No, he didn't mention any players by name.

This is what i expected. But i noticed he like to develop young guys, i think Jonas is in good hands.

I caught that too. Ujiri is president of Raptors basketball. BC is president of Raptors business. Confusing titles but whatever.

Is there some spin happening here - yeah.

But I can see the logic behind this. TL wants Ujiri focused only on basketball and nothing else. BC will focus on the business stuff - something he is probably much better suited for than Ujiri.

Is it a strange arrangement - for sure it is. 2 presidents is kind of weird. But I think the separation of duties is clear and workable.

They are definitely keeping BC around for some reason that we are not being told clearly about and have to guess at. Maybe it has to do with landing the all star game. But there is something, some core reason that he is being kept around.

No. He wouldn't comment on any players specifically.

He said it a few times that, until his staff is finalized he's unsure of the direction they're heading.

I knew something like this was going to happen. It's the smart approach.

I am sure him and TL have already discussed which way to go. The "We don't want to just make the playoffs but win a championship" talk indirecly says that we are re-building and changing over this roster.

That's all I needed to hear really.

It should be fun seeing his action during the draft and the months ahead.

I also don't think it's beneficial to announce your direction to the league one way or the other.

If you say you're looking to rebuild then teams will probably want to get your assets on the cheap....If you say you're looking to compete than teams want to sell you theirs at a higher price. It's much smarter imo to keep your cards close to your chest and make moves others don't see coming like in poker; than the other way around.

True. Aiming to make just the playoffs is a BC philosophy.

He said that Masai was president of basketball ops and BC was president of business or some othersuch nonsense.

Are they seriously giving BC $4million dollars to make decisions of branding, Bid for All Star game?

Being successful at both would be worth far more than the $4M he's being paid.

Not saying he will....but if there is one thing BC can do it's sell.

I thought there were enough "hints" without being straight forward. He's gonna put a emphasis on young players. He's taken notice to Canadian basketball (aid of triano) . He could be looking to add a young player in the back end of the roster. Either by trading for a young guy or drafting one. I thought this was a great presser. I also agree with TheGoodDoctor, its better he not say what direction were heading. Play it close to the chest.

I don't think it's so strange. I've seen similar re-structuring in companies I've worked for. This may be a sports franchise, but at the end of the day it's a large corporation.

TL stated that they had a similar structure in LA.

Exactly why a lot of us want him to make a move for Kabongo. I think that was the type of player he was referring to.

I don't believe that. It was a short term goal and a measure of improvement that he needed to keep his job. BC made the playoffs in his first few years here, but tinkered one year and blew it up the next, all because he wasn't satisfied. After Bosh left, we had to rebuild. In that process, you look for signs of improvement. I don't think it's genuine to act like BC was the only one wanting to accelerate a rebuild. It was Larry T's personal plane and Larry T himself going after Nash, and at the end of the day, the reason they said they wanted a new Gm wasn't because we were getting to the playoffs too much or because we were too close to the playoffs, but because he didn't get there. Leafs did and they were thrilled.

At least now with Masai, there'll be some more time as the change will buy some patience and he won't have to look over his shoulder. you can't look at how MLSE handelled BC's contract, both when OTPP were part of it and after and not conclude they got what they asked for, if there in a tough spot. in actuality, a few years ago if they didn't have the faith or didn't feel they could sell to the public, giving BC a deal with the rope Masai got, they should have just got someone else then. That they don't see that, or think that way has been my issue with MLSE.

and if there's any inconvience in timing of getting front office together and getting prepared for any decision that need to be taken around the draft and trades, MLSE is to blame for that. No one said you have to wait till BC's contract is up before you go shopping - this isn't a cellphone contract.

Board was split on getting rid of him. so they kinda did and kinda didn't. It's split a lot, I hear from John Shannon that things are always 4-2 with Larry T on the 2 side. Thing is, you can wonder if they would have got Masai if they really burned the bridge with Colangelo. And, imo, it was time for a change. BC ran out of rope and capital and it's hard to operate like that. Something drastic would have had to happen for him to get it back and be able to focus on the task at hand and not life preserving. However, the accolades about what he brings, imo, have a lot truth to them, a lot more truth in them than the idea that he doesn't know what he's doing and is solely a product of nepotism.

Again, pretty normal. You always have a few allies that are going to save your butt & a few detractors that want you gone.

They don't hate the guy & they think he has some very good strengths, so instead of outright getting rid of him, let's put him in a role that we think he'll excel at.

It's not so much a strange structure now that we know MU is also a president on the basketball side.

Exactly. That's been the key to Alex Anthopoulos's success ... on paper.
