A lot of reactionary people here. Good for Pascal, he landed in the perfect situation and delivered for them. As for the people asking for Masai's head, a lot of you seem to forget, we tried to put the team in Pascal's hands and it wasn't working. Pascal is not a number one, he needs ton of shooters and help around him to be efficient as we saw it during the championship year and now in Indy. The Pacers are deep and actually have centers that can shoot which Pascal needs to be effective.

For the others losing their minds at Masai for calling out Pascal back then, I don't know how you can react like that. None of you were in that locker room and none of you knew what was really going on. The mix of Pascal and Fred as leaders wasn't good for the team and wasn't working. He had to pay all of them eventually or build around Scottie. I wished he kept OG but hey it is what it is and let's cheer for the new era of the Raptors and move on. I'm happy that Pascal, OG and Fred all landed in great situations for them but the truth is when they were together it wasn't working.

Pascal is the first scoring option but the defenses are built to stop Hali, and they have a great roster around their two stars.

The problem we had here is that we had Siakam as the main gameplan for defenses we faced, and he did just as well as he's done in this playoffs, which is good. We just didn't have a guy like Hali to pair him with

What part of that is Pascal Siakam's fault? Tyrese Haliburton was the 12th pick of the 2020 Draft. If we're giving everyone away to build around the 4th pick of the 2021 Draft, shouldn't he be capable of being that guy too?

The reality is the Raptors handed Scottie Barnes the franchise before he demonstrated any ability to be *that* guy even in a regular season setting despite Pascal Siakam demonstrating he could be that guy to get a team to a minimum of the first round of the playoffs.

What has Scottie Barnes done to demonstrate he deserves to lead a franchise? Next year is a big year for him. He doesn't have to be the number one scoring option, he doesn't have to shoot, and he doesn't have to be the lead ball handler. If this team isn't a success, will they just get rid of all of the other players again because he's going to be the face of the league?

Siakam started to work on his 3 a lot when he started off the year historically bad. Started improving after the OG trade and we actually looked ok with IQ/RJ/Scottie/Siakam/Poeltl (3-1 with a close loss) and then the injury bug hit.

If Masai didn’t burn bridges and was willing to pay Siakam, the right move might have been to trade Scottie for some depth, since Scottie’s more natural position is PF and he’s not a good shooter. Given his improvement that season, it would have caused an uproar, but we could have gotten a lot more in return and essentially retooled the team in one season.

While I agree that one of the reason things failed here is that we got bunch of guys that were number two's and three's and nobody could step up to be a number one, including Siakam, we have to remember Masai Ujiri is the one who failed to recognize this very fact and put us in that position in the first place. He also failed to surround that core with any kind of decent depth, which is why the team failed in short order instead of sustaining some kind of success similar to Lowry/DeRozan years. He is also the one that dragged his feet and waited until it was too late to clean house even when it was clear things weren't going to work out, severely limiting the return we could get for Siakam.

So while you are right that the reason Siakam has done well is because he's in the role that fits him the best as a second guy, for us, this is all on Masai Ujiri so it's very logical that some people wouldn't mind him gone. He has one more season to prove himself but if this team fails to perform for whatever reason (because Ingram's injury risk is well documented by now), he should be the one to go.

There's plenty of blame to go around but I can't blame Masai for giving them a chance to figure it out. The Scottie-Fred-OG--Pascal core and then Poetl should have been good enough to be a playoff team but they couldn't figure it out and that's on them. It wasn't a secret the atmosphere was toxic and Masai took a direction. Masai wouldn't have called them out if it wasn't a big issue and the team culture was taking a big hit during that time. Like I've said I only would have kept OG but it didn't happen, I've moved on and I'm not bitter about it. I'm still happy that Masai is in charge and I'm even happier for Pascal who ate a lot of crap throughout the years when outsiders said he had no bag. Good for him.

Not following your logic. You admit Pascal was in the wrong role as the #1 here and he needs a ton of shooters which we didn't get and the Pacers were deep which we weren't. Masai's job is getting the right players & making sure the team fits together, but you can't blame Masai?

Everything you say is on Masai but instead you blame the players. Poeltl is who he is, the book on him is well written. That we weren't a playoff team is not on Poeltl or other players as long as they tried their best (which they did). It's on the guy assessed the talent who brought in the players in the first place, the guy who put together that team. The truth is the team has been a mess for 5 years and the buck stops at Masai.

I never said it's Siakams fault, he played well while he was here. If you look at the 2022 playoffs his stats are similar to this run, he's consistent and reliable, and a positive defender.

FO couldn't put a good squad together around him and Scottie. I suppose the max contract status was also a factor in the FO dealing him or risk losing him for nothing like we did with FVV. They shouldn't have traded for Poeltl, Turner works well with Siakam cause he's a stretch big who's also, big.

All props to Siakam, he's proven before he can be a secondary player on a championship team.

Alright let me try to clarify, although it didn't work out in Toronto I thought they were good enough to be a playoff team. Of course things weren't perfect for Pascal but it was still a talented core. Masai gave the core a chance to work it out and I ain't mad at that. And no I don't think it's on Masai, I played sports for a long time and blaming others ain't my thing. You can only control what you can control and these guys were given a chance to make it work and they failed. The game is on the court not in Masai's office. I'm not saying that Masai couldn't have done more to help the core but I still think it was worth trying and it didn't work out and Masai pulled the plug. You can be mad at Masai and blame him, that's your right, I don't see it like that.

No they needed Donavan Mitchell. Even taking a shot at an aging Durant or Dame would have given Pascal space to operate in his prime with solid 2-way players around him. Even a guy like Lavigne would have been at least an attempt to create the space on O end that Pascal needed.

It’s kinda sad watching these skilled players we developed, some with championship experience prosper in the playoffs on rosters that are have multiple skilled scorers.

We had a serious trade chip with Barnes and did nothing to try to take advantage of such a strong core.

Return to Toronto Raptors
