Scottie has some nastiness in him, he might be smiling but he's there to kill, the smiling assassin.

I think there has been a shift since coming to the NBA. Same thing happened to Pascal, and I'm sure Pascal has mentored him on that front. You need to have an edge to be truly great in this league.

He's always had that dog in him since HS. Kid has always talked a ton of trash and pissed off opponents.

You think? Mobley WAS more impressive than SB for a good chunk of the year...

Plus we do have 2 previous ROYs (VC won it over PP and white chocolate and Damon won it over Jerry "next Jordan" Stackhouse)
we also have 3 COYs and 2 EOYs.

Quite the awards case compared to say the Memphis grizzlies (or similar, I don't keep up with them)

For sure. Scottie's been neck and neck with Mobley all year. The stats, win shares back that up. Doing more offensively and is pretty darn good defensively guarding 1-5 when that is mobley's biggest strength in his campaign. There wouldn't have been a narrative that it was Mobley or nothing.

Hopefully he can win it and voters open their eyes

Draymond: "Evan Mobley is my rookie of the year"

The pre determined push that Mobley received during the year may have been enough to sway the American Media to vote for him, it may be insurmountable for Scottie to leap ahead, pending he has some big games at the end to gain more publicity for his case to win it.

To me, both Barnes and Mobley should win co-ROY like Jason Kidd/Grant Hill, Elton Brand/Steve Francis and Petri/Cowens.

Cade should be solidly 3rd. Giddey and Franz should tie for 4th.

Even with all of the injuries, the Cavs are still a decent playoff team but without him they are a non-playoff team. Without Barnes, the Raptors may still be around the same spot in the standings.

Draymond watched 1 Cavs game which was the televised national game against the Raptors and came to that conclusion

The early 90s of the Joe Carter Jays, Gilmour Leafs were probably the closest thing this city ever had with all teams seriously competing. Of course the Raptors weren't around back then.

I know for a fact KO, Bill Simmons, Ryen Russillo and Thorpe will vote Barnes. I'm sure many more will do the same.

Barnes will be that guy in the future...then you got the second level of stars with Siakam, Marner, Bichette, way different from the dark days of Toronto sports from like 2002-2014.

What angle does Mobley have now for winning ROY? Barnes raw numbers are better, his advanced stats are even or better, he's finishing the season strong while Mobley's out, the Raptors have a better record than the Cavs, and it was clear his defensive impact was mostly due to playing with Allen. Even his offensive numbers are inflated playing with Garland, elite playmaker who can make a G-leaguer like Moses Brown look good.

It's crazy how the silly "generational defender, should be in the running for DPOY/all-star" narrative that was established early is so difficult to overcome despite Barnes' body of work and Mobley's decline before injury.

This is not to say Mobley's not going to be an amazing player, I was Mobley or bust going into the draft. But his hype got blown way out of proportion.

Cade has raw numbers on brutal efficiency, sucked for half the season and really only had one good month, shouldn't even be in the conversation unless you want to give Jalen Green a look too.

it reminds me when they were trying to push Dlo over Siakam for MIP when it was clear that Siakam was more deserving.....the media just needed something to talk about...I feel the same thing is happening here with Barnes.

I hope Scottie ascends to another level in the playoffs, that's where the real stars show up.

It would be cool but he's still a rookie. The playoffs are another level.
