Well, it's interesting for sure.

I wonder if this does hurry up the process, and a trade before the deadline means Boston is out of luck. I'm not sure if NO should trade now or wait.

The Lakers are the obvious fit - they've got a lot of assets they can flip for him. But I think that any realistic trade from LA involves a lot of young players, and it doesn't exactly leave them with much of a core. By the time they can build a proper team around Lebron & Davis, Lebron will be getting old.

The Clippers might be a dark horse. They've got a nice supporting cast and tradeable assets.

The Sixers might actually match up the best - Ben Simmons for AD is a great trade for both sides. Probably the scariest one for the Raps.

Maybe Portland can put something together?

Siakam, OG, a First, A Second, Delon and one of our C's is an acceptable package. Aside from the fact that we'd lose both of our power forwards, it wouldn't decimate our depth either. It's obviously a reasonable trade for us - we'd get a second superstar and really become a legit threat. It's a pretty good trade for them - they'd get a young borderline all-star, a couple prospects and a couple picks. Somewhat similar to the Kawhi trade, it would be in our favour but not by a landslide.

I don't see it happening. But I don't think it's crazy either. Realistically if:

• NO is not high on Ingram
• NO wants a deal before the summer
• Philly doesn't want to trade Simmons for Davis

Then it is a realistic possibility.

I'm convinced that Davis and his agent told NO that he wasn't going to sign an extension a while back but the Pelicans didn't make much effort to actively trade Davis (like Thibodeau was doing with Butler at first). Now Rich Paul decides to make the information public to put the pressure on NO and ensure that everyone in the league knows so they can generate trade offers.

The Pelicans are in damage control mode. They put out that Davis says he is going to play out the season to buy some time with fans because they can sell the idea that because Davis is still playing so he might change his mind. They are in a very tough spot. I don't see how you can hold onto Davis and have this conflict and drama hanging over your team for the rest of the year in hopes you can squeeze more out of LA and Boston. There's even the chance he gets hurt in which case you aren't likely getting guys like Tatum.

You don't get a lot of players successfully forcing trades in-season. Raptors fans obviously remember Vince. I'm having trouble thinking of others.

Pelicans are in no hurry, Celtics can make the best offer. Lakers have the closest ties. I'm putting money on one of those two teams.

Huh? Masai either makes this deal now or never. You don't make all-in moves after the pot is already shipped. If they wait which is a poor decision, then they get less.

No, because he's still signed for another year. And Boston can theoretically offer the best package, and so if they wait until the off-season they'll get the best deal.

I agree Raptors, if we were to pull this off, would need to move now. Won't happen.

Yeah... and two years of Davis is worth more than one. He's not going to 100% guarantee ANY TEAM he will re-sign and give up his unrestricted free agency.

Theoretically... Boston could have offered a lot of packages for a lot of players and they never have.

What the could say to Ainge is tell us what you're trading, agree and NOP have an option to back out by year end but Celtics don't. Handshake. That's about it.

Several teams told ESPN that they're already weighing the possibility of making offers for Davis, including contenders who'd be willing to use Davis to chase a championship this season and perhaps recoup assets lost in a trade to New Orleans by flipping Davis at auction after the season -- or keeping him into the final year of his contract.

Sounds like us

1) we are all in this season - "use him for one playoff run"

2) recoup assets by trading him again- "kawhi left"

Kawhi and Davis could sign for the Clips together next off season but this the now. The only thing that matters to is Raps fans is this year whatever happens after that will not matter if we go all the way to the NBA finals. We can rebuild after this season but **** I'll mortgage the future if we can somehow go all the way. Masais loyalty is to winning, and we will be in prime position if we can somehow trade for Davis this season. The lineup of Lowry, Green, Kawhi, AD and JV is championship material!

Wrong.

Davis is under contract next season. If Clips get him this season, it will make Kawhi`s decision to join them MUCH easier.

The game theory element should still lead the Pels to aggressively shop AD at the deadline.

Why would AD's camp leak that he wants to leave now if he preferred the Celtics as a destination?

His camp knows that the Celtics have the likely best offer this offseason so if he was fine with that outcome he would have played out this year in silence. So not only does he not prefer that destination, you can infer that he explicitly wants to avoid it as the Celtics are not a trading option now.

Of course, Ainge can make this same logical analysis; so why would the Celtics make a godfather offer draining their team of assets for a player who is already signalling he isn't that interested?

The Celtics have the option of not being in win-now mode and may even lose Kyrie this offseason. There is no guarantee that the they would make that big offer with the available Intel.

Meanwhile, AD is now an expiring contract instead of 2 years as he is now, and the win now teams are even less motivated (or some like us, will have missed our window).

A big gamble.

well lets be honest, we need to make a strong enough offer so that they WILL deal AD this year. whether we or the other team be the one making the trade for AD.

Otherwise, he'd be going to Boston come offseason hits. we can't let that happen.
