Very sensible trade for IND... they needed to blow it up.

But (pending a blockbuster tmrw night) IMO Brian Colangelo wins Executive of the Year award in 09.... Book it.

JO is a competitor, and he will be fired up to prove everyone wrong... He's had almost 3 years to rest his body... IMO he comes back strong this season and the Raps will be dominant in the half court. 50+ wins. Eastern Conference finals.

Wow, just wow.

I like the trade for both teams. Colangelo badly needed to make an aggressive move this summer and this trade will do that. O'Neal obviously has durability issues but if he can stay reasonably healthy, he has the talent to combine with Bosh and lift the Raptors to the upper echelon of the East. Depending on what other moves the Raptors make, Toronto could become a major threat in the East. A Bosh-O'Neal frontcourt has the potential to be downright scary.

For Indiana, they get a bigtime PG in Ford and a decent prospect with the 17th pick to help them in their rebuilding effort. The Pacers have a lot of work to do but they now have some young talents like Ford and Granger and maybe they luck into something more than a backup with the 17th pick. Ford's proven history as a winner will also be a plus. Whenever Ford arrives with a new team, that team gets better. It happened twice in Milwaukee and once in Toronto. It will be interesting to see if it happens with the Pacers.

I agree that JO's heart will be in it, rejuvenated. I just hope his body is up to it.

Look i see that everyone is excited that we could be getting a big name, but lets be serious both Bosh and JO have both been injured for parts of the last 2 seasons and i think that if your believing they'll both be healthy next season it could be a reach. Personally based on that, this trade will probably bring us more grief than joy but i hope i'm wrong. On the flip side the poster who created the thread let's tank for Ricky Rubio might get his wish

I would've rather done a Barbosa for Rasho deal and a TJ for Maggette and then traded Kapono for Varejao or something.

where on earth did you get Rasho for barbosa? and TJ for Magette? Anyone can make up deals and say they want em. i can say, "i dont like this deal, id much rather do a graham for lebron deal".

To be honest I would be happy with that as long as there's also good %'s and 2 blocks. I think not being the primary offensive option will be much easier on his body.

I can't believe this, I'm in total shock.

I also am wondering what you thought of Supersub's stats that showed O'Neal scored inside more than your stats suggested (source).

No, I don't think he can stay healthy. Well, sorry, of course it's possible, but if even he's been saying that the knee post-op wasn't healed, expecting this to be the first year in 5 he'd play 70 or more games, I think it's a longshot, especially as he's at the age when these things tend to pile up more. If he had a great 'tude, I might have more faith in his ability to do what it takes to give it the best shot, but he doesn't. JO's contract has been called an albatross now for a while for a reason, imo.

But yes, if he can, we're more interesting.

Sorry, what stats did SS show? Been gone since yesterday, never saw his response. I pulled mine off 82 games, which I trust for everything but accuracy re: position played.

Thanks for answering, Harry. Your posts usually piss me off, but then again when something goes down, I can't wait to hear your take. Let me find SS's post.

Good analyis... question, you being a TJ fan, you gonna keep following him while he's with the Pacers? They have a chance to be a fun team to watch with their youth

Yup, I'll keep following Ford. I love his game and I wish him the best in Indiana. But if you Raptor fans don't mind I'll be keeping tabs on your team a lot too. I like Bosh; I'm a Calderon fan and I'm very interested to see how good the Bosh-O'Neal combo can be. So I hope you guys don't mind if I stop by from time to time next season. :)

OK, not sure where you got your stats from, but I just NBA Hotzones, and here's what I got:

Under the basket:

Bosh - 43.3% of his total attempts

In the Paint (but not under the basket):
O'Neal - 39.9% of his total attempts
Bosh - 21.5% of his total attempts

Mid-range and 3s:
O'Neal - 18.3% of his total attempts
Bosh - 35.1% of his total attempts

If you consider the painted area as "inside":
O'Neal - 81.5% of his total attempts
Bosh - 64.8% of his total attempts

What's this about TSN reporting the trade as the pick, TJ, Rasho and an unnamed player? Anything to this or is it just TSN's usual crappyness shining through?

To make the salaries work on our side, another player is necessary. I believe Baston was mentioned somewhere earlier in the thread as a possibility, so it's not like we're going to give up anyone vital here.

I'm still not excited for the deal as many are, I was hoping for a pick coming back to us in some way. Well, full details are still scarce. We'll just have to wait and see.

I am late to the thread and haven't read it all. I am glad to get JO. But why do we have to give up the 17 pick? I understand TJ and Rasho to match contracts. And maybe another player for that. But why the pick, it does nothing for the salary cap. I think player value wise, TJ and Rasho are enough, because Rasho can actually play don't forget. Why are we giving up the pick too?

i have a bad feeling JO's stats are going to decline further, he'll have a few flashes of his old self but have a lackluster year...

Return to Toronto Raptors
