How should the team move forward this season?

We also have a bunch of guys we can move at the deadline: GTJ, Boucher, Thad, Birch, Flynn, etc etc. Just blow it up completely.

I already am doubting their vision. Are they seriously hoping for another Kawhi situation where we get a disgruntled superstar for a bargain basement price?

If you're doubting their vision thats on you. They already proved themselves over the last decade with one of the highest winning percentages in the league, one of the teams with the most playoff wins, and also a championship.

Just because they aren't doing what you think they should do right now, it doesn't mean it's wrong.

Take advantage of the parity in the NBA to secure a high draft pick this year and bounce back next year. What's the point of making the playoffs and being first round fodder again? We've won a championship in the past, have higher aspirations.

I said wait and see because I find the poll options a little restrictive.

What does tank mean? Who do we trade? etc?

I can't see us getting a high high high pick without trading Siakam, I'm not sure I want to do that.

Sure, the definition of tanking can be different among posters. For me, it's just to put yourself in a position to secure a high draft pick (ex. top 10). Ideally we end up in the top 7 with a higher chance of moving into the top 4 but worst case fall down to still be within top 10.

Some posters are advocating for a full tear down, but I don't think it's necessary with this group. If we trade Gary and Fred, I think we'll be bad enough. It'll be hard to make up for that level of scoring/shooting provided what we get back are mostly prospects/filler/picks.

And I don't necessarily see 1 and 3 being that much different in terms of ^ explanation. We're currently losing as it is and may end up with a top 10 pick without doing anything.

If Trent is definitely going and has indicated he doesnt' want to resign, trade him.
If FVV is opting out, trade him.
If FVV is opting in, maybe you let him rebuild a bit of value? (if he can).

Siakam trade only if you get a monster offer. Same as OG.

Barnes is really the only 'untouchable'. though I never think anyone is untouchable.

Masai and Bobby will give these guys a chance to turn it around. That's been their motto. But I do hope a good opportunity arises that they can't turn down. The writing is on the wall, I don't want to watch Fred go 7-21 in the playoffs as we get our butts kicked. They are who they are.

if another team wanted to swap a really great young guard prospect who maybe a better fit, i wouldn't hesitate to do so for Barnes
i.e. Anthony Edwards etc

Even guys like Benedict, I maybe open to, but depends how this season ends for both guys.

They may have evaluated how much they want to tank, but still have yet to evaluate the as of yet unrealized trade proposals for OG and the such that will come in. I will enjoy it if OG is the sacrifice the tank demands of you, Del. I would enjoy that very much  :P   8-)

Masai is just scouting Victor now so he and Bobby can decide if it's worth it to plan out a multi-year strategy to try and lure him to Toronto once he's a UFA. He knows that the max 14% chance we'd have of drafting him with our pick pales in comparison to the >80% chance that we could make sure the capspace is available for him to walk here in free agency. Plus, by then we'll definitely know if he's a bust or not. What could possibly go wrong?

Every article says they are “evaluating” until at least February 1st. The FO doesn’t know which direction they want to go in yet.

There’s still a 7 game west coast trip coming up btw.

Wrote this in deadline thread.

I find it hard to believe team wouldnt move towards another stealth tank after deadline with a record of 26-30 and only 26 games remaining. It would have very different circumstances than same time last year as we were 7 games above .500

Jan 10 - Charlotte - W (18-23)

Jan 12 - Charlotte - W
Jan 14 - Atlanta - W
Jan 16 - @ NY - L
Jan 17 - @ Milwaukee - L
Jan 19 - @ Minnesota - L
Jan 21 - Boston - L
Jan 22 - NY - W
Jan 25 - @ Sacramento - L
Jan 27 - @ G.S. - L
Jan 28 - @ Portland - L
Jan 30 - @ Phoenix - L
Feb 1 - @ Utah - W
Feb 3 - @ Houston - W
Feb 5 - @ Memphis - L
Feb 8 - San Antonio - W

Feb 9 = Trade Deadline.

7-9 record as per above (24-32). But lets say we get 2 extra wins and go 9-7 instead, we would be (26-30).

To put things in perspective on Feb 9 of last year (deadline was Feb 10), our record was 30-23.
Wishful thinking, tang. Good luck tho.

I'm not overly concerned about what happens tonight, but we need to lose against ATL on the 14th and the Knicks on the 16th and 22nd. Those three games in particular are super important for the low key tank job.

And yet I was fully on board with the stealth tank in Tampa and would support another stealth tank this year if the team continues to struggle. What I was against was stripping the team of its assets which turned out to be the right thing as Pascal has emerged as an ALL-NBA player and OG has become an elite 3+D player.

I don't know how to vote in this poll because if the team continues to struggle, I'm in favor of another TB style tank, but I'm not in favor of a complete tear down of the roster. Deal the FA's, rest some guys, and come back next year with Siakam/OG/Barnes/lotto pick plus the assets you got back.

You do know what the word stealth means right. lol there is no such thing as a stealth tank, Everyone and their mom knew the Raptors were tanking in 2020. This current team just stinks, there is nothing stealthy about it.

Benching your players is not stealth
Trading FVV/GJT would not be stealth

I thought tanking doesn't work?
