if herb jones is available we should be all over him...jones with cmb and shead off the bench is a great defensive start to balance our starters flaws

The defence will carry the lineup. If it's a low scoring game, that favours us.
The spacing doesn't worry me at all.
This lineup is designed to get extra possession, and breakouts. The half court will be fine.
Absurd.
The half court offense would be terrible. You realize that for his career Thybulle averages less than 1 cut possession per game? Our spacing would be terrible.
As for Ingram “saving energy for offense”: do you actually watch the games? Do you think Ingram is currently over exerting himself on defense? He’s already half assing it right now.
We’ll have offensive rebounding opportunities because of all the shots we’ll miss but you also forgot to factor in: RW3 is not any better than Poeltl in that regard and Barnes is an average offensive rebounder for his position. Ingram is a terrible offensive rebounder for his size. Who is going to grab these offensive rebounds? We wouldn’t be any better at offensive rebounding than we are now and we’re currently 18th.
I’m sorry but many of the justifications you give as to why this lineup would work are not realistic given the theoretical lineups skillset.
Even if it result in a low offencive out put. The defence is main focus.
I get why people would want to gouge their eyes out on offence, but this lineup seems fascinating to me.
Also, I think all our good defender could learn something from Matisse Thybulle's style of defence because it's so different.
There is not a single team that has a bottom 10 offensive rating that is above .500. You can’t just throw out an inept offensive lineup and hope for the best. And your solution to the offensive issues (offensive rebounding) has been debunked because your lineup wouldn’t have the talent for it. It might be fascinating to you but it’s bad roster construction and doesn’t account for how you actually achieve success in todays NBA.

I think that's the problem, everyone's trying to fit into today's style of play.
I'm trying for something different. Maybe even futuristic.
This like 5-6 minute stretch, and then touch and go.
You can put true spacer in for Ingram, and test Scottie and Ja'Kobe's play making.
Again, it's the 4 man defense that fascinating to me.

I feel like theres probably a team who would give up a decent first plus for him. For Toronto the deal becomes difficult to make your giving up 4 of Temple, Mogbo, Gradey Dick, Walter and Ochai just to get the money to work. Then you need to get bodies back so your at 14 players on the roster. Then you can't trade for Jones until January 14th with him being recently signed to his upcoming extensiondballislife wrote:if herb jones is available we should be all over him...jones with cmb and shead off the bench is a great defensive start to balance our starters flaws

Sounds like Herb or Trey would cost a minimum of 2 firsts.
Wonder if the Spurs will chase after Trey? Could the deal expand into Zion as well?

Murphy and Jones would be two of the most coveted wings on the market. Both are regarded as elite role fits on winning teams and both are on long-term, team-friendly deals. Jones signed a three-year, $68 million extension in July. Murphy signed four years and $112 million in October.
...
Zion is a different story. Health concerns have crushed his trade value, with several teams privately labeling it “negative value.” He is signed through 2028, although his contract includes conditions that could void portions of it.
...
“The Pelicans are going to hold a high asking price,” Fischer said. “They will need multiple firsts to move on from either Murphy or Jones.”

I think the Spurs are more of a Giannis team than Trey. One of like 2 teams that can get him without gutting their team/has multiple avenues for acquisition.

In the previous version of this thread I must have said this at least 4 times. We should be all over Dumars to pry Jones.
Where I differ from your opinion (and Merit's a few pages back) is that Herb is a starter. This is a guy that has drawn public praise from Luke and LeBron in the past. He has only not started 9 games in his NBA career. If you exclude last season where he only played 20 games, he has garnered All-Defensive votes in every season since he entered the league, and been Top 20 in Steals in each of them also. He's only 1 season removed from being 1st All-Defensive. He's a nightmare on D and a 37% shooter from 3pt. Wherever he goes, it's going to be exactly like OG in that everyone is going to be like "wow, I didn't know Jones was a beast on D like this" because nobody watches the Pels.
All the teams reportedly interested in him would be inserting him into the starting lineup right away (Lakers, Warriors, 76ers). There is no way in hell he and his agent (who the Raptors have an excellent relationship with) are going to be okay with him going to Toronto to come off the bench. Besides, even with Dumars involved, we are not getting him for everyone's favorite (garbage) platter of some combo of Agbaji, Dick, Walter, Temple, etc lol. I'm not saying one of our starters would be going the other way, but something would happen that ultimately ends with Herb starting IMO.

If Trey can be had for 2 firsts that’s a no brainer but I think the price would be higher. He is a legit two way player. Something like Rj and 2 firsts I would be all over it.

Zion, if he gets his **** together, would look great beside Wemby. A front court of Wemby, Zion and TM3, with Fox and Castle in the backcourt would dominate the West. I would prefer Zion and TM3 over Giannis.

Give me Giannis over 30 game Zion and whoever any day.

Problem is, the Spurs would have to give up both young assets (Harper) plus a lot of picks to get Giannis. And Giannis is too dominant upfront for him to mesh well with Wemby. I feel like Zion would easily be taking the backseat to Wemby. Zion just adds an explosiveness that Wemby doesn’t have on O.
They could probably get both Zion and TM3 for Harper plus filler contracts, and save their picks to continue to build their team in the future. Under the new CBA, draft picks/rookie scale contracts are critical to team building.
Plus both Zion and TM3’s contracts are reasonable.

Giannis can be number 1 until Wemby is fully ready no need for back seat Zion for 30 games. Sorry spurs are the only other team I support since 2006 because of Manu and Timmy and I would hate to see them waste assets on Zion as much as I love tm3. I’m 99.8% sure Buford and Pop share my thoughts with regards to Zion at least.

If Giannis went to Houston in a deal where the Bucks got Sengun, but preferred picks from a third team..
A) Would Toronto want Sengun?
B) How many picks would they give?
C) What would be their preferred matching outgoing salary?

The biggest need on the Raptors is a guard that can break down a defense and explode past guys off the dribble.
Sengun isn't that good. I don't see him being too successful on other teams. He provides no rim protection as a C and he's too slow to be a PF

One potential trade target to get another scorer is Cam Thomas. He has a NTC, so he would need to waive it to come here. But, you probably get him for very little if he agrees. There's probably a 20-25 min role for him here. Ochai + 1 or 2 SRP's likely gets it done. I don't see him having much of a market and doubtful the Nets want to keep him long term. For us, it's likely more of a rental as well but it fills a need for cheap. He's an awful defender and not all that efficient but he can fill it up when he gets going and take a load off the starters, plus beggars can't be choosers.

Want zero part of the Anthony Davis, Morant, Trae Young, Zion Williamson and JJJ deals they are not worth the sheer amount of pieces it would take. Anthony Davis is good when healthy but he looks overweight and you can't count on him to play 75% of the season.
Toronto needs RJ back bad and a defensive rebounding backup C or PF, I wonder how far off either Monk or Ellis are to Toronto? I would have done a RJ for LaVine swap but the money is impossible to cover unless your doing Quick plus RJ for Monk and LaVine
