Wow. Zalgiris needed that one as one game was separating like 5 to 8th seed. Is CSKA resting players with the 1 seed locked up?

CSKA wasn't resting, but probably wasnt mentally there 100%. Anyway, with such a strong guard play Zalgiris can beat any Euroleague team this season. Only one regular season game left, I believe Zalgiris hasn't made top 8 since 1999, so this is their best season so far in this millennium.

Have you been watching him closely? What’s your opinion on his potential for the NBA? Sounds like Barca is looking hard at him, but I am also hearing the Clippers are following him closely.
Is he good enough to be straight up signed by an NBA team to a multi year guaranteed deal? Or if he actually wants the NBA, he is going to have to toil in the summer league, and try out with some sort of partial guaranteed camp deal? I kinda think he is better than that at this point. Take the the big money from Barca (sorrry Zalgiris) or a NBA guaranteed deal. He is a full free agent this summer if anyone was unsure.

There are far worse guards in the NBA. I really like Pangos, he is an amazing shooter, one of those guys where when he shoots, I expect everything to go it. He is also good ball handler and doesn't lose his head when pressured. I remember how he completely dissected Panathinaikos switch everything and pressure PG defense with his passing. The only thing that is lacking is probably creativity with his passes, but I think he can easily play in the NBA, he reminds me of Calderon a lot. Way better than Stauskas and Tyler Ennis.

RJ Barrett just dropped 25 & 16 onroute to win the Geico High School National Championship and an undefeated season. That wraps up probably one of the most decorated high-school careers of any basketball player in the States. Don't think we'll ever have another Canadian prospect with this kind of pedigree ever again.

Now, the real question, does he play U18 Canada ball this summer?

Great pride. For sure, a historic high school career for a Canadian. Next on the list is an NCAA title.

I think slim chances that either he or Nembhard (who was excellent today and throughout the championship games) show up for the u18 as they start preparing for their college careers. For Barrett, that's quite reasonable. What more does he have to prove/achieve after almost singlehandedly bringing Canada the u19 last year?

Finally a decent night for the Canadians

Brooks 28 pts 6 rebs 4 asts (he had a good shooting game until he started jacking to try and get 30)
Murray 27 pts 2 reb 7asts (He won them the game hitting 3 free throws to force OT after a a clutch steal). 7/15 fg
Wiggins 23pts 6reb 4ast (10/22)
Joseph 10pts
Lyles 9pts 9reb
And the others aren't worth mentioning...

I wouldn't If I were him...It can only hurt his hype if he doesn't repeat his performance. Also, he could get injured. Having said that, I would have a sh*t ton of respect for him if he did.

Excellent night indeed. Too bad Lyles is not getting more minutes since Millsap is back because he was really excellent when he played (including yesterday).

Here's a nice write-up on Murray:

He will probably be advised not to. But he may want to anyway and his Dad certainly won't suggest he shy away considering his role with Canada Baskeball. Hes so good. I don't think he has to worry about his stock falling. He would dominate that tournament a year advanced in his development. When you are as talented as him he could probably dominate that tournament athletically without taking a jump shot. The fact that he has an improved jump shot would make him him unstoppable. I hope he does play.

Looks like a fairly stacked USA roster. Does the world have much chance here? Not too familiar with many of these other guys.

I guess the world team always has a chance as long as RJ is on it, especially as RJ and Nembhard come with built-in chemistry. But I agree, that US team looks stacked, so it'll definitely be a tough uphill battle for the world team.

I'm intrigued by this N'Faly Dante guy, a 16-year-old 7-footer. There's a video up on Youtube where he looks fairly mobile, but mostly a catch-and-dunk kind of player at this stage. Although who knows how much his game has developed in the past year, especially at that age. Anyone know anything about his game?

I actually think the world has a pretty decent shot. Beyond RJ and Nembhard and Iggy, there are a couple of very good players on this team. The one I was most impressed with is Charles Bassey. He's quite a physical specimen -- big, strong, excellent athlete, and doesn't shy away from contact. Also has good skill. One of the best bigs in American high school. Doesn't always play with enough fire, but can certainly stand his ground with the US bigs.

The two other players who I think are up to this level are Jalen Hoard and Josh Green. The French Hoard was, if I remember correctly, the leading scorer in the U17 WC almost two years ago. A big SF who can also play PF, with very good skill and a scorer's mentality. I remember at the time thinking that he might be the player with the second-best potential in that championship, after RJ. Green, the Australian, is an excellent shooter and also a very good athlete, so I think he can also fit in well in this game.

