As a Player, you have to look out for you & your family first because if you are fooling yourself to thinking the organization or the fans are loyal to you, you are delusional. The moment they can get a better player, or that you start to fade in talent then suddenly their loyalty miraculously goes too. Maybe now DD can understand this is a business first & foremost and to look out for himself because no one else will.

And DeMar has already taken care of his personal life. He could retire tomorrow and him and his family could live like kings for the rest of their lives. Plus, he is still under contract to make lots more money. So, why the sour grapes DeMar? You already knew that sport is a business. There are no guarantees in life for anyone - welcome to the club! That being said, thanks for your contributions while you were here, and I wish you all the best in San Antonio.

The sour grapes are because he was literally told he wont be traded and then he was traded. If masai had said "theres still a chance you're gone" then I dont think he's mad at all.

Why is that so hard for people to understand?

Hey BramptonYute (from a fellow Bramptonite? Hmm, what do you call yourself if you live in Brampton - oops - can't wait for all the cheap shots!!!). How do you know he was specifically told that he wouldn't be traded? Masai said in his presser that it was a misunderstanding. Masai, at the time he was talking to DD, assumed the Kawhi trade wasn't going to happen, so he talked to DD about his expectations of DD for the upcoming season. Then after that meeting, the Spurs agreed to a trade. I can understand why DD ASSUMED he would not be traded, and his shock when the trade materialized.

I can't wait to bump this thread when free agents don't sign with the Raps. It'll be even more satisfying if one of our own free agents dip. Can't wait to see how all the haters in this thread react.

It could also be a bigger picture thing in Demar's mind, and goes further back - like that sit down discussion with Masai where he was told he could be like the Kobe of Toronto and play his whole career here, if he was willing to change his game to be a better playmaker, shoot more threes and play better defense. Demar did take steps to improve in those areas, but it all fell apart and disappeared in the playoffs when it mattered most. He didn't just get a little worse, he actually became the worst player on the team.

So in his mind, maybe he believes he has done everything asked and earned the right to continue in Toronto, while in Masai's mind he probably doesn't want to commit another max contract to Demar and had reportedly been looking for a DD trade deal for some time with no luck. Considering the prominence of the player it had to be a very good deal - DD being worth more to us than to other teams, really - and it wasn't looking likely so Masai had no reason at all to plant seeds of doubt in Demar's mind, and spoke as if they were planning to have him on the team in the fall.

Then Kawhi freaking Leonard actually became a reality, and he would be an idiot not to take the deal available. That's the business of pro sports and has NOTHING to do with being a snake.

Well, free agents weren't exactly lining up to sign here before, either, were they? Playing with Demar was not helpful at all in recruiting and even his best pal Kyle Lowry would have left last summer if there was a deal to be had. Nothing has changed, and unless a player specifically says "I am declining the Raptors offer because of what they did to Demar", you will have no evidence at all that trading Demar was the reason.

This is just a stupid, reactionary hot take from someone feeling scorned. Players go where the money and opportunity is, because EVERY TEAM has traded away players after telling them they weren't going to. Every single team. Why is Demar an exception to the usual business of the NBA?

Yeah because Derozan was attracting so many good free agents. When he was here LOL

Demarre Carroll 60 million

I’m so happy he’s gone and if other players don’t understand why the raptors traded a 25-30 player for a top 7 player

Then they can stay the **** outta Toronto. We’re trying to win here. Nothing else

Hedo didn't work out but at the time he was a coveted free agent. Same goes for Demarre. Kyle was a free agent and re-signed. DeMar as well. I guessing we'll see where Kahwi signs. Raps can offer the most money. But maybe he'll go for a better opportunity in LA. Lol

This was legitimately a great basketball BUSINESS decision.

So what you're saying is that you're not a fan of this team, and actively hate its fans, and only are here for the schadenfreude?

Bit of a different take.

Everybody is losing their freaking minds. Nutbars and wingnuts have infested this forum. We've become a public lavatory without cleaning staff.

It's been a few days now, I think Demar has started to move on, we should to.
Let's just talk about Kawhi and whatever is left on Masai's plan until training camp.
