If he is coming out this year I would for sure grab him with our first pick in the second round .

It's to my understanding that he's staying another year.

Hope you're right. He's far from ready and one more year at Texas won't be enough, IMO.

Thanks to Turbo_Zone for the sig.

Re: Anyone else excited about Kabongo?
Either way, I would like the Raptors to take a stab at him. Reading his report, his biggest strength says that he is a dynamic playmaker. I could imagine that if the Raptors get Nash and Kabongo duo, it would be like Salami and Cheese.. a match made in heaven. I think Kabongo can naturally assimilate Nash's teachings and play style and become a Nash type player for the Raptors moving forward. He just needs a good teacher to teach him the ropes.

Texas' Kabongo and Memphis shooting guard Will Barton are seriously looking at declaring for the draft as well.

Alot of mocks have him in the early second - late first but I doubt he will drop past Indiana's first round pick.
Not really, most of them have him on the second round.
Not a lot of teams need a PG, so I am not worrying we can pick him up in the second round.

We may have to put him in the D-League for two years.

He should stay, he has potential to go in the teens if he develops how everyone thinks he will.
But if he does declare, I have no problems taking a Canadian kid with our second rounder.

Re: Anyone else excited about Kabongo?
I hope BC does everything he can with those two 2nd rounders to grab him. If we go after Nash as expected, he would be a great mentor to our young guys. He'd teach Kabongo everything he knows... it's been known that Nash is already a mentor to Kobongo... Kobongo has potential to be a great playmaker, that could be maximized with a Nash signing. Nash would also be great for Valanciunas... he'd get him so many easy lobs/passes to help ease his transition. But bringing in Kobongo + a top 5 pick would do wonders for our future nonetheless.

Regardless I am telling you he will go first round, NBA scouts love the guy. He won't be around for us by second round.
I heard earlier today too that he is planning on entering the draft. IMO it would be better to play a few more years at Texas, but wouldn't be as bad a decision people make it out to be.

Re: Anyone else excited about Kabongo?
Real overrated on the raps board. I've seen at least 3 games. He looked horrible in all. Still has a chance to be legit. But no way I take him over better prospects because he's from Toronto.

Re: Anyone else excited about Kabongo?
He has a good upside. Good speed and could become a good defender. His shot isn't there, and he gets his assist on pure speed, but is effective at times. Reminds me of Darren Collison a lot.

Trey looked good the one game I saw. I'd be on board, but with a later pick. To high to draft him in the 5-7 range imo.

DreamTeam09 wrote:Not a fan of T-rob at all. He has way less of a game than blake does with the same strength & hops. Plenty of bigs from this draft will be better. Sullinger didn't impress me against the Zags & the taller sacre. draft.net has him listed at 6'10 but looked closer to 6'8 that day.
Same here, not a fan of him too. I've seen him played, he looks like a blue collar guy with more athleticism and explosiveness, which is just a little tiny upgrade from Amir and Ed. I don't see any star potential in him. A PF like that isn't hard to find in every year's draft.

Re: Anyone else excited about Kabongo?
i watched Kabongo and CoJo very closely at Texas and can say with absolute confidence that Kabongo has exponentially more potential as a PG.
Both are solid defenders (kabongo better), Cojo shot the ball better at Texas but he had Tristan, Jordan and Jcovan to give him more space whereas Kabongo was forced to shoot in tough situations way more. Kabongo blows by defenders with ease Cojo doesnt. Kabongo averaged nearly double the assists that Cojo did at school with WAY less talent around him
That being said, I thought Cojo needed another year - he declared - and was picked in the 1st round - he's been struggling in San An tho...
I think Myck needs another year - but he will declare - he will be picked first round probably in the 15-25 range
He would be almost a perfect pick for the Raptors - he would be comfortable in TO + jose would be an ideal mentor for him to teach him pick & roll offense - 1 of the things he never really displayed at Texas with their lack of mobile bigs with good hands
Having said all of that,
There is almost 0 chance the Raptors get a late 1st round pick soooo lets all move on from the 'get kabongo' bandwagon... Maybe if his lack of experience gives him a bad rep in his rookie season we can get him on the cheap but until then we don't have the assets to acquire a late 1st rounder in this STACKED draft.
