Potential high level candidates aren't stupid. They see what happened to one of the most respected execs in the league. Does MLSE really expect any of them want to willingly enter that kind of environment? Nevermind that you just saddled them with a GM etc signed for the next 3 years whether they like it or not.
So that leaves the lesser-lights such as Casey, Eversley, etc. Bringing in a senior exec with a losing track record from a mediocre or poor organization sends a bad message to fans and likely also gets Bobby and others polishing up their resumes with one foot out the door.
Given that they are unlikely to attract an elite exec, their best scenario would be promoting from within. So move Bobby up and let him choose his new GM from whomever he can attract or promote. Right now, that's probably their best chance at saving some face in all of this.

Agreed completely.

Okay, if the decision to cut Masai was purely financial (which was what they are all saying) and not performance related, the only logical move is to promote Bobby and move Tolzman into the GM position.

It wasn't about the money though. Not entirely. Ed hates confident people who know what they're doing and command respect. He surrounds himself with bootlickers at Rogers, and wants the same type of people running his sports teams.

I know he's a big MAGA Trumper and wouldn't be surprised if there is a racial element as well...not just a confident guy, but a confident and proud black guy.

This is all speculation but who knows.

Read on Twitter

Betting sites don’t really have a read on the raptors. Just off recent history the CMB pick and Darko hire were at fairly significant odds.

I was joking it would be BC, but this isn't far off. I'm confident it would be BC if he wasn't blackballed by the league.

I feel like it will be Bobby promoted to POBO and Casey replaces Wayne Embry as guy who sits in box with owners to explain the game.

This is what a sensible owner would do. That does not describe Ed Rogers.

If the intent was to fire Masai because of "one man's vendetta" and "bruised ego" then I agree they could've started the search for his replacement sooner. So the fact that it didn't happen throws cold water to your theory.

I don't recall either Ed or Masai saying their relationship was one of hatred so seething that it called for a vendetta. The more likely explanation is it was about money. Ed is on record saying he thought Masai was overpaid. So when it came time to renegotiate Masai's contract, Masai likely rejected Ed's low offer. So Masai wasn't dumped as you say, rather they "parted ways" as the official announcement went. Executive search is an arduous process, thus makes sense to start only after they were sure Masai would be gone.

What's funny is so many people here getting all worked up over this Casey rumor based on a Detroit Free Press article. Are we now believing a Detroit newspaper as gospel now? There's enough reason to hate on Ed Rogers without using Casey as a straw man to beat up Ed on.

That would make more sense. Casey has a lot of respect when it comes to that sort of thing and he's widely liked by people in general.

That's the thing though, he's saying Masai is overpaid to the media. That is only the surface of his understanding of Masai's rizz. With Bob Meyers we didn't hear any rumbling of why he'd leave. Why? He was enough of a pro to not speak to the media. Eddard Rogers is not a PRO.

iirc he wasn't on record. This was an NBA source leaking this detail to Doug Smith. Ed Rogers publicly commented on the tough negotiation and revealed he was upset that there were leaks about how contentious it got.

Ah. I see. Personally I think peak Rogers was 2006-2012. Rogers on Demand was super hype. HBO on Demand was GOATED TV rizz. I remember watching Game of Thrones on HBO on demand back in 2010 lol it was the first season. I watched the season finale and immediately downloaded the books after.

Now I really dislike Rogers. The Ignite package is a terrible deal for consumers IMO. It's good for Rogers since they only have one line to maintain... but personally I think that having some separation between cable and internet is preferable. Many such cases of internet going down and losing TV too! Before you'd only lose one.

tbh, it was a lot of money...if you look at it....it seems like he got paid 60M over the last 4 years (15M/year) plus a 60M payout (remaining 15M plus 45M bonus)...so total he got 120M for 4 years....that's a lot of money
