Dallas and Heat.
2 teams that:
a) confident that they can keep siakam. siakam lived in dallas / has family there / luka doncic. miami is miami.
b) would be aggressive enough with an offer because it helps elevate them in the conference

Re: Pascal Siakam Trade Speculation Thread
Do teams REALLY want to give Pascal nearly 50m for 4-5 years on the open market?
I have my doubts.

I was watching the kings telecast and their commetators celebrated the fact that it was first time all season Keegan had TWO dunks in a game.
He seems incredibly one dimensional.
I don’t understand the purpose of trading Siakam anymore. Age players primes are going very long if they are taking care of themselves and avoiding injury. Siakam is doing both. Siakam has played less hoop than the average nba player of his age considerably because of when he started playing serially. Pascal might still be better than Keegan Murray is 3 years.
Who says Keegan Murray isn’t just Tobias Harris? Siakam is all nba right now
This starting 5 is a long boi dream

Did you think Fred was getting that much money?
If someone has the room, yes, he will get that.

Reasons for trading Siakam include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following:
1) Thinking he won’t re-sign so getting something for him now.
2) Thinking he won’t re-sign unless it is a 5 year max contract and not wanting to give him that for various reasons.
3) Thinking he and Scottie can’t work together because they are too similar.
4) Thinking that a team built around Barnes-Quickley team can’t happen while Pascal is here.
5) Thinking it is better to use him to acquire assets that address roster gaps (and gain draft picks) rather than re-signing him.
The 5th one.
We dont really have any holes anymore- back up 3 and 5, thats it.
Starting 5 is balanced and LONG
Gt2 and dennis might be the best backup backcourt in the league.
What we gonna do with draft picks besides bury them on the bench?

Re: Pascal Siakam Trade Speculation Thread
I don’t think Siakam to Atlanta is necessarily dead. Shams today mentioned Atlanta as one of the teams interested in him
Some thoughts…
- Murray signed an extension to not go to the Raptors.
- Dallas apparently wanted Capela over summer and was waiting on Hawks/Raptors deal but apparently Hawks asked for too much for Capela, probably at Toronto’s request.
- It came out afterwards that Hunter/AJ/draft capital was declined by Raptors and Hawks walked away after Raps asked for Bufkin.
- Rumours are hot about DJM going to Knicks but it doesn’t make sense in a vacuum - Fournier and Grimes is a terrible return on giving up 3 years of first round picks as Atlanta did.
All this tells me:
- the Raptors were going to take a large Hawks contract besides Murray in any original deal to help clear their cap sheet.
- the Raptors were willing to take on Hunter, AJ, and draft capital but they wanted another young piece.
- Over the summer JJ hadn’t blown up and likely wasn’t requested while OO was likely off limits (I remember everyone putting OO in their trade proposals), these roles have likely reversed now.
So piecing all this together, here are some trades that are based on the premise that Masai was willing to take Hunter, AJ, Sacramento 1st but needed one more piece and Atlanta wants to build around Trae and Siakam while attempting get off Capela and/or Hunter.
Knicks: DJM, McDaniels
Atlanta: Grimes, Siakam, Fournier, picks from Knicks
Raptors: OO, Hunter, AJ, Sac 1st
Hawks get Trae, Grimes, JJ, Siakam, Capela starting lineup with Bogi off bench, Bufkin gets to play.
Raptors one more piece is OO.
Raptors: Claxton, Hunter, AJ, Sac 1st
Atlanta: Siakam, DFS, Dinwiddie, picks from Nets
Nets: DJM, Capela
Atlanta clears off long term deals in Hunter and Capela. Trae, DFS, JJ, Siakam, OO starting lineup.
Raps one more piece is long coveted big Claxton, very athletic and mobile, great shot blocker.
Atlanta: Siakam, Trey Murphy, JV, McDaniels
New Orleans: DJM, Garrison Matthews
Raptors: OO, Hunter, AJ, Daniels*, Sac 1st
Atlanta goes Trae, Murphy, JJ, Siakam, Capela
New Orleans gets very athletic and can play Zion as small ball C at times.
Raptors get lots of depth and 2 prospects. *if NOP doesn’t want to include Daniels, they could swap Kira Lewis and Lakers 2024/2025 first.

