I always liked Faried and even a guy like Montrez Harrell. Hope here is that Mog somehow develops a jump shot and separates himself from that mold. Pretty unlikely imo but I’ll take elite rebounder and versatile defender on the roster. Haven’t had that since Rondae Hollis and obviously Precious.

Being able to at least get that mid-range shot down will be everything for JM. He's clearly been working at it. Hopeful he can carve out a nice niche for himself as he does fill a need for us as a big wing stopper (besides Scottie) that we simply lacked after all the trades last season.

The big developmental goal here is a working jumpshot. If he can be a credible threat to shoot...he is a legit NBA player. He has the physical tools, ability to handle the ball, pass and rebound.

The jumper still needs work and the release needs to be quicker...but so far so good

I agree expect with the handles. His handles look straight garbage with that high dribble.

He has done well grabbing the rebounding and getting up the floor in college and was able to snake his way to the basket for most of his scoring...so it is at least solid. It doesn't look that different from Scottie's handle, TBH.

He also literally used to play pg in high school

He was like sub-6 ft tall for most of high school and so a growth spurt changes the mechanics of how he handles the ball but I do see the court vision in his college game tape so the point guard heritage definitely shows.

Like I said...his ball handling is not unlike Scottie's so that is fine with me.

Going to need to hit an open jumper to create a role for himself
Bobby Portis came into the league shooting 30% from 3 and slowly grew his shot to 38% from 3 for his career. But also shot great in his 2nd college season. Absolute best case in my mind is a back up 4 role that is annoying on defense and can hit a 3 to stay on the floor.
Mogbo likely isn't hitting 38% but hoping he can get to 35%
A lot of work ahead for him

Did he hit the rim on any of his layup attempts last night? I recall a play after the whistle where he air balled a layup attempt.

The jumper is important and necessary but you can carve out minutes with good finishing at the rim to start out. If he can’t do that he’s not an NBA player.

Needs to work on overall scoring. Shooting, finishing. His dribble is fine for his role. Defense looks like it will translate. He has to be able to score a little though

I always correct these posts but you can't say what kind of shooter Portis was on his 52 attempts in his rookie year, or even his 33.3% shooting in his software year, but presumably he was at least all right and probably capable of shooting 30-35% so he showed a baseline. Let's see Mogbo show a similar baseline and I'll be impressed.

Mogbo doesn't have a baseline. He never shot them in college. If Mogbo could come in an impact defensively like a Portis and then hit an open shot, he'll have a better chance of staying on the floor, not just a hustle and rebound guy. Those guys arent in the league.

Before Barnes play a single nba game, the scouts thought his upside was Draymond Green. Now with Mogbo being a poor man Barnes, could his upside be Draymond?
