Still a Chomche skeptic given how much he has to learn, but the kid has got to be one of the most likeable prospects we've ever had. He also seems to have the right mindset to bridge the massive skills/experience gap. I'll be rooting for him!

Hard not to be pulling for this kid.

He joined the NBA Basketball Academy in 2019 so he's been learning basketball and English for 5 years.

He's obviously very raw when it comes to competitive basketball, but I'm pretty excited by his physical and cognitive abilities tbh.

Straight up clown ever since he started working with Alex Wong.

Perhaps, two years from now, he will have emerged as the best player from this draft group from the Raptors?... or is that wishful thinking?....

Clearly defense is the difference between winning and losing for this team.

It's possible.

It seems like the work ethic is there and that's a big part of it.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion given how much potential he's shown

He is not even supposed to be in this draft class, this kid would have been an early second rounder in 2025. Some speculated first round potential also.

I’ve loved what I’ve seen. That agility, passing and court awareness from an 18 year old 7 footer is super rare.

He’s the highest upside prospect out of our 2024 batch.

He’s got a long way to go but I’m genuinely surprised that no team took a chance on him. There are going to be so many guys from this draft class that don’t pan out and yet you let a guy like this slip to 57th. He’s an interesting prospect.

Can you imagine how much of a specimen this guy will be in 4 yrs? HOLY
He's a kid!

I no longer doubt he'll be an NBA player

Talk about freaky elite tools!

With that body / length /speed / quickness /motor

remember he also plays centre, so even if he only developed into a hyper Capela/Giannis-ish rim runner + rim protector :o

And as raw as he is, is he really that far off from being an effective bench big with those tools?

wouldn't surprise me if he was a bench big by next yr and even playing in March-April of were tanking

He doesnt need a ton of skill anyway (Like Bruno needed as a wing) which I don't think remaining skeptics are considering..

more so he needs to learn how to play and I think he could be an effective rim protector sooner then later.

and I wouldn't doubt he could develop into more, there are flashes of more..

His physical tools are so odd to evaluate. He’s one of the fastest big man that ive ever seen, lightening quick 2nd jump, really fast straight line speed and his lateral quickness is really good for his size.

But yet his vertical pop is very weak for how athletically gifted he is, maybe it’s his jumping technique ?

Im guessing its a technique thing with him because ive seen him gather jumping off of two feet and getting good vert. It would be odd if such a good athlete like him cant out jump Brook Lopez

I think the vision with this pick is undeniable. The tools are there for him to become a very elite defensive player. And I think unlike Bruno he has the mindset to strive for all the improvements he needs to make. It'll be genuinely interesting to see his play in the G-League and if he's able to make jumps during this season.

Chomche wasn't the greatest in the combine in terms of vertical leap.

Comparison with Bona (who was one of the best bigs), Clingan (who was one of the worst bigs) and Mogbo.

Standing Vertical Leap (Inches):
Bona: 35.0
Mogbo: 31.5
Chomche: 29.0
Clingan: 25.5

Max Vertical Leap (Inches):
Bona: 40.0
Mogbo: 37.5
Chomche: 35.5
Clingan: 29.0

He's not a lumbering big like Edey, Clingan who mostly play on their feet, but he also doesn't have the explosiveness off the floor like some of the top guys. Chomche was comparable to guys like K Ware / D Holmes in these drills.

You do have to wonder how much training hes been doing related to jumping, if he even improves just a little then thats a scary sight to see when you combine his speed, agility and strength

Really, really interesting prospect. We may have a gem on our hands.
