he's also not a great defensive player. His size allows him to be a presence but he still has a LOT of room to improve in that area

Shaq couldn't either, but he dominated for as long as he did.
Shaq was way way way way better than DH and there really is no comparison, I cant believe you even brought that up!

Hmm...a meniscus tear. Maybe the Lakers have pessimism about the structural integrity of Bynum's body....the rumors would make more sense. Bosh also misses games, but to my knowledge, not due to structural damage..and you can probably keep him healthier if he has to do less on the floor (i.e., not carry the offense night in and night out.)
If a deal like this goes down, the Raps had better make sure they get full medical reports and do a thorough physical...he shouldn't be breaking down like this playing 29-31 minutes a night.
Edit: Discussion of it here on the general forums: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1007641

Incredible risk, but I'd still do it. It appears that Bynum won't be somebody that you can play 30+ minutes regularly in his career, though.

After his latest tear I've decided I just don't want to go down this Bynum road. We want reliability in our vision going forward, Bynum isn't that

Re: ESPN BS Report rumour: Bosh for Bynum already done?
another injury? jeez.
Well, it looks like this deal could very well be there this off-season if Bynum is limited once AGAIN for the playoffs.
I still roll the dice and do this. Big men with skills/agility like him don't come round very often at all- and there is the looming threat of ending up with Beasley or David Lee.

Again he`s only signed for 2 yrs with a team option for the 3rd if he doesn`t work out next year he will be a huge expiring in 2011-2012 season. Bynum is like the Jermaine O`neal situation except that he`s about 9 yrs younger. It`s a reasonable gamble if you consider his age, potential and contract length. Colangelo is always looking to trade for flexibility and upside he has one in Andrew Bynum.

You know who else had a lot of injuries early in their career then turned it around? A certain #2 draft pick who we shipped out for next to nothing.

As much as I loved Oakley's intangeables, Camby has turned into one hell of a player.

If BC can't move Hedo, then he needs to bring in a solid Centre. I'd love to get Marc Gasol on this team, just because of international level of play and the fact that Bargnani could play Powr Forward.
If we are leaving Bargnani to play Centre then we should not blame Turk for his poor level of play, but rather that we got nobody in the paint to attract attention.

Yep, the talent is undeniable, despite the injury concerns I still take him, because when healthy, he is a top 5 C in the league, and at 22, can still get even better. I'd still want to have Orton or Whiteside next to him, and hopefully they develop into good C's so we can regulate Bynum's minutes (especially with injury concerns)

You're right. With Bynum, there would be a need to invest in a decent backup capable of being at least an okay starter.

Bynum's a high-risk, high-reward. Houston's assets might not have as high a peak as Bynum but it's pretty damn close. There's also less risk attached.
IF we get the picks we want, I choose Houston 9/10.

I like the possibilities with Houston.
Do you think San Antonio can offer up a comparable deal?

Re: ESPN BS Report rumour: Bosh for Bynum already done?
with the injury concerns it makes it more likely they would also take on jose
worst case Bynum doesn't play much and raps don't pick up his option. They are out of Jose's contract 2 years earlier

San Antonio has less to offer unless they dig into current talent and take on more salary than Houston. Yes, they have expirings (Jefferson and Parker) and they have young players George Hill and DuJuan Blair. But Parker is core, and they may be very reluctant now to part with Hill. They have the rights to Tiago Splitter, but Splitter hasn't exactly rushed over from Europe. So I'd say it's unlikely unless they put Hill in the package or they send Parker with Jefferson and take on Turkuglu.

Which they'll never do, trade Hill and Parker in the same deal, and not get a capable PG back...Hello Jose...but even then I don't see it. Plus I doubt they take Hedo, after the failed experiment, or lets say he didn't play as well in Spurs uniform as he did for ORL.

Big difference: Camby had plenty of injuries, but they were always different injuries. The concern with Camby was never that a particular part of his body was ruined, but just that he was too skinny and too reckless in leaping through crowds to play through an entire season without suffering some other freak injury.
With Bynum on the other hand there have to be serious concerns that his knees are ruined. He is a big heavy guy, and there were already rumors on draft night that he had the knees of a 40+ year old man. I think there is much more cause for concern with Bynum then there ever was with Camby.
