I know a local distillery is switching over to make sanitizer, but it is mainly going out to health care workers. Maybe check online near you

People returning from travel and coming back without self isolating isn't helping either. Long story short people really aren't taking this seriously and most likely wont until they experience full Italy.

...or until the government forces them to.

That's what is happening here in California, and from all indications, it is working and people are staying at home.

Sorry they didn't lock down everything, but anywhere were they suspected a threat, also quarantined 29,000 people and have tested a tremendous amount of people. They also enforced a law to track peoples GPS from phones, credit cards, etc - something that over here infringes on people's rights. I don't have a problem with that but I'm sure some people do

One of the worst thing you can do is touch your face. It's the reason even in a clinical setting a superior N95 masks performs basically the same as a surgical mask despite it being superior in lab testing, because people do not put it on correctly, touch their face more, adjust them, and do not take them off properly.

For people that are healthy it is just as likely, if not more so, to have a negative effect. It is for people that are suspected to be sick and have shown symptoms and for health care workers in case they have it and do not spread it people that are compromised ( or anyone helping those people, ie droping off supplies).

If you are healthy and wearing a mask without goggles you are not really protecting yourself anyways (without touching your face), just preventing the spread if you were unknowingly sick which the vast majority are not, and if you are more than likely not sick and it's likely worse for a healthy person to wear one that also helps increase the spread. There might be a point where that changes, ie more people suspected to be sick, but not right now. Especially with them in short supply.

This is the last post I'm going to post here about masks because it is clear people want to believe what they want to believe

It is because you claimed people don't know how to use a mask correctly, and how superior that it needs a goggle, but when you look at the health care team and what they claim, those are contradicting.

Doctors are rather reusing mask with no goggle, you think they are dumb? Lack the knowledge? If mask is that useless, why they complain about lack of it?

They primarily wear masks to protect patients, not themselves. I'm not sure how many more times I need to say that.

And they are trained in how to use the mask and some of them still don't wear them properly, I already posted about the study. You think the general public would do better? They are lining up in big groups for a damn video game, they can't even stay at home ffs

I am literally reiterating what the CDC, WHO, NHS, and medical studies suggest, yet you think you know better

And people are trained to wash their hands? Most people wash their hands wrong, and we should just skip washing hands? Saying it is to protect patients is contradicting yourself. If they are sick, they should not work. Clearly they are not sick, and they complain it because doctors know how important it is for them to reduce risk of getting the virus.

Sorry to say, many people don't trust CDC, WHO. Look at how late WHO declares this issue.

People wash their hands all the time and some still do it wrong. So why would a mask that people aren't used to magically start following all the precautions you need to take with them, because if you don't use it correctly it is more dangerous to have one on (if healthy), that isn't the same case as not washing your hands properly.

you contradict yourself, if people are not washing their hands properly, they should not be touching their face, which includes putting on, adjusting, and taking off a mask.

And how the hell am I contradicting myself by saying it is to protect the patients? You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Sick patients should wear masks, HCW are around those sick people so they are at a high risk of passing something on, so they need to cover up to prevent them from giving it to someone else. It's about preventing passing it on, not preventing from getting.

You think those organizations are untrustworthy but you trust Asian ones? They wear more masks there so we should here? vaccination rates are much higher here than there, so what vaccinations are bad? Why do these masks not help at all with China's influenza rate? Chinese government was silencing doctors at the start of the outbreak, real trust worthy

There is a difference in WHO being unprepared vs down right lying to people. But really one was prepared

If you could get your hands on some 99.9% rubbing alcohol, you can make your own by mixing rubbing alcohol with Glycerin (can be bought at shoppers), at a 70-30 alcohol/glycerin ratio.

Also Aloe Vera can be used at a similar ratio too.

Doctors wear masks because they are not in a position to practice social distancing. Anyone who is practicing proper social distancing and hygiene practices will not gain much, if any, protection from the virus.

Also, the WHO was not late in anything. Their declaration of a global pandemic was based on certain specific criteria that apply to that designation. But they were issuing warnings well before that declaration.

Had to go back yesterday, wasnt too bad at all. TP for some reason still gone but there was food everywhere. Milk, eggs, bread, cheese, water, all of it. I live in Milton. Have not even had to venture to Walmart.

I think (imo) the initial panic buying (except for TP somehow) is done (here anyways, maybe I just got lucky yesterday) and people are just buying what they need + a little extra.

We manufacture a lot of toilet paper in Canada. IIRC one of the biggest manufacturers in the entire country is in Mississauga.

PPE on the other hand...

The majority of the masks are being bought up by China and are sitting in storehouses. It's practically impossible for North American manufacturers to make a sufficient amount since even the material is being bought up.
I saw a YouTube video from south korea on how you can make a mask with every day household items. Ive been working from home since the NBA was suspended and have only left to get groceries during my lunch so im ok....but worst case I will make an improv mask which isnt the same or as good as a medical one obv but it will help.

If all else fails, you could even put a t-shirt over your face. It's not close to what an N95 can block, but it can block up to 50% of airborne CoVid-19-size particles

It can also increase your risk of hand to face transmission, especially if you are not vigilant with cleaning your hands while putting it on, adjusting and taking it off. It also will not really do much as far as preventing you from getting it via airborne transmission without eye protection, more so from passing it on.

In clinical tests, a loose fitting surgical mask protected HCW just as much as a N95. People see the % something blocks, but that is not real world scenarios and they do not account for contaminated masks or the increase of hands to face contact which is the worst thing you could be doing.

Please be safe and make sure everything is clean before putting anything near your face

You just gotta assume that a large portion of the population either doesn't care about spreading the virus or is ignorant about it. Sometimes you have to protect the people from themselves, ALL beaches should be closed.

All restaurants closed, delivery and take out only. Feels like our cases should be declining not rising.

According to Chinese analysis two weeks quarantine is not enough for a person who is carrying a virus.
At least 50 days because the virus mutates twice or more.

I'd prefer if they just put limits on everything. Some people are clearly buying out larger quantities than they should be.

The grocery store I went to had a limit of 1 pack of toilet paper per customer. Of course the entire row of shelves were still empty.

Toilet paper is less important than the food you need in order to use the toilet paper. I'm talking about limits on canned goods, rice, beans, flour, bread, pasta, etc.

You have to come early in the morning because that is the time they restock the toilet paper from the shelves with limit 1 or 2 per person but then at 10 am they all gone.

Yes the WHO did a bad job and yes the WHO is infiltrated by Chinese-loyal people who are willing to fudge the data for them...

The flip side of that is that no country ever needed the WHO to go ahead and tackle it on their own. The WHO doesn't decide any country's policies for them.

FFS, if you're out of toilet paper, use a hand towel or face towel then launder it. Covid19 recycling.
