mary based off his physical attributes than it really is now that we can see him day in and day out.

We really dodged a bullet, wow. Can't believe how wrong everyone (myself included) were about him.

I said it before the draft, I watched so many of his college games and I couldn't get over how basic Suggs' handle was. No deception, no shake, no east/west, nothing. It's not the shooting which will probably come around, the defense is there, he can pass, but his lack of handle just limits how much he can contribute right now. When you play the same position as guys like Trae/Morant/Fox/Lamelo/Shai, IDK how excited you can get for a vanilla PG prospect without the flash of those guys.

Now watch him drop a triple double against us lol.

Barnes looked pretty awful in college. He couldn't hit a FT. His shot looked totally broken. It was a super small sample, but it was all we as fans had to go by.

This is where good scouting comes into play. Masai and Co. clearly saw that he could improve based on their time with him in workouts. To the rest of us, he just looked like a raw version of Draymond Green.

ye the "raw draymond green" comp scared the bejeezuz out of me given the potential of the top players of this class, tbh im not much of a draymond fan though, i feel hes a bigtime product of his environment. imo dude is lucky plays on a team with the talent of GS, allows him to do so much.

He primarily created his own looks off his first step straight line drives, which weren't anything fancy but seemed very effective when combined with his 'nba ready' body and opened up the rest of his kick out game. I thought he was probably 'rawer' than people seemed to think when it came to actual ball skills and shot creation, but that he was also more athletic than he was getting credit for and that first step would translate against NBA athletes. That's why you saw Wade comps from a few people

Haven't been watching the magic, but if he doesn't have NBA blowbyability then I guess in hindsight people can say the signs were all there

For me it was more about wanting a skill guy. I was pretty bummed that we were just a couple picks within reach of a skilled point guard like Cade (I basically watched all his games that year I was like a bandwagon OSU fan lol, gonna do the same with Duke this year because of Banchero and Griffin). I saw a lot of skill in Suggs, especially in highschool footage.

It was more about raw prospect vs a skilled prospect. Barnes is showing more now than he ever did in college or highschool. I was all in on rooting for him basically the next day after the draft and once I saw him in summer league the vision became clear.

Lets not act like any of us actually watched FSU games or were in any position to say he 'looked awful' beyond mockdrafts and youtube scout breakdowns. I might buy some fan in Indiana or the Carolinas being massive college hoops diehards who really follow the NCAA like its the pros, but most of us are in Canada

Time for us to all eat this L and admit we're having all these debates and takes on draft prospects based on some super casual level skim 'research'

given a few pro scouts are already backtracking on their projections for him, i have absolutely no problem saying that i was clearly clueless to what he actually was/is as a prospect lol

OT:

DO you think you think they'd have consider having all eligible players sent down for 905 game on December 4th vs Capital City?

You send down Dalano, Malachi, Johnson, Champagnie, Bonga?, and have the rest of the team sit court-side. Might draw a bigger crowd. The 905 players can get a boost of confidence.
Then the next night the Raptors play the Wizards.

This is the earliest opportunity i see on the schedule.

Return to Toronto Raptors
