Siakam has his age (turns 30 next month) and possible decline, people here want to extend him in the offseason regardless. The back end risk in the 4th or 5th years especially are often ignored. No team wants an empty calorie scorer being paid $50M at that point.

If he is resigned the key is to not wait to trade him. As soon as he is eligible for trade...pull the trigger.

If they include the 5th year on the extension, that could hurt his value. For other teams, if its a 4 year deal then its a wash.

Keep him. He'll still be very good from 30-33. And very tradeable (likely more valuable with a contract than without). And with this new mix and the raps looking much better now his value will only go up as the team plays better.

No suggested package sounds remotely interesting.

Didn't Shams say Sacramento pulled out? Now he's saying Toronto did. We don't know how many picks were attached to Barnes, so I wouldn't get too annoyed.

yeah I was wrong. This was Sacramento leaking this nonsense. Not sure who they think they are dealing with. They wanted the hype and had to retract quickly once Toronto laughed. Morons.

Sacramento leaking all this stuff - Murray off the table, Barnes the centerpiece, unwilling to pay Siakam the max - makes me think that Sacramento really wants Siakam!

I listened to the full clip, so Shams is basically saying Sacramento rushed Masai with a take it or leave it "package" offer prior to the game. Sounds like Masai tried to negotiate from there and Sacramento "pulled out." Shams is also contending that Sacramento says this is fluid, and Toronto can come back to the table. So, basically Masai turned down a lowball and correctly called Sacramento's bluff. If there's enough picks attached than I don't hate it.

Sacramento can't even trade immediate picks. I believe the earliest 1st they can trade is 2026 because they owe their pick this year to ATL.

Based on this I would interpret the leaks as from Sacramento. They tried to rush Masai, maybe because they were playing them that night?, and then pulled out. Now leaking this.

Sounds like they want Siakam but don't want to give anything up for him. They've regretted the Barnes signing almost immediately and are stuck on him for another 2 seasons.

Also, they don't want to give him a max so why would he want to resign?

This is bush league stuff trying to sabotage Siakam trade value.

That L against them pisses me off more now. Basically f'D around with our team and now trying to say Keegan was very even on the table to begin with.

Then it looks like the Kings could come back and crack with Murray..'cause a Fox- Monk-Barnes-Pascal-Sabonis to close out games looks formidable.

But if after all the discussion around the real implications of paying Siakam the 5 year max have been explained, plus the real life examples of other players who were paid and how that handicapped their team is not enough for people to see it, it really doesn't make any sense to continue to go back and forth about it.

There's been LIllard. There's been Beal. There's been Harris. There's been Lavine.

So if people haven't seen it yet, they aren't going to start seeing it now.

Portland, and Washington both ended up getting significant assets in return for Lillard and Beal - talent ends up trumping everything else in the long run. Trying to figure out exactly how those two teams ended up "handicapped".

Harris just is not that good. He is massively overpaid for being an average starting caliber player. He is not where near Siakam.

A healthy Lavine is probably a good contract to. Not really a good example when he has the talent he just cant stay on the floor.

Just on Harris he's gotten to play off elite players his whole time in Philly and his impact metrics are on the same level as RJ this year at least by EPM. Siakam is just a different level player.

Tell the Kings to come with a real offer or STFU and stop crying to Shams cause nobody wants their distant picks + Huerter/Barnes/Davion package. Like the leaks are obviously from them. It's pretty clear offer Keegan or there's no deal because you don't have any good assets.

Also leaking the package with this specific wording (Barnes for Siakam) only serves to artificially lower Siakams trade value. Shams kinda a hack for not leaking the real offer at least (Barnes/Mitchell/Huerter + picks).

Yeah, I'm not sure why they've hung around as long as they have.

Kings: Hey, we want Siakam
Raps: No problem! Send over Murray and we got a deal
Kings: We don't want to move Murray
Raps: Well then I can't help you. Have a wonderful day

Should have taken less than a minute to sort this.
