And this was on top of the extension he (among other FO members) got from Masai before he was let go:

Definitely murky. Need some clarity on this.

Well this is a direct quote from Pelley himself. So I think Grange might be right on this one or there’s a huge misunderstanding somewhere.

“There is no pressure regarding the trade deadline or his contract,” said Pelley. “And he is 100 per cent aware of that.

Grange is Roger’s mouthpiece assigned to the Raptors now. He’s a good little lap dog doing Pelley’s bidding.

This isn’t the Grange of the past who was frozen out by Masai. Folks need to update their priors.

With all the US based reports of pressure on Bobby to do a big trade or else, the raptors are probably getting lowballed in their trade discussions - I see this article as an attempt by the Raptors to change that narrative.

maybe he was never extended?

Or he's approaching the last year of his deal (26/27)

Just going to re-post my thoughts from another thread...

The 2020's is shaping up to be a lost decade for the Toronto Raptors - on par or worse than the 2000's

Bill SImmons has said that teams get a 10 years grace period from their fans after a championship. Maybe he's right. But this six year streak for the Raptors has been brutal and we are looking at nothing but mediocrity in sight going forward.

We somehow managed to go through this entire decade so far:

- being ass to mediocre depending on the year
- but still never having a top 3 pick
- with money to mediocre players clogging up the cap until 2030
- without the assets to trade or acquire a superstar
- without a top 15 player in the league

I know that Ted Rogers doesn't particularly think about the Raptors that much, which is fine, but someone needs to get into his bubble and let him know that Bobby Webster and the management team has to go or this is going to bleed into the next decade.

The Raptors have had only two top 3 picks in their entire history, Marcus Camby and Andrea Bargnani. If that's what gets you out of bed, it shouldn't.

I think if bobby can duck the tax AND raps make the playoffs and have at least a competitive round 1. His job will be safe, it will show progression and the team doesn't pay taxes.

Can’t believe I’m going to bat for Grange here, but imagine just accepting uncritically what American insiders have to say about the Raptors. We’re desperate, players don’t want to play here, we’re selling off our players, we want to trade for every player on the market. It’s obvious who benefits from those narratives.

Masai did a good job attacking narratives like that. Not saying Bobby needs to also, but we could practice a little more media skepticism in the meantime.

I have more confidence in Fischer's reporting. Grange has always been the after the fact guy that provides additional details. Toronto media has no sources inside the Raptors organization.

There are quotes from the President of MLSE in the article. Don't know how much better it could get when it comes to sources

The fire Bobby crowd is amusing. Where is the precedent for a first year GM improving a team record from 30 wins to 48 wins (current pace) and getting canned?

called out Sharpe as a good option a while ago so I'm glad to see grange mention him. Goga and Missi would be fine too

flat out denial on morant. question marks with AD. they want sabonis but there's no deal to be made.

so attach a pick to Ochai and see what you can get. if Missi is gettable then i think that's an intriguing option.

No writer for the Raptors has ever really had any sources in the organization.

There is none. Just conjecture. But they'll repeat it again and again as if it has legs lol

this isn't just based on grange's reporting. we know the kings have rebuffed their offer for sabonis

these are trade rumors not geopolitics. it's not hard to intuit what's going on. especially when salaries dictate who can be dealt.
