tanking for what, these are elimination games.. if they lose, they have to keep trying while theres still hope.. you cant simply bench your best player in crunch time.. doesnt make sense man

Coach Dzikic saw that they were going to lose this game, so he rested Valanciunas for tomorrow (b2b game).
+ Samardziski was returning from an injury so he gave him more playing time to adjust to the game.

how can you supposed to know youre going to lose a 4 point game?

Wow Dzikic must be genius to see that the game was out of reach with 4 point deficit and 13 minutes left. Freaking fat Einstein, no less.

He got substituted at the end of the 3rd coz he was fatigued? After 3rd quarter Rytas were trailing by 10, later Chimki increased their lead to 13 while JV was on the court. He got substituted and Chimki kept increasing their lead until there was no point to bring him back, but to give playing time to Samardziski who recently returned from an injury.

Playing 10 minutes a 19 year old makes him tired? Do you yourself believe what you just said?

In the 1st half Jonas collected 2 early fouls, and due to that he had to sit the first 2 quarters. After the break he nearly played all the 3rd quarter until he was substituted. Coach Dzikic wanted to bring a fresh player and to give Jonas some rest before the 4th quarter. Jonas played for 3 and a half minutes in the 4th quarter and got substituted again. Later on there was no point to bring him back to the court coz the game was out of reach, so Dzikic rested Jonas for tomorrow. That sums it all up.

Btw, there is an error in the boxscore, since he played for more than 10 minutes. 3rd and 4th quarter adds to 10 minutes.

Raptors should hire coach Dzikic for the remainder of the season, he tanked this one perfectly.
Play your best player, and 2nd most efficient player in the league for 10 min and sit him down immediately if he's playing good.
Classic.

Fun fact Khimki coach Kurtinaitis is the only non NBA player to participate in NBA allstar 3 point shootout in 89.

I goggled it and you found this USA: USSR game:

It's amazing how skilled these young guys were.

Sabonis' hands were softer than cotton.

Jonas is not a vetran. He can easily hold more than one full quarter. In youth championships he was playing for full 40 minutes and was fine. Of course the level of speed is different but not that much. Not to mention that raptors said his body is ready for the nba, do you really think that NBA ready body is so tired to be needed of substition after 7 minutes of gameplay in the third quarter? Particularly when Rytas was this close on breaking the game in their favor?

It is ridiculous to compare competing against grown men and your peers. Do you realize that it is harder and more tiring to battle against grown men than against your peers? When was the last time Jonas played a full quarter for Rytas without being substituted? Coach Dzikic tries to keep the intensity of the game, so he has to bring players from the bench to keep the pace or to match certain match-ups. The reason why Jonas played only 7 minutes in the 3rd quarter is that Coach Dzikic wanted to rest Jonas before the final quarter, and to keep the intensity by inserting a freshly rested player from the bench.

I understand he had to leave in 3rd q, because of another foul called on him, but he could've played the full 4th Q w/o any problem.. that guy Samardzinski was doing practically nothing..

I dont think he was called for foul?
I could see why Dzikic subbed him out, although it was weird sub anyway. I thought maybe he is resting Jonas for the last time and Jonas will play the remained 10 minutes. But I was wrong, and at the end, those rotations made no sense.

Jonas did played full quarters this season. Like game against Prokom, I am 100% sure he did played the entire third quarter, over 30 minutes in total. Thats just one example I can remember.
Euro game is slower, quarters are shorter, traveling and schedules are less intense, for NBA prospect like Jonas, it should be like walking in the park. There is no way that substitution was necessary.

fatigue cant be used as an excuse, what can we expect of him then when he comes over?? let alone you have several b2b in the NBA, Id be disappointed if he has fatigue problems... but yeah, weird move by the coach, but simply unacceptable for the importance of the game..
Another thing, these are elimination games, you DONT tank to rest for the next game, thats silly, if you can, you fight to win the series in the less possible games, not to extend the series even if Rytas have hca..
