I really hope so.

We traded for an Irish guy whose primary weapon is his jump shot.

His FG% is quite low [edit: relatively] for a big man who supposedly plays with his back to the basket. A lot of fades and off balance hoops, IIRC.

I want 77 games, 19 points (because Bosh will still be the leading scorer at 22-23 a game) 11 rpg (what we NEED badly), 1.5 bpg, and a good 37-39 minutes a game.

realistically, I'm fully expecting a declining forward. One that while only 29, has been been in the league since he was 18 and most recently played only 42 games last year.

I'm also expecting a player that should easily be considered one of the best Bigs to ever wear a Raptors uni...and we should all take that into consideration in this trade.

While injuries have taken its toll, and "the Brawl" has hurt his rep, we're talking about a player that finished 3rd in MVP voting in 2003-04. If we get even half that player we're still talking about a massive upgrade to our "charmin soft' frontcourt.

Indiana raped, pillaged, and burned the Toronto franchise to the ground with this trade.

There's no way in hell I would have been there wanting to try and outbid them.

Let's all take a moment and laugh at this ridiculous statement, please.
No let's not, traded 2 players with injury histories for each other, plus we give them our pick and Rasho a not so injured C that played solid for us. I'm not a fan of this trade, i have a feeling by mid season the JO bandwagon will riding lighter than a balloon filled with helium

For TJ, Rasho and the 17th i'm hoping for more than that

LOL@ I've gotten so excited that I just went an dplayed nba2k8 online. Ironically, the other person picked the raps, and I pickedthe pacers. Jermaine O'neal ended with like 34 points 11 boards, 1 block 2 assits.

FELT GOOD. We didn't finish the game, the opponent disconnected like a noob.

I tink people need to look at the big picture.

20million+ expiring > Ford, Rasho and 17th pic.

i think thats the main reason the trade was made, he's much cheaper now than he would be next year when his countract will be a hot comodity.

So it's going to be (after July 9):

Jermaine O'neal
#41

for

TJ
Rasho
Baston
#17

I'm glad we got at least a second rounder from them.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3461029

ESPN.com has also learned that the Raptors will get the 41st pick from the Pacers as part of the deal while the Pacers will receive Raptors forward Maceo Baston to complete the deal.

Ford's contract makes him a "base-year compensation" player, meaning the trade cannot be completed until July 9.

There might be a couple bigs of interest available at #41. I hope this opens up the possibility of trading Hump for a late 1st rounder and grabbing a wing.

Im actually quite happy that we at least get a 2nd rounder in this deal as well. At 41 there could be some intriguing wings and bigs. A few guys that might be there are Hardin, Dorsey, White, and possibly Hickson if he really slips.

Anyways heres a scenario. O'Neal stays relatively healthy for the next 2 years and puts up something like 17-8-2. Bargnani also plays well in these 2 years. There are no real intriguing options to trade him as an expiring. Do you resign him to a reasonable deal or simply let him walk?

I know these "trades in principle" happen every year around draft time. And I can't remember one in recent history falling thru before the waiting period.

thoughts?

Good question....... I mean now EVERY team knows what the offers are, can't they just phone up either Ind/Tor and offer something slightly better now? Isn't all of this just a "verbal" agreement?

anyone got the answer to this question? im interested in the answer as well

JO
Bosh
Kapono
Moon
Calderon--will be re-signed

Parker
Bargnani
Hump

Graham.
Delfino--restricted free agent

we will have to send some filler to Indiana, so we will be minus another player/players...

that's a lot of spots to fill on the bench...

We have a 2nd round, and Roko's coming over I think too. So we need what 2-3 players with the MLE.

I dont like this trade.

The thing is.... TJ is injury prone and JO also is injury prone, but TJ is 25 and JO is almost 30.

TJ has upside and JO´s good days are over imo.

Plus you guys trade Rasho who played very solid last season and lose 17 pick.....

Dudes pray GOD JO does not injury or you won´t get playoffs ( If JO is injuried, who is our center? Hump???? Barg the soft? )

In the end of this trade i see the Raptors are losing the potential of TJ for a good trade for years... his age and his potential makes him a better value than JO at 30.

Maybe i have different vision than yours, cos im not canadian....but imo i would prefer trade TJ for a relative young player with future, lets say Childress and a first round pick, a SF/C not allstar, but starter for years. As i said before, pray JO does not injury. Plus i don´t like 42% FG in the paint.....

You could argue that the draft combined with TJ Ford provided us an opportunity to fulfill two needs: wing scoring and rebounding. However, we've packaged both of our best summer assets and a serviceable center for one player and passed up the opportunity to have a shot at some solid players that are slated to go in the teens in the draft. Granted, it's early and we could trade our way back into the first round but I don't see many teams willing to give up their first round picks this year. The pick to me is the hardest thing to give up here because there's just so much bloody potential out there.

If all parties in this trade were 100% healthy, the preliminary “winner” of the trade would easily by Toronto. However, given Ford and O’Neal’s injury histories, only time will tell who won this trade. My money’s on Indiana. Ford happens to be 4 years younger than O’Neal who is 29 and although Ford’s injuries have been serious, they’ve been of the “freaky” type having to do with stingers and aggravations. He basically had one injury and fully recovered from it. O’Neal’s injuries appear to be much more chronic in nature and have a higher chance of resurfacing once again - groin, back and knee. The Raptors are definitely taking on more risk here.
