How about Gay and Lowry for Varejao + Jack and Bennett?

Bynum needs to play more for 12 mil anyway, and Varejao is too old for the Cavs to win with right now. Jack is ok but nothing special. They get a legit wing which they are desperate for, and they have the elite point guard to finally get Rudy his easy looks. He might opt out anyway (considering there are many teams that will give him a much longer contract), at which point they save a ton of dough and go after Lebron. Bennett is the cookie for taking on Jack's longer deal and Gay's inefficiency.

They dont need lowry and we dont need Varejao. Gay for Bennett and Jack is fine on my books.

If we tank:

Lowry & Fields
for
Granger & Indy 2016 first

Load up on picks that year, with this move we'd have 3.

Varejao has to be in there to make the salaries work:

Trade ID #6348376

Toronto trades: Gay and Acy
Cleveland trades: Varejao and Bennett.

Throw in minor players and/or 2nd round picks to make it work.

Lin is looking out of sorts in Houston. Asik is also likely on the move. How do these poison pill contracts work? Could we trade Gay for Asik/Lin to a brain damaged Morey? Then move Lowry's expiring and you got a stew baby.

What about Amir/Augustin for Lin? Houston gets an advanced stats friendly big and TOR gets a young long term PG

We need to focus on expiring deals and young assets that can be used to trade up in the draft if need be.

DeRozan + Amir for Faried + Andre Miller + 2014 1st

Gay + Lowry + Hansborough for Boozer + Mirotic

Our Asset Base - surely enough in the cupboard to move up in the draft if need be.

Nikola Mirotic
JV
Ross
Faried
Raptors 2014 1st
Nuggets 2014 1st
Knicks 2016 1st

The fact that Bynum is considering retirement I don't think they're looking to part with Varejao just yet.

I would dream of these...unfortunately I think that's all these proposed deals are.

I was thinking Gay for Bennett and Tristan if we do a deal with the Cav's. Bring em home :P

EDIT: NVM it doesn't even work in trade checker

sanity wrote:Gay will still take another year to approach that UFA-standing (assuming he opts in). Can't consider him an expiring contract at this point, so the idea of salvaging a 1st for him doesn't seem feasible.

If I'm Detroit I don't want any part of Gay or his contract. Him and Josh Smith chucking away? No thanks. And Gay "bulking up" to be more of a tweener 4. **** that (from their perspective). That's far too much overlap and tacked on salary.

Its hard to determine who would want Gay at this point, other than a contending team with a tonne of useless salary to throw our way (there isn't many of them). Chicago (salary-wise) may make the most sense, assuming they want to overhaul much of their roster with the removal of Boozer and/or Deng.

The more I look at LA's situation, the more I really don't think rebuilding with a declining Rudy Gay along with his 19m contract probably isn't going to make the destination any more attractive. Sure, you could make salaries work via Gasol, but its pointless for them to trade him now. If they don't land a superstar, it is in their best interest not to overpay for borderline star players. They're better off going the route the Cavs took post-James.

I think you are right on the money. I really can't see a realistic trade scenario for Gay unless we package Val with him. Usually you would see a trade scenario where we would take back someone with an equally long (or longer) and expensive deal but I really don't see many options that make sense. Colangelo really set this franchise back with his extremely short sighted acquisition of Gay.

In 3 moves Colangelo completely screwed this franchise.

1st rounder for Lowry
Fields contract
Expiring and Ed Davis for Gay

we could have had Dennis Schroeder, Ed Davis, tanked this year and $30m in cap space.

Cleveland can take whatever they want from us as long as we get rid of those deals and bring our boy home. Obviously, TT is too valuable for them to trade, but AB is really stinking up the joint so maybe they'll give up on him. I honestly don't care who the filler is as long as we can start piling up those lottery balls.

Allow me to add to your misery by mentioning passing on Drummond for Ross, which essentially screwed us out of a JV/Harden deal.

Pretty much would have had a team of

Drummond
Davis
Derozan (or traded)
Schroeder
Harden

Not a world beater but with cap space and solid drafts/trades a great core

Gay still has abilities, I don't think the league is completley down on him yet. I don't think throwing in Val is a necessity at this point.

I think you trade Demar in any case. He's cheaper, younger, and a better image around the league. Trade him and wait to see how Gay handles the off season and his contract options.

How bout Derozan and Lowry to the Bucks for Butler and Ridnour?

Based on Trade machine it means -6 wins for us, +4 for the Bucks (who are in win now mode?). Lowry and Knight become their PG tandem, and Derozan becomes the young post up shooter they want for Ilya's shooting...

Toronto gets worse and they get expiring. With Derozan and his reputation (he is putting up good numbers) possibly a protected pick comes back the Raps way?

You look at possible trad-able teams, and I keep coming back to the Bucks. Mostly because I'm not 100% sure what they are doing.
