He can definitely shoot. I think adhering to Moreyball limited his efficiency at Baylor.

There is no question he dropped. For anyone who ever spoke of BPA, this was the pick and he does have pedigree.

With regards to no workout, he wasn’t expected to fall to 19 so can’t really fault his agent for not getting him a passport and all that hassle. But Raptors scouted him since high school, raptor employee spent a week at Baylor this year, Bobby visited at Baylor, they interviewed at combine. I’m not too hung up on no workout because he was never supposed to reach 19.

With regards to finishing and playing through contact, I’m not sure people recognize how physical the college game is, especially Big 12. Smaller court, less spacing. His game should translate to pros. Get him on the Dick mid season training plan now!

His 3pt percentage was low. However his shot is tight and compact. He hits 80% ft (except when it mattered most lol) so I have no doubt he’ll be a better shooter in NBA. For perspective Maxey shot 29% from 3 at Kentucky. Ja’Kobe stroke and mechanics are there. All about reps now.

With all that said, I’m still a bit underwhelmed in the draft and the pick. It really was/is a ho hum draft but they got a good prospect relatively speaking, I just can’t get hyped for it.

My biggest concern is the 42% 2pt fg. I like to see college players flirting with 50 or above.

I was so mad that Carrington rose so much that he was drafted at #14. I had faith in him while he was still mocked mid 2nd round. :(

I was all excited for Walter in the fall and winter before he started slumping. I recall that he did look like a 5-10 draft pick and at least as good a prospect as Keyonte George.

This feels like the Terrence Ross pick. Though Walter has better defensive potential with his large wingspan.

Agreed. I literally said Powell type impact is the ceiling for him when talking about him last night. If he becomes that (or even 75% of that) it's a big win at 19.

He's only 19. I think his shooting is only going to get better.

I agree with the people who are saying there's a lot of similarities to Norman Powell

And he looks smarter and has a fire in him. Ross was dumb and was felt lazy.

This is what I said about Walter, among some other prospects I was tracking back in January before his 2nd half production dip (but apparently he was dealing with knee stuff ??): https://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=2333593&p=110829460&hilit=walter#p110829460

Before the 2nd half dip, this guy was performing like one of, if not the most obvious "Masai-type FRP" in this draft.
My Masai/Bobby-type FRP Barttorvik queries: 4/4, zero misses

Ross was pretty notoriously allergic to the paint. They're nothing alike.

3&D player. But honestly if you can get a KCP type at 19, you're laughing to the bank. I think Trent is definitely gone. Gradey starts, this kid is the back up wing. Raptors won't be winning many games anyways.

Yup. 1.4 FTs per game for his career. At his peak was 3.

Walter got to the line 5.2 per game. Ross was 1.8 per game in college.

He looks like a poor man's Kyrie Irving. Worse handles, worse shooting %'s but finishes with contact very well and with his long wingspan converted some alley-oops!!!

Impressive he's up there, at 19, with 23 year old Knecht.

Masai may have made a few mistakes the last few years, but his eye on draft talent is usually pretty good.

I didn't follow him or Baylor during the NCAA season, but watching film it looks as though he took a lot of tough, off balance shots. Maybe that's the reason his % is lower than ideal & maybe the Raps can clean up that part of his game.

As a rookie, he won't have to feel pressure to be one of the top scorers so that will allow him to stick to better "open" catch and shoot 3's.

So far, I like how quick he gets to his spots coming off screens & how quick he gets his shot off. He seems to be more capable than Gradey in that regard..

You try and drive to the hoop with a 3 foot wingspan!

When you have a 300 foot vertical, it should be a bit better than that. Ross was allergic to contact.

See there's his problem, he never tried to space jam that **** from the other end of the court. What a waste of talent. :noway:

Thin frame, malik monk type. I don't expect much on defense

Watching some highlights, he's very shifty and creates fouls off jump shots in the midrange and from 3. Doesn't even need to get to the basket to create FT opportunities.
