Tight 1st quarter, solid 2nd quarter. Say what you will about Heslip but he has serious gravity around him. We were struggling to generate offense late in the 1st and early in 2nd - Heslip came in and changed that pretty quick. Glad he hit his first 2 3s, Bahamas had to take him seriously afterwards.

Good win for the boys. No complaints, everyone did their bit. Now we get to start getting excited about June/July.
The announcer tonight said that Horford was likely going to suit up for Dominican Republic at some point (not sure if he will play both June/July and September) but would be fun/unfortunate if he played in the summer against us. Combined him with Towns and we have a really exciting game lol.

Massacre 113-67 for Canada (46 pt win)..I'm pretty sure I could make the Bahamas team if i had a citizenship.

Canada will be playing a home game against Dominican Republic in late June and Virgin Island in early July.
The top three teams in the group move on to the next round. In the next round Canada and the other top 3 teams will play the top three teams in Group B Brazil, Venezuela, Chile and Columbia

There are still two more games in June but we are qualified for the second round at this point (Bahamas can't catch us). It's hard to say who we will play in the second round but as of right now it looks like Uruguay, Argentina, Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Chili, USA, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Dominican republic, Canada and Virgin Islands will make it. I don't see any of the bottom 4 making it at this point judging by pt differential and teams they play.

Damn that probably means we get Venezuala to start unless we beat the Dominicans in the second game.

B/D standings through four games:
Brazil 4-0
Dominican 4-0
Canada 3-1
Venezuela 3-1
Chile 1-3
Virgin Islands 1-3
Bahamas 0-4
Colombia 0-4
Three of these teams automatically make World Cup, and fourth place team has chance (depending on record relative to fourth place team from A/C). Canada's rematch with DR will be huge, as will our home and homes vs. Brazil and Venezuela.

Great results - my concerns about the guards for this window were unfounded. We're in great shape to qualify now, just need to get good participation and handle our home games this summer. Really looking forward to playing Venezuela again in the next round. I want to destroy them!

Yeah, Big men seem to be way more valuable in these types of games than guards. Having Ejim/Bennett/Pierre/Anthony is a luxury. I honestly don't mind Anthony in small doses he changes a lot of shots which no one else does. Xavier Rathan Mayes is good but he's pretty ball dominant so I almost prefer guys like Best in his place.

Appreciate how bad Bahamas is for a minute. So bad they made the corpse of Joel Anthony look alive today. He played some decent defense today - but this is is first game in the last 12 or so Team Canada games I’ve watched he actually contributed something. And his offense was still horrible.
Great win and the guys look good as a whole. But I’m not taking too much positive from this game considering the quality of the opponent. Ejim looked good again, Heslip can hit uncontested threes. Landry took advantage of a big size difference, played well and looked good next to Pierre. Bennett seemed underutilized again, but I think had foul trouble. Tommy Scrubb had an excellent and seemingly under the radar game (plus 35) The PG situation was unimpressive and they even had Heslip running point for long stretches ineffectively. Best, Peter Mcneilly seem decent. The vets looked steady. We had way, way better talent here - totally outclassed Bahamas, but I didn’t see too much to get excited about with Canada. A group like this will beat Chile and maybe even Venezuela, and could hang with a NBA-less DR, but would be beat soundly to Brazil.
It is going to be a whole new team in the summer and if we can go 4-0 with a solid NBA turnout we could be sitting pretty good.

my read is if we come 2nd in pool D we play Chile (assumed B3) at home, and Then BRA (assumed B1) away in Sept. if we came first in Pool D the we play VEN at home and then Chile away in Sept. Not sure what I prefer. And not an ideal scenario where we’d get a shot a both Brazil and Venezuela in sept with our NBA players.
I think I rather have our nba guys get a crack at Brazil and take a chance that a B team could still take out Venezuela.

NBAdraft.net with a new mock out late last week.
Not much change from late January.
SGA (2018) drops from 11 to 13.
For 2019:
Barrett 1 (unchanged)
Brissett 8 (up from 11)
NAW 10 (down from 8)
Shi-ttu 17 (down from 15)
Wigginton 28 (down from 25)
Jackson 55 (unchanged)

I hope they leave a spot for EJim regardless of our NBA guys. I think he is more valuable than some one them.

I am sure there will be a spot for him.
The only bigs who might be ahead of him on the depth chart would be:
Olynyk
Lyles
Thompson
Powell
Birch
It is arguable whether some of them are better than Ejim and, in any case, I doubt all five of those guys will be willing/able to play.
In fact, I think it is more likely we have only one to three of those five, meaning we will need not only Ejim but also perhaps Nicholson, Bennett, and Boucher.

Interesting that Brissett and NAW are ranked that high. Mostly a testimony I think to a pretty weak 2018 class. I'd be quite surprised if they are both lottery picks next year.
Brissett has been a really nice surprise for those who didn't know him before, but his shooting is really not good, and that's at the college level. He'll need to improve that quite a bit next year (especially the three-point shot, in order to be an efficient 3-and-D).
NAW has been having a really up-and-down season, with plenty of games where he scores 5 or less and seems to be out of VT offensive game. That said, he had a great game tonight in a surprise win over Duke, leading the team with 17 and playing better than likely first draft picks this year such as Duval and Trent Jr. He's also been shooting well (41% from 3) and playing solid defense, as always. I just wish he has a bit more of the gumption that his cousin is showing at KY.
