I'd say this is closer to Wright over Portis and taking a player nobody was expected at a much later pick (Powell and Siakam). Frankly, I think this was a great draft for Masai. I didn't see Siakam coming, but I don't have any way to scout every pick, and he's clearly done his homework. At first glance, I really like Siakam. If he's another Faried-ish player in a year or two, the Raptors will be laughing.

This draft is nothing close to Bruno. If we drafted Skal and Davis that would be like Bruno. Explain why you think this.

Unexpected, especially with Sabonis on the board. Also, Paskal was projected as a late 2nd round pick. There, two reasons why.

I saw Pascal in the early second round on some mocks. Tankathon had him 32. You might say who the heck is Tankathon, but they weren't far off.

I think its very apparent from this pick that motor and work ethic were huge factors, and Skal and Davis seem to have flopped on those.

24) Philadelphia: Timothé Luwawu, SG (France)

25) LA Clippers: Brice Johnson, F (North Carolina)

26) Philadelphia: Furkan Korkmaz, F (Turkey)

I wonder if we had all 3 of these guys ranked higher, Brice I'd think for sure.

Yup this pick doesn't hurt half as much when you look at that. Davis looked like a mental child, Skal had a cracked back and while he can maybe shoot, Siakam does everything else better than him lol (cept for maybe passing?) - if you can get NBA skills at an almost FOR SURE level (rebounding, blocks, athleticism are all checkmarks for Paskal) then you take it at 27th

Damn is DWade getting into web development?

I find it hard to believe DWade even knows what Pascal is. Surprising.

Where Siakam is today is the brink of getting drafted. Most mock drafts predict he'll be taken in the second round, and one or two have him rising into the late first round. Menzies thinks if Siakam does become a second-round pick, he'll one day be considered a great bargain, a steal.
"He's going to make somebody really happy," Menzies said. "People don't understand. You can only get so much out of a brief interview, or scouting. You can't really evaluate an individual. But after having him with me for three years, I can tell you, whoever ends up drafting him will be more than pleased."

Siakam's first post tutor agrees. Brown followed up a telephone interview for this story with two subsequent text messages as he kept thinking of different facets of Siakam's game that will translate to the NBA: The high motor. Offensive rebounding. The ability to put the ball on the floor and go by defenders. A jump shot that now extends past the 3-point line. But of all Siakam's skills, Brown thinks one stands out.
"Defensively, he's really special," Brown said. "He is a multiple-effort defender. He can switch all screens and guard perimeter players. He hedges and recovers and stunts and gets back and plays multiple times throughout a single possession. He's not one and done. He also blocks shots. I think he can step in as an NBA four man right now."

This guy is our Draymond Green, book it. Great story about how his dad's wish was for one of his sons to be in the NBA but he died in 2014. His family all went to the funeral but told Pascal to stay in uni because thats what his dad would want. He really matured after that.

Sooooo Draymond Green minus the handles, passing and 3pt shot....riiiight

Is he at least good at groin kicks to warrant the comparison??

But Siakam's offensive game was limited to the paint. In his first season, he took just 16 jump shots and made only three. Siakam knew what he had to work on in the offseason, and he threw himself into the task with all his might, taking up residence in the gym and hoisting thousands of shots.
"Summer three [2015], that was all perimeter," Brown said. "He did whatever we told him and more. And he became a proficient shooter. For us, he was our best five man, and our best four. But he potentially could have been our best three, because he became a very good shooter from 15, 17 feet. He could score off the catch or the bounce.

He is also considered a good passer with great instincts considered he only starting playing basketball 5 years ago

Looking at his 3pt & assist stats it doesn't seem like he has...let's pray he can.

Nope because most North Americans aren't indigenous to the continent. Africans are, except the ones that were forced off the land to America, which is why we call them African American.

So when Africans were transported to North America it created a new race of people?

I enjoy this form of debate where you just ask the person questions and let them expose themselves

We've been linked to Poeltl for longer than we've been linked to Sabonis. Siakam was late first / early second so it's not a stretch at all - can't find any mocks that have him late 2nd. The only surprise was that Skal and Davis fell so badly. That's all.

This year's Bruno was Georgios Papagiannis. When I saw he was drafted at 13 I thought the following for his selection.

Siakam's a much better passer. He has the tools to develop a 3 point shot too. Developed a mid-range game in one off-season

Interesting but Pascal has Ibaka's build with Tristan's game. Compared the three in draft express and it's kind of creepy. If he could be nearly as good as any of them it would be great.

I'm done. But I would just like to add that race (when applied to humans) is a social construct created by man and popularized by Americans to justify slavery!

Let's just hope Siakam spends the entire summer working on his shot. His pre-draft video made it pretty obvious he's comfortable from mid range, but quite bad once he steps back to the arc.

Future DeMar DeRozan replacement.

Return to Toronto Raptors
