It literally doesn't look that way at all. Despite whatever it was that Kyrie tried to set in motion, the vast majority of the players are on board with this plan (including most importantly LeBron James and the other superstars) and there are hundreds of millions of dollars that depend on them giving this a go (for both the league and the players).

Whether it ends up being a mess is a different question, but they're going to play.

It's also notable that all the complaints have come from 1) players on bad teams with nothing really to play for, 2) injured players or guys with injury concerns, and 3) Dwight Howard. (Dwight is in a contract year and already got positive publicity for his regular season play.)

This just further goes to show, the NBA should have cut right to a 16 game playoff if they were serious about the quarantine. Like half the malcontent voices are out if the Trail Blazers aren't pointlessly in the mix.

People keep trying to tear down Kyrie but it's becoming very clear that this sentiment is shared by many players. These protests are truly a unique time in modern history, especially in the context of 2020, so it makes sense that a lot of these guys that have or have had people close to them in situations that were systematically unfair realize this and want to take advantage of it.

Just as if the majority of players decide to play, if the opposite happens, more power to them. I know at my job if we had the power of unions and the power to have our voices heard we would fully exercise that.

Hope we can see some more elements of major change in the coming months.

Literally the question i had... But more specifically... If your team was not invited to Orlando, are you getting an equal salary % as those that are playing?

If you say, "well its not their fault" that these bottom teams are not allowed to play even tho they would, the argument could be made that they should be entitled to the same playing % of salary.

Hence teams 17-22, might feel they get short end of stick, "forced to play" with little chance of advancing, to get paid the potential same % as those asked to just stay at home.

Same thoughts as me.

The top 22 teams will think, "Why should they get payed for our work?". The bottom 8 teams will be thinking, "We were never given the option to play." It's going to be a sticky situation.

Currently I feel like the best option is to pay all players and then give a bonus to the teams that are playing the rest of the regular season games... not sure though.

To throw in another a wrench in the gears, we will have players like Kyrie who may not even show up to Orlando. What a mess. All I can say is good luck to Adam Silver. He's handled this season well so far but there's still a lot of work to do.

Edit: Who had final say in what teams will be in the bubble? Was it a vote? Was it Adam Silver?

Re: final say

Well crap tons of discussions between owners alone, between owners and NBPA, supposedly not enough discussions between NBPA and players. Than owners voted on the preferred option (one that had the Green light from NBPA). Than NBPA leadership announced agreement with the option.

The problem is not on the league\ownership side, its on the NBPA side, for not communicating sufficently with its players and not having its house in order.

NBA will try to add additional things to put players mind at ease, but they are going forward 100%,

If i was a black player in the NBA i wouldn’t set foot on a NBA court to entertain anybody with the current situation going on in the US and around the world right now. Jackson is 100 right! The NBA being restarted right now would only take away from the seriousness of what’s going now. You’re literally playing basketball to entertain some people that don’t even give a sh.. about your livelihood or your people’s livelihood. They only care about you entertaining them so they can get a few couple bets in or celebrate when you win a championship for their city and some of these types of people are on here too. When Masai had his situation there were people on here defending to cop because in all honesty they only care about what he does to make their city/ country become a winner. Lot of people only care about guys like Lowry coming back and being Pitbull Lowry on the court but can give a sh.. about Lowry protesting for a cause that affects his identity because his protest doesn’t have any benefits on their lives. I wouldn’t set foot on a NBA court to entertain anybody at this point If I was a black NBA player. Imagine giving people a reason to celebrate NBA wins in a time like this smh Image

If that comes true, I think the Mavs are the runaway favorites to win the title. They've got the best white team...

I had either heard or read somewhere (can't remember where now) that the NBA would not penalize players not coming into the bubble if their teams were in the 22 that are invited, but those guys would not be paid. The controversy would be that IIRC guys who were in the bottom 8 and were not going to Orlando would still be paid - so there is a huge potential conflict there if that is the final determination.

I would have to think that decision was made early on before the protests and players stances because in the current climate it would not seem fair. That being said, this is such a strange situation with no precedent for most stuff and reality is that with every decision it will be impossible to get 100% buy in and there will definitely be teams/players that are screwed in the process.

Re: the Florida COVID numbers, this has been something I have been thinking about and I am surprised barely anyone in the mainstream media has mentioned it. The cases are spiking in that state, but nobody seems to think that is an issue worth discussing. The protests have been the topic of discussion (rightfully so) but the pandemic which put the season on hiatus in the first place the current state of affairs on that front is getting lost in the shuffle. That is a major concern to me, because if an outbreak in the bubble were to occur is in a state with increasing infections it would truly be a disaster.

What happens then? Do they shut it down again or keep going?

Masai will be living in the same hotel as Giannis for a while. It’s open season for tampering after what the Clippers did to us

it's starting to get real now

i think the league are f'ing up big time. florida has almost 3,000 cases confirmed in ONE DAY

they should be moving to CA or anywhere that's not gonna be a freaking hotspot. :banghead:

no way this works out. a bubble with hundreds of people clustered together like that? no way a bubble is strong enough to keep covid at bay.

if i were a player, i'd be speaking up big time right now

You wouldn't have to speak up, you can just not go, players aren't being forced to play.

Devil's advocate for this is all the spikes seem to be in Miami - Dade County. Orange County which is where Orlando is only has like 3000 cases. The population is roughly the size of Toronto for the entire county. I don't think anything major will happen. I imagine the Florida governor will order another stay at home if the spike continue till the end of the week.
