He was criticizing the refs for sure, but he was also by extension saying Shaq's 45 was not a legit 45-pt performance. The cheating headline and opening sentence was poor journalism, but nevertheless, he belittled Shaq's performance and he should expect nothing less than Shaq hitting back.
What we all want from the players we support is for them to give credit when the other team gave a good performance, and CB didn't do that. If you want to make a complaint about the officiating, make it through the proper channels.
Here's the quote according to the original article:
“He was just camping down in the lane,” Bosh said Friday night, after O’Neal’s biggest scoring night in six years led Phoenix to a 133-113 victory over the Raptors. “I mean, if they’re not calling three seconds—I thought it was a rule, but I guess not.”When Bosh says "He was just camping down the lane," this can be interpreted (at least by Shaq) as saying he's cheating because camping down the lane is against the rules as Bosh alludes later in the quote. He goes on to criticize the refs, but just because the refs are not calling it doesn't mean it's not cheating. Those 2 points are mutually exclusive. So Bosh is accusing both Shaq for cheating and the refs for not calling it and, as seanied says, by extension, he's also saying Shaq's 45pts is not legit.
Under these circumstances, Shaq's response isn't at all surprising.
