Honest question to all: Was there ANYONE who at the very moment when they learned that the Raps had moved up to #4 in the draft, exclaimed out loud "YES!! We can now draft Scottie Barnes!!!" ?

Barnes won't have opportunities to pass to those guys if he isn't a threat to score. He really needs to show some sort of weapon on offense in terms of scoring

True. If he was a threat to score and drawing double teams it’d open up so many more opportunities for his passing to shine. Hope he gets there someday

It’ll still be an important part of his game tho. He just needs to play the 4 or 5 to bring one of the opposing bigs out of the paint and let his teammates go to work…like the Draymond role

That said, what Draymond has with Steph is also pretty unique…

I'm loving all negativity about Barnes in a summer league game thread. The Raptors board is BACK! I actually prefer Barnes over Suggs. Remember we are the Raptors, we have to take home run swings in the draft to land game-changing talent because we literally will never, ever sign a star free agent. I'm looking forward to seeing Barnes in actual NBA games I think he'll thrive in a more structured system and surrounded by talent.

Barnes is fine later lottery or outside the lottery because he is a project. His ceiling is manufactured from this board because they hope they see a Kawhi type though and that’s a far far far reach.

Late picks you can go for these types of guys but Masai tried to be cheeky for no reason.

You can do it at 20 and miss on Bruno because at that point, you have no sure thing, but at 4 you need to go both upside along with sure thing.

Scotties so called ceiling is a hope and a prayer not a reality that he’s better than guys picked below him.

You're severely underselling Barnes as a prospect. He has rare size/length coupled with elite BBIQ and NBA-ready defensive ability who can switch 1-5. That's so far beyond a "hope and a prayer" - defense is half the game. Offensively, in the short term he will thrive in transition and move the ball in the half court but struggle to finish off the dribble and defenses will likely leave him alone behind the 3 point line making him a liability.

Team has no shooters. |Offense is stagnant, nobody is cutting. Teams immediately sag off. 2-15 from three.

Well two things. One, I think Banton has more skill at this point. Two, they’re prepping Scottie to play off the ball this year.

LOL nope! I was one of the many that were sitting on the coach upset that the Raptors tend to not do the blatantly obvious. With that being said, I see why they drafted him. Scottie has superstar potential IF he puts it all together, and the Raptors have to draft that way, especially when the prospect actually wants to be there. Suggs didn't seem like he wanted to be a Raptor and most likely would've left when he had the opportunity, but that's all hypothetically speaking because we'll never truly know now.

He moved up in the mock right after we moved up in the lottery so I doubt anyone.

He wasn't on my radar for most of the year, I was a Cade and Kuminga guy.

Then after we got 4th and it became clear we were likely getting Suggs that's when I started to look deeper in Suggs and his run.

I'm happy with Barnes though, sucks that his offense is so raw for a high pick but it's whatever our front office likes his ceiling. We're likely getting another lottery pick next summer anyways,

Eyyyyyy Scottie! I like how he decisively got into the post very quickly off the dribble.

Return to Toronto Raptors