Sounds to me like the Raptors are basically waiting for one of these rumoured teams to give in and include the young player Toronto wants (e.g., Keegan, Johnson, etc.).
Unless those guys hit a bad slump in the next month (or unless Siakam agrees to a wink-wink deal to re-sign with the acquiring team), I really think JJ and Keegan Murray are off the table. Guys like Nembhard, Walker etc. just seem more attainable.
Personally, I'd thrown in a 2026 FRP, Gradey Dick and whatever else the Hawks want to get JJ.
Same. I wouldn't mind adding value to SIakam if JJ is coming back

Raptors probably laughed and hung up the phone.
Then Kings put out a statement: "At this point, the only way it ignites is if Toronto comes back to Sacramento."
What a freaking joke.

Fk Pascal's camp.
They're screwing this FO over.
Just give us a list of teams you want to play for man, why make life so difficult?
This is what I've been saying!! Seems like he really, really has an axe to grind with the FO. Otherwise, I can't understand what the point of all this is.

He wouldn’t resign or he wouldn’t resign for what Sacramento would offer?
My guess is the latter.

These are my two teams to watch for as well. Esp Dallas - they actually have a need for a PF and getting Pascal will elevate them to contender status. I am just not thrilled with what they have to offer... but if we need to make a deal to get something back for Pascal, I suppose it works.

Hahaha love it. Why the hell would Siakam promise to re-sign in Sacramento having no connection to the city or franchise. This is Masai’s failing 100%

Re: Pascal Siakam Trade Speculation Thread
People blaming Siakam for not wanting to resign with teams he is traded to should instead blame Masai for not trading him prior to him becoming an expiring contract.

Absolutely not. Siakam is a better player and JJ might not even ever become the player Siakam is. I don’t care if he is expiring or not.

They would have to let Tobias walk to open up the amount of capsapce needed to sign Pascal, to they'll be giving up assets regardless if they opt for max FA
Could be wrong but don’t they have a projected 70 million in free cap space next offseason? I feel like if they wanna keep Harris they can make it work somehow.
Even if the Sixers kept Melton and Martin’s cap holds on their books along with Maxey, they could still have around $41 million to spend before re-signing all three. That wouldn't quite be enough to give a max contract to someone with 7-9 years of NBA experience ($42.6 million) or 10-plus years ($49.7 million), but it wouldn't be far off, either.
They would still have to fill out like 7-8 more roster spots as well. It's like us, we could get 36mill in capsapce, but are we getting someone better than Pascal+Trent in FA ?
I can't see Philly getting rid of Tobias to bring in Pascal to reunite with nurse. They all wanna move on.

And as I've said before, it's so unusual, and unprofessional. Usually, managements and agents work together to find a place where the player wants to go and is willing to offer the player the salary they want in a wink-wink deal. It should be a win-win negotiation. Why isn't that happening here?
I'd love to know how the Heat-Lowry discussions went before the 2021 trade deadline, and why nothing transpired before the summer. Maybe the Heat wanted to take one more run with Dragic. And Masai really didn't value the right to overpay DR the following summer that highly.

It’s all posturing at this point.
Look, bottom line is, if you’re close-ish (Indiana, Sacramento, Golden State, etc.) and can add him without giving up the entire farm, you do it. There’s no long term commitment here, and if he walks, it’s worth it if you win a title.
I keep going back to this but we’ve done this at the deadline three times in recent seasons - first with Lowry, then with Fred, a week ago with OG, and now it’s Siakam, who is the best player out of all of them relatively speaking. There is a cost to passing on these types of players for prospects who may or may not pan out when you’re close to contention. If you want to make a run at a title, you have to pay a price.
I think there have been times where we’ve asked for too much but we should ask for too much, because titles are rare. You just have to make sure you don’t shoot yourself in the foot but letting a guy sign elsewhere without getting anything back. I think the OG deal was fair for both sides, which shows we’ll compromise as long as you come to the table with a decent offer.
