Re: Dalano Banton Discussion
Is it just me, or does he look a hell of a lot better as a scoring wing than as a change of pace point guard?
We saw him do this for Team Canada and in the G-league.
I think doing Shooting Guard like things (for those of you thinking we are playing completely positionless) is his path to success in the NBA.
I'm glad Nurse saw that.

He has to do both that's all. Last night with so many players down, it was next man up. He just has to carry into games where we're healthy

It was a nice game but I'm still not sold at all.
Gotta be consistent.

pretty sure you're not sold that the sun's gonna come up tomorrow

For sure it is definitely a matter of being consistent. Night Bus clearly has all the tools to be an impactful starter. Which means it's all about confidence, which comes from support, hard work and experience. Knowing he can do what he did last game in the NBA and not just in the G League (Where he did that and more all the time) will help grow his confidence further. The sky is the limit for him. Just depends how much he comes to believe he can fly.
Personally I don't see any reason he couldn't eventually start having nights like that on a regular basis. And his defense is huge too. I have high hopes. but then, i always do.

I think he can eek out to be situational player this season, I don't think he's the solution for our back up PG problem but he has a place on the roster.

Re: Dalano Banton Discussion
Banton has been very good overall.
His shooting splits on the season are impressive at 46/35/87. Even before the big game, his shooting splits were solid enough for a sophomore at 43/33/80.
His defense has been good as well. He can miss some assignments at times, but overall he's made strides there, especially as a point of attack defender.
PER36 can be misleading, but even these numbers are impressive at 22/5/4/2/2. He can impact the game in so many different ways.
He's earned a consistent role in the rotation and I don't think you can ask much more from a 2nd round, 2nd year player.

Michael Jordan walked, so Delano Banton could run.

Re: Dalano Banton Discussion
I find he contests very well but people still hit shots over him higher than expected. It's like when Maxey and Lebron were hitting three's over Precious like wtf.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars
Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid
There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Re: Dalano Banton Discussion
Question: Why did they draft David Johnson right before Delano Banton? So if they didn't make the trade to get the other 2nd pick, would they be crying with DJ? Or maybe Banton goes undrafted anyways and they sign him?

They drafted Banton a pick before David Johnson. I think that Banton was always the Toronto pick because he was a Canadian and an outlier 6'9 PG. David Johnson was to me an analytics pick. They had back-to-back picks and thought we could take a flyer on this toolsy PG/SG, but Johnson just didn't pan out.
I would have gone with Brandon Boston Jr., Sharife Cooper or Jericho Sims with that second pick, but teams can make mistakes.
I do think Banton might have gone undrafted, but I think to some extent the Raps felt bad being Canada's team and never having drafted a Canadian. There were so many Canadians that became NBA players and it must have felt like a miss on their part. Lu Dort and Dillon Brooks should have been Raptors given how late they were picked.

Didn't Sharife Cooper got waived by the Hawks (much like David Johnson)?
Sims is interesting, but this year we drafted Koloko, which is even better (potential to hit the 3s).
I think only Aaron Wiggins made it to the NBA team with Thunders?

Just saw there was a YouTube video suggested for me titled "the Raptors just signed the NEXT George Gervin...", with a picture of the Ice Man and Dalano Banton in the thumbnail.
Which one of you made this??

Re: Dalano Banton Discussion
Delano is one super high twitch guy. I need a language telestrator just to figure out what the heck he is saying because he talks so darn fast. Little wonder he's always plays pedal to the metal, 120mph. The fact he is able to do so without constant charge calls against defenders also shows just how aware and how quickly he processes things out there. Maybe he can help OG in that department.
For these reasons he is starting to appear like the steal of the draft. A potential star in the making. If he has the drive to improve there will be no stopping him with all the tools he posses both physically as well as mentally. His three point shot improvement yet alone in one year after appearing he would never become a good shooter has been nothing short of amazing. Kudos to Raptor management for nailing yet another one.

IMO he's got the potential to be a 20ppg scorer. He can also be one of the playmakers in the league, given his length & athleticism.
I didn't expect his shot to get this good this fast. He's well on his way to becoming a capable NBA starter in a year or two.
His emergence will make Fred expendable.
I think Delano's got a ton of potential, but still not consistent, and not ready for full time pg duties. Boucher had a similarly good G league season, even better if I recall correctly. I can see him as a super sub in the mold of Boucher, but not an impact starter on a regular basis unless he continues to make major improvements in his game.

This is where I'm at with Banton. The guy has one of the lowest BBIQs I have ever seen as a primary playmaker especially in transition and doubly so on a fast break. He doesn't even bother trying to fake a pass while on a 3 vs 1 break.
He's very much the good stats bad team guy. If he's going to be a back up PG or be playable with other talent on the floor, Banton needs to play some G-League teams with the specific directive to average 15-20pts, 8-10 asts, 5-8rbds, plus defense. None of this ball hogging and look to score alone BS.
Sick of seeing him going 1v5 with the ball in his hands. Happens nearly every possession.

I remember being criticized when I said he wasn't anything to get excited about when I first saw him take the floor. I still stand by my first impression.

Shot profile seems to have changed too, really seems to be concentrating on 3s and getting to the rim and cutting everything else out. I think that's a positive focus for a guy trying to work into the rotation.