So the world can put a starting lineup of Nembhard, RJ, Hoard, Green/Iggy, and Bassey, which I think will give an excellent fight. That said, the US bench is clearly much stronger. There's no one on the world's bench that I think is really at this level, including N'Faly, who's still very green and doesn't do much on offense. But sometimes, it's actually good to have a clear hierarchy in these games, where bench players know they're there to give a body, instead of trying to show they are the stars, as probably any player on the US team will.

One player I would have loved to see here, and who I think could really have helped the world is of course Simi. Would be great to see him again with RJ, Nembhard and Iggy. If he stayed in Montverde, that would be a legendary Canadian high school team (which I guess it was in any case).

Beyond Simi, I could make a case for at least 3-4 other Canadians who should have been selected for the game. Dort is a no-brainer. He played in this game last year, and I really cannot understand why he's not there again. The others are Llwellyn, Kirkwood, and Banton. All of them are arguably better than at least some of the bench players on this team, especially considering that some of these players are in the classes of 2019 and 2020.

So what happened here? Some of it may be issues of position (Simi is the only clear big in this group). But I think there's also a matter of visibility. The world team last year included 5 Canadians and this drew quite a bit of critique, with some saying that it's no longer really a "world" team. And given that the world's coach for this event for the last 7 years has been Rana, I guess they were especially careful this year to have no more than one-quarter of the team be Canadians. Too bad, because this 2018 class is, as I said before, probably the strongest we ever had. Would have loved to see all 8 (including a health Simi) face up against the best US players of this class. I think there's a chance we could take them. Would have to play small ball and they would still be the favorites, but I would have liked our chances.

Not a huge NPH reader but I found this article today and thought it was pretty interesting - it covers the D1 Canadians transfering for next season. Couple names on here that we talk about quite a bit...

http://northpolehoops.com/2018/04/07/canadian-2018-ncaa-transfer-list/

Koby McEwen - Probably the most pro-potential on the list. The article mentions that Oregon is interested in him (no surprise) but I don't think it's the right move for him - maybe Creighton?

Marcus Carr - Had a good year at Pit. Not mentioned in the article but apparently Villanova has interest in him - would be cool to see him play for Jay Wright.

Nate Darling - Does not get brought up a lot here but he was a big part of our U19 World Championship team. Would be cool to see him get a bigger role going forward.

Interesting. I'm actually not sure why any of those three guys are transferring. They seemed to be in pretty good positions where they were.

The only one I can kind of understand would be McEwen, if he really thinks he'd have a good shot at the NBA at a program that gets more attention and wins more games than Utah State. Still, might be a "grass is always greener" situation that they may end up regretting, seeing as they'll have to sit out for a year.

Re Marcus Carr. The Pitt coach was fired and there is a mass exodus out. I think at least 7 guys or more are transferring. As that coach recruited them all. Shameil Stevenson the other Canadian has announced he is staying.

Re: that discussion a few pages ago about Canadian players most likely to get a triple double - Dillon Brooks just put up a 22-8-8 game in 32 minutes. He's a decent passer, maybe he's a candidate sometime in the next few years.

Yes, excellent game for Brooks. In April he averages 17 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

But we need to remember that this is already garbage time for many teams, so we often see inflated stats at this point of the season.

Speaking of, a few other Canadians seem to be using this time to improve positions for next year and played well yesterday:

Dwight Powell with 13, 10 and 4 assists yesterday, continuing his post-all-star breakout

Khem Birch with 12 and 12 (over the last 4 games he has 11 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2 blocks, shooting 60% from the field and 85% from the line).

Tyler Ennis with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals (over his last 4 games he has 12.5 points, 5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and almost 2 steals).

Birch and Ennis are fighting for a place in the league next year, so it's good to see them doing well.

What's crazy is that Ennis pulled this same stunt last year and I remembered all of us talking about it like he was going to have a big 2018... Man time flies eh boys?

In other (unsurprising) news, Oshae Brissett is going back to Syracuse.

HairCanada, at some point I'd love for you to break down the top 5 Canadians in NCAA D1 for each class (Freshman/Sophomore/etc) for 2019. Realized I know a lot about our upcoming Freshman class and this years returning Sophomores but don't much about whose hanging around as Junior/Seniors.

Looks like a fairly stacked USA roster. Does the world have much chance here? Not too familiar with many of these other guys.

Basically not a single top prospect from Europe attending. That team with Doncic, Dzanan Musa, Isaac Bonga, Doumbouya, Luka Samanic, Arnas Velicka, Goga Bitadze would obliterate Team USA imo. It's still a solid roster, but the US are clear favorites imo.
