Re: Official Jamal Shead Thread
He’s an on ball PG who can’t shoot, finish or create alot of advantages.
I’m not really sold on him as the long term back up PG at all but he’s a good dude and great leader. Don’t set him up with the FVV comps, FVV was a much better defender and significantly better shooter coming out of College.

he will be a life long good back up that works like a dog if he doesn't improve his 3 pointer...his entire career as a small player will be determined by his 3...lowry and fvv shot it at 36-38 on high attempts and if shead can get there he can have a similar careeer

I don’t need to. Masai already called him out.
The whole era between winning the chip and him leaving was all about everyone looking out for themselves. Freddy is the poster boy for this era.
Believe in your city vs bet on yourself. You already know the deal. Some people see it for it was and honestly it’s fine, he’s human. Luckily for Fred that Kawhi shot dropped otherwise…

Didn’t FVV set up his deal to give us a chance to go after Giannis?

None of this is substantive. Or terribly accurate to why we had on-court issues...

I'm definitely on the side of Fred was selfish here after the chip, especially once Lowry left. He scoffed at the notion of playing off ball more, scoffed at relinquishing anything to youngn's. Had a quote along the lines of "what have they earned, or it's different than how we came up" something along those lines. Masai did call out them and for some reason Pascal got the brunt of the selfish title when it was Fred & OG who checked out early

Look at what Scottie has done since Fred left. Inefficient with much higher volume. It’s obvious that Scottie had no business being at the top of the pecking order. The team had it right with Pascal, Fred and OG getting the majority of the shots.
Fred’s usage has been lower in Houston because he’s been on a better team. That tells you it was a personnel issue here. We had a better chance of winning when the ball was in Fred or Pascal’s hands than Scottie’s. The fact we’ve gone out and acquired BI is another sign the team doesn’t want Scottie being a top option here.

It's not even debatable. As a former FVV fan he was absolutely selfish, worse than Rudy Gay. FVV along with that snake Nick Nurse led us to our darkest era in Raptor history after Kawhi left.
Those were some dark times man. Team was totally unwatchable which led to Masai blowing up on the team and totally dismantling it.

So selfish that he was 6th in voting for best teammate and then voted in by his peers to be president of the NBA players association. In addition, Ime Udoka chose this guy over Harden and Houston brought Fred back after two years to help them compete for a championship.

At the same time, he had his best and most efficient season without FVV so it’s not as clear as the picture you’re trying to paint.
FVV is currently shooting BELOW 39% from the field himself lol. He didn’t take a step back this year, he just wasn’t able to put the ball in the basket even more so than usual last year.
I think it was just a combination of everything not working out. FVV wasn’t good enough to be the 2nd option, Siakam wasn’t good enough to have an offence run through him, Scottie wasn’t good enough in his first 2 years to warrant a higher usage.
Anyways, this isn’t the thread for this, it’s a Jamal Shead thread after all.

Those same people who voted him 6th for best teammate also voted Haliburton as the most overrated player.Los_29 wrote:NinjaBro wrote:It's not even debatable. Right, throw those opinions in the trash so we can listen to people who have no idea what goes on behind the scenes or what happens day to day.

Give me 15-18 mins of frantic defensive energy, some turnovers, a charge or two and I can live with some bad shooting nights.

Oh come on....we can all see there is a big difference in FVV as an early Raptor, his last 2 seasons as a Raptor, and as a Rocket.
Hell he went on MEDIA BLITZES here saying he HAD to be a top 2 scoring option. Not wanted to be...HAD to be. And Nurse knew both he and Fred were likely leaving so allowed him to do whatever he wanted, regardless of how ugly that style of basketball was.
Nurse allowed selfish basketball to be played because he was already 1 foot out the door.
This last year even with gleaguers and 10 days playing, the STYLE of unselfish bball we played was way more entertaining and way more condusive to winning that what Nurse allowed.
I was a FVV fan. But he soiled that in how he ended his run as a Raptor. He got his money in Houston then went back to being a leader that didn't HAVE to take all the shots. That's what is most frustrating...is that Fred CAN be a great leader when his ego isn't in the way. That last year in Toronto, it was complete ego trip.
I thank him for his big part in the Championship but I am also glad he is no longer on the Raps...win or lose.

You only want to throw it in the trash because it goes against your narrative.
The fact executives and players think Fred is a great teammate says you’re wrong. How many bad teammates have ever been a candidate for this award? I can’t see any.

I honestly don't understand the vitriol. He was pretty good for us. He WELL overachieved his humble beginnings. He wasn't super special during the title run, but he was a consequential talent for us in the years after. Like, he was pretty much a maximal success story as far as where he started with us and how he developed and played, etc.
So the huge amounts of crap he takes are a little weird to me.
He was great from being undrafted and in the bench role was great. As a starter making the allstar team, he was overrated. The team now is playing a much better style without over dribbling. Everyone is engaged and hungry to attack.
Wait - we are better now than with Fred? Maybe go check record with and without Fred. (Do the same with Houston)
Damn, now you are pulling me into this debate again with the nonsense.
