A champion.

Innovative.

Other coaches around the league would look at how he schemed against certain teams and tried to emulate it. Thats as big a compliment as you can get.

Raptors Legend.

Relationship Ran its course though. And thats ok.

I appreciate him for he brought us the chip. Nothing more especially after what happened the past 2 years where he took out 1-2 years out of Fvv and pskills career as well as never improved the bench players he had. Signs of a one trick pony.

Duffman100 wrote:Best coach we've had by far. Appreciate him.

I have a feeling he'll be that type of coach that continues to have short, high levels of success with teams, wears out his welcome, rinse and repeat.

While this thread is for the positive Duffman100 is correct here. Nick Nurse has flaws even if he was very good with a fully complete team.

Great coach but we need a coach that can develop and instill confidence in our younger guys. I would guess we get a coach to develop some guys and then fire whoever we hire for another X's and O's guy for the next contention window.

3 pages long. We had a longer thread for Freddie Gillespie.

My only regret is that he got so much credit for the team's success when it was at its peak. I appreciate he is gone before the culture had gone completely to shite. On to the next.

thankfully it's a good bye. guys coaching almost cost the team the championship. it's doubtful any decent coach would've **** up 2019. Nurse was close to doing so on many occasions. he's overrated and I predict he'll get exposed on his next team like Nate Bjorkren was in Indiana if he doesn't develop decent people skills. he's too focused on his own brand and on being in the arts scene rather than on building a functional basketball team. **** outta here with your cop and detective shows. you're not bigger than the team.

i get the feeling nurse wanted to leave but it sucks that he's the fall guy for masai cobbling together an ill-fitting roster.

Mikistan wrote:Thanks for being better than casey

nurse had a .582 win % while casey's was .573. casey inherited a 22-win team while nurse inherited a 59-win team that got to add kawhi leonard.

nurse is better with the x's and o's but a big part of being an nba coach is managing personalities and things were generally harmonious under casey which wasn't the case with nurse.

i think nurse got screwed by masai's roster construction but it's pretty ungrateful to put casey down when he left the team in a much better position than when he took over.

I said it in the "fired" thread, I'd hoped he could be this team's Pop/Spoelstra. He certainly had the the X's and O's to be that. But relationships matter in the NBA. Maybe even more so than the technical expertise. He should have no problem landing on his feet.

I felt there was some sarcasm in Mikistan's post, illustrated by my "nice" response.

Turns out that Nurse and Casey had the exact same flaw that was their downfall. They both allowed the top two players to do whatever the heck they wanted on offense. I was mad at Casey for the constant unrewarded play by Jonas. Man would run the court, often being the last to start and first to arrive, get advantageous position and be ignored over and over and over and over. I was mad at Nurse for not holding Fred accountable. Fred can play the right way, but his selfishness gets in the way. A few long sits on the bench might have cured him of some of that.

Pop is obviously a teacher. He takes what he gets and makes it the best it can be. We thought Nurse was supposed to be a great teacher of shooting, but shotmaking has improved for whom?

We'll never forget the Giannis wall, the Curry box-and-1, the full-court press to comeback from 30, and the various star-destroyer defenses. Some other things I'll remember: NN merch, causing turnovers by squatting in the corner, Kawhi having 0 time for his D-League stories, celebrating his first challenge won, football set plays. A Raptors legend to be sure.

I shed a few tears for Nicholas.

Going to be a big loss for this franchise. The impact will be felt.

How can anyone diss this man for 2019? ("almost costing us the chip")

His ability to change tactics against both Milwaukee and GS turned the tide against the Bucks and then helped keep Curry from shooting our lights out. He was part of the "load management" that kept Kawhi healthy all season so he could be 100% in the playoffs. Others have already mentioned his other defensive contributions.

His "out-possession" the opposition tactics this year would have worked if we had better shooters, something he really didn't have control over (and yeah, the offensive strategy wasn't really there to take advantage of all of the extra possessions - I still think it could work much better, even with this core, with better ball movement).

But Nick got us the chip even when we were "supposed" to be hammered first by Milwaukee, then by GS. Can never forget him for that. Good luck!
