But yet his vertical pop is very weak for how athletically gifted he is, maybe it’s his jumping technique ?

Maybe he has a lot of quick twitch fibres but needs strength ans explosiveness work outs?

Comparison with Bona (who was one of the best bigs), Clingan (who was one of the worst bigs) and Mogbo.

Standing Vertical Leap (Inches):
Bona: 35.0
Mogbo: 31.5
Chomche: 29.0
Clingan: 25.5

Max Vertical Leap (Inches):
Bona: 40.0
Mogbo: 37.5
Chomche: 35.5
Clingan: 29.0

He's not a lumbering big like Edey, Clingan who mostly play on their feet, but he also doesn't have the explosiveness off the floor like some of the top guys. Chomche was comparable to guys like K Ware / D Holmes in these drills.

Matches the eye test tbh, didn’t know about these numbers.

as Jama mentioned, balance has a lot to do with it. Once he gets stronger and becomes better coordinated, he should (we hope) be able to finish plays like the one from yesterday where he dribbled down and missed the dunk.

I don’t think people get how young he is

He made the cut for this draft class by less than 48 hours.

I’m super excited. I think his development goes parabolic over next 2 years.

He’ll be only 20 at the start of 26-27 season.

i'm excited about this guy, but he's about to become the next roko ukic

i think he has a long way to go, maybe at least 1-2 years before he can crack the rotation
this year, he should focus on getting in nba fitness and experience in g-league

I'm optimistic, he's ahead of where I thought he would be. But, he's still a long way off so we should obviously be patient as well.

His development could definitely take off in this environment along with being much earlier in his development and inexperienced so it's possible that his improvement could be a lot more exponential than his peers.

I can imagine how bad he would look in the workouts. He doesn’t have much fundamentals and simply doesn’t know when the pass will come to him.

There were some athletic raw prospects who failed to develop in the NBA. For example, Ismael Kamagate, Moussa Diabaté.

Chomche makes me think of Bill Russell, I've been hesitant to say it. But he's a big who looks like he can be a defensive menace and gets the team out in transition, sometimes taking it himself.

I'm not sure if the offensive feel will fully materialize, but if it does, he's got shades of Giannis in his game too.

He's an athletic specimen and he works hard, and seems mentally strong. I didn't see him hang his head once despite the numerous mistakes.

I think he's actually more vertically explosive than rookie Giannis. But I'm hoping and expect he improves in that area since is still so young.

Always the Giannis comps lol. If he becomes a Nic Clayton or Onyeka Okongwu level player that is a 99th percentile outcome given how raw he is.

I would be thrilled if he becomes either of those guys. I feel like it might be selling him a little short though. The sky is the limit for him. You can't deny the physical and athletic similarities to Giannis. He's already bigger, stronger and more athletic than Siakam ever was.

I could also see a scenario where he turns into a Drummond or Javalee McGee. A guy who tries to do more than he's capable of and as a result becomes a net negative. He seems pretty bright though, so I'm hoping that's not the case.

If he learns the game, learns to pick his spots and develops his skills. He'll be a monster.

Chomche already has an NBA body. People need to remember that 18-year-old Giannis looked like this:

Chomche is the Jakob Poeltl replacement once we finally get around to trading him.

Chomche is a long term project. By long term, I mean within 1 season. By project, I mean an improved version of peak Giannis+Curry amalgam. That's my minimum expectation of him. We need to drill this expectation into his head every second.

Pressure and fear turns scrubs into superstars. Encouragement and liberty turn superstars into scrubs. It's scientific.
