Re: Official Toronto Raptors Offseason Thread *UPDATES*
We are going to struggle to shoot 3’s this year. Possibly even to score points.
A lot depends on whether Siakam plays like an allstar or G league scrub.

Raptors were 5th in shooting percentage last season: 37.4%, or 995 of 2663.
Even if you exclude Ibaka and Gasol, they would still be 5th: 37.2%, or 868 of 2333.
I can't see three-point shooting being a problem.

Half-court offense was a major issue last season, and I anticipate that it will still be a major issue this season. Siakam and VanVleet, the core players of future Raptors teams, are just not very good scorers:
- Siakam is not a pull-up shooting threat (31.0%, or 45 of 145, on pull-up twos; 34.0%, or 51 of 150, on pull-up threes), doesn't quite have the ball-handling to break down defenders off the bounce, and has a limited arsenal of post-up and face-up moves.
- VanVleet is also not a pull-up shooting threat (28.8%, or 21 of 73, on pull-up twos; 32.7%, or 53 of 162, on pull-up threes), is an extremely poor finisher around the rim (48.5%, or 142 of 293, on FGA from less than 5 feet), and is an average to below-average isolation and pick-and-roll scorer (41st percentile in isolation, 51st percentile as PnR ball handler).

Nonetheless Siakam looks leaaaaan and ready for the new season. Can't wait for P-Spice Season 5. He's gonna shut up a lot of people this year.

if we are going to keep this roster then can Kyle accept the 6th man??? and aim for that the 6th man award.
FVV
Norman
OG
Siakiam
C ==> Baynes/Len/Boucher
it is time to have Norman as the Full-time SG (and though it worked last year just fine, I am not looking forward to seeing my starting backcourt at below 6'2 again)

I wouldn't even be mad if we miss out on Giannis, to me Beal is much better fit to go along with our core. But for sure we need a guy who can create something out of nothing.

The backcourt being 6'2 and under wasnt really a problem last season. Secondly, why would Lowry come off the bench when he's a better player?ash_k wrote:if we are going to keep this roster then can Kyle accept the 6th man??? and aim for that the 6th man award.

Here's some on-off (per 100 possessions) numbers for the Raptors postseason that I gathered from pbpstats.com:
Entire 2020 postseason
2020 postseason: vs. Nets
2020 postseason: vs. Celtics
Some obvious observations:
- Lowry and Ibaka were the only two players in the rotation who had a positive on-off rating in both series. Lowry, Ibaka, and Powell were the only players who had a positive on-off rating for the entire postseason.
- Siakam somehow had a positive on-off rating in the Celtics series.
- The Raptors outscored the Celtics whenever VanVleet was off the floor. This was not the case for any other player in the rotation.
- Powell's on-off numbers between the Nets and Celtics series are night and day. Amazing against the Nets, and putrid against the Celtics.

Thank you for this. Ibaka got too much disrespect. We will definitely miss him!

It wasn't a problem because Hayward was injuried

These numbers show you exactly why not having Ibaka will be a huge problem for this team.

Re: Official Toronto Raptors Offseason Thread *UPDATES*
There you have it, Lowry still the best player eye test and numbers confirm it.
Fvv ideally needs to be 6th man while playing more minutes. I can't deal with having to go through another season with a small backcourt it was frustrating watching us get out rebounded. I'm hoping our new big men can rebound better. Although Gasol wasn't great at actually grabbing the boards, he was good at boxing out but suxks our other guys aside from Lowry weren't made for it.

Yep. Huge loss.
Shows how badly Nurse mismanaged gasol and ibaka... we repeat finals with Gasol on bench and Ibaka starting.... big drop off this year with the scrub centre's signed
