I wasn't absolutely sure up until Evies brother opened to his mother about Evies emotional state. Looking back at it, one of the biggest themes of this season was highlighted by Meg when she told Tommy, "Family is everything." You later see that at the very end of the episode when Kevin walks into his home to find everyone he ever cared about waiting for him. I do plan on rewatching S2 at some point but because the show is still fresh in my head, I think you're spot on. The easter eggs were there, I was just enjoying the show not looking too far in the future.

It's especially gratifying considering the flash backs you alluded to. Kevin was fixated with leaving and finding what's out there for him and the S2 finally mirrored the S1 finale in a lot of ways. You don't know what you have until you lose it.

And it's so true and applicable because HS literally felt like yesterday. You won't ever know you're in the moment until the moments passed and we see that happen time and time again in sports and with artistry. You have this brief window of opportunity and time goes fast man. Next thing you know you're on the porch regaling about days gone by.

I might be reaching but the opening scene of the season with the Cave woman also encapsulates what I believe the directors were trying to get across in the finale. Things happen. Human is nature to survive and keep keeping on. It's what happened when that other woman picked up the baby and it's what happened in this season with Lily and Nora.

Question. What did Virgil do? I can't tell if John was being honest when he was adamant that nothing happened to him.

International assassin had everything and it was quite daring. Lots of shows have tried producing that episode and it's fallen flat. It had great writing, suspense, mystery, and tons of emotion. Do you think there was a bit of symbolism with Kevin first saving Pattie and then killing her twice. There was so much layers to this episode I def. need to rewatch it again.

It really reminded me of 'Join the club' in S6 of the Sopranos. I still have a lot of questions about Kevins dad, hopefully they're answered in S3. He seems to be able to shift from world to world without physically dying. The entire episode was exactly like an opera looking back at it.

I need to become one of those people that finds fitting music scenes for TV shows.

Spoiler:
The introduction of season 2 with the cave collapse in pre-historic times is a parallel to the departure itself. In the International Assassin episode, Patti mentions and references to a cave and what the meaning of family to her was. I did not interpret the show the same way - in that you never knew how good it was untill it's gone. However that doesn't make you or I wrong, what I love about TL is it's a complex show that is open ended and up for discussion. I describe The Leftovers to friends in that it is a character driven show dealing with complex emotions of grief, acceptance, loss, and more importantly self destructive behavior. Kevin is a prime example of this all the way untill the end of season 3, and he reminds people that sometimes we do stuff because sub consciously we don't believe we deserve what we have; we are frauds. One of the most powerful moments of the show was season 3 back in the hotel and he is reading the manuscript to himself (his subconscious) about the drive to sail away from Nora and anyone else he loved - the alternative of facing her was worse.

I believe Virgil was abusive to John, probably to the extent that it was implied. It explains John's mistrust in others and how he spearheaded the fraud division among firefighters. Give International Assassin a rewatch for sure, it gets better on repeat viewings. Guess there's not much to say about his dad as he was covered in season 3, will reply to your other post now.

He was trying to get a job. Hope he didn't take on anything dubious...like an internship with Ontario nutrition.

Ontario Nutrition is a great way to start your career, we try to get you not to conform to dubious modern day concepts such as ‘work/life balance’ and ‘living wages’. Rather sacrifice and hard work should be rewarded by working in a cultivating environment that enriches you from within.

The Leftovers 9/10 and a top 5 show of all time for me.

One of the most gratifying ends to a TV show since Rectified and 6 feet under. The last 10-15 mins was a fitting microcosm of this show bringing the actors and viewers right back to the beginning.

Do you have faith? Can the truth be objectively true? Does it really matter in the end? Is it not the process that matters? We're all struggling to live in a world without answers but lots of us create our own.

Is it about explaining away the miracles, freak occurrences, and day to day convos we endure or focusing on how these things affect us? Is it our struggles that give meanings to our lives? All we have is a hope. In a world where love and grace can help us keep our heads high in the face of terrorist attacks, economic downturns, and more uncertainty.

Where do we go from here man?

Spoiler:
I loved the ending of the show because after this wonderful monologue given by Carrie Coon (Nora) on her side of things, the viewer just as much as Kevin is asked the question of whether you believe her. They didn't cave in to fan pressure and explain the departure and instead ended the story on their own terms. Nora and Kevin, two broken people that kept trying to 'blow their life up' finally get together in the end.

I'm not feeling very articulate today on explaining more in depth stuff, but I enjoyed reading your thoughts on the show.

Minor thoughts on specific episodes:

The introduction for season 3 episode 1 was actually based on a real historical movement known as the Great Disappointment.
End of episode 1 (was watching week to week live of course) had me perplexed with the pigeons and the old Nora look alike. Also that song used was incredible:

Episode 2 - Fun fact if you weren't aware Mark Linn-Baker who ends up calling Nora was actually in the hit show from the 80's Perfect Strangers and the introduction song for that episode was the same theme song from the show. (He was also featured in season 1 briefly as a person who faked being a departure) Another cool easter egg, the writing/directing credits are from the Wu-Tang Clan name generator.

Episode 3 - Holy **** that exchange at the end of the episode between Garvey Sr. and Grace had me in tears.

Episode 4 - Another terrific episode leading to the final confrontation between Nora and Kevin in the hotel room with the sprinklers going on. Love the french horn cover of Aha's Take On me. Also what is your answer to the question:

Two infant twins are born. One of them will grow up to cure cancer, but only if one of them dies now. You don't have to kill the baby yourself, but you do have to nod to make it happen. Do you nod?

Episode 6 - This is one of my favourite episodes in the whole show. From the opening scene of Laurie attempting to kill herself to Gravediggas '1-800 Suicide'. The sendoff Laurie gives Nora and Matt and the beautiful 'bravest girl in the world' speech to the 'why did he have to pop the ball?'
The last couple minutes when you have scuba diving on your mind and you see Laurie on a boat

Episode 7 - International Assassin II what more can I say. Too many great things to list, that manuscript reading was so powerful as I see a lot of myself in Kevin - choosing to sail away instead of facing your problems. The use of Beach Boys when he cuts open the other Kevin to get the key, gdamn. Just a fantastic episode I was fist pumping in the air as soon as I knew it was another hotel/universe episode.

We're all struggling to live in a world without answers but lots of us create our own.

Great quote that sums up a lot of the show and how it relates to our own lives.

I'd rather fanboy a 4 time all-star who's been our best player every season for the last 5 years than a dude that has played sort of well for 75 games
