The Raptors are taking a step back? Since when? They're looking to re-sign VanVleet and will probably throw money at Serge or Marc. As long as Lowry is on this team, they will be looking to compete.

How that impacts the draft remains to be seen, because we've seen evidence where they'll force a rookie into the SL (OG) and other times they'll let them compete for end of rotation minutes (Poeltl, FVV, Powell, Delon). All executives have to draft the players they think have the best chance of succeeding on their team, because a project that just sits on the bench of lights up the 905 is still a useless part of the team and loses value aside from being a throw-in on a trade. And, also, historically the success rate of risk/reward players in this range is pitiful. Almost all the hits were perceived low ceiling guys or seniors.

I see we are keeping Davis. I am not sure what is the reason for trading Davis.

You must have missed it but I said that I don't see the Raptors resigning Davis.

Of course I see people (including you) saying we are going to trade Davis, but I do not see the reason, and his value isn't even that high.

Tonight's draft threads are open and I'll be locking this one come 7PM this evening. I know everyone here has a strong opinion on the type of player we need. What I hope for is that we all accept the results of the draft and root for the newest set of young players joining the team.

Sounds like a presidential election. Instead of POTUS, getting BPA.

Maybe Davis, McCaw, Stanley and #59 for sign and traded Davis Bertans?!?!?

This is similar to the Bogdanovic trade.

Okongwu has a foot injury, players with injury concerns that drop in the draft is what we do best. Hopefully we trade up so he drops near us.

Again, I don't see the reason that we are trading away Davis. Those are fans asking to trade him (for no reason?), not necessarily how the organization value him. I can see McCaw and Stanley, but we are taking back salary, or you mentioned for Bertans (without #59, because you can't do a sign before the draft).

Because there is a big chance the Raptors are not going to play TD this upcoming season until they get a clearer idea of what happened. I can easily see the Raps suspending him with pay until his court case is settled. The alternative is to see if any other team wants to take TD on for a small price OR we just cut him since his contract is not guaranteed this upcoming season.

I can easily see that the policy is giving out criminal tickets when you are going at 61 km/hr on a 60 km/hr road, which is just a speeding ticket. I don't see the Raptors will suspend Davis, and keep in mind that in North America, you can get sued without evidence, just because you are rich.

The draft is all about looking forward and generally 3-4 years out how does that players project because usually that's when they've redefined their role and in their rookie season its typically smaller roles and contributions and certainly not enough to compensate for the lose of previous position of depth.

Some of you really need to come to terms with the fact that we're no longer competing for a chance to make the Finals - we're taking a step back. Now have to start building the foundation over for the next run and that happens by trying to get the best talent we can in draft because it offers a cheap opportunity for that upside. There are plenty of stop gap bigs that would give us similar production to a rookie big.

I would normally agree with you but Bobby has not signaled that in his presser and sounded like they have the same mentality coming in. They want to compete at a high level and they want a guy who can play right away.

There is G League uncertainty, heck the Raps don't know where they are playing. I just don't think this is the year for a developmental guy.

I agree, I think that if we take a Bruno-type developmental guy, it'll be with the second round pick, and someone that can be stashed in Europe for the year so that they get a chance to play.

8PM on Sportsnet as well as NBA TV Canada

I've seen 7pm on ESPN and on Sportsnet it looks like 7:30. Is ESPN doing a 1 hour preview while Sportsnet doing 1/2 hour?

Yeah I think if you have NBA TV Canada you will have the full 1 hour preview.

Looks like TSN will also be airing the draft (with the half hour preview).

Sacramento did a sign and trade of Bogdanovic to Milwaukee before the draft. I guess drop #59.

I'd be behind this pick. This guy is of Nigerian heritage, comes from Buffalo and grew up a Raptors fan. Add to the fact he is a big wing who shoots 40% from three, he is a easy player to fit into the rotation. The major red flag is lateral quicks, finishing ability and overall defense. He was not great last year, but he was using most of energy on offense. My NBA comp for him is Cam Johnson who is the same size size but many people will also think of Duncan Robinson as a comp.

Return to Toronto Raptors
