I don't get why you say he isn't an impact player on his team. Hes been the best player on his team for 2yrs at UNC. He leads them ppg and has a 40pt on his resume.

When watching Unc, I've seen that the driving forces behind that team are kendal marshal and John Henson. Evidently its not something that shows up on a boxscore.... Watch a few games and tell me if you disagree with what I'm saying though.

I get the feeling that if Harrison has an off night it wouldn't matter as much as if Henson or Marshall do.

I mean, I am sure you make some decent observations, however I don't quite understand how you can say this. Hundreds of scouts have been following this kid since high school into college and all the way through the collegiate level for the past year. To this day, he still remains a projected top 3 pick (top pick in some instances). That is for a reason. His talent level puts him in a position such that creates significant value for him alone. The fact that he is putting that talent to good use on both the offensive and defensive end adds additional value as well.

Let's be honest, this kid is super talented. He is smooth, he is big, he is dynamic and he has a great defensive work ethic. At this point, that is something the Raptors could use desperately. I am all for drafting AD1, AD2 or even Jeremy Lamb, however if we have to choose, we better damn well take a good look at Barnes, because the duo of Derozan and Barnes is potentially, and I say this carefully, the most potent Small Forward/Shooting Guard scoring combination after those two studs in South Beach (Not counting Durant/Westbrook since Westbrook is a PG).

too early to say. A lot of these guys have flaws that I would like to see worked on this season.

Barnes/Quincy Miller with their turnovers.
Drummond with his abysmal FT shooting

I like Sullinger the most, but I don't see a Jonas/Jared or Bargs/Jared frontcourt working.

Random players that have caught my eye are Scott Bamforth from Weber State (guy converted 48% of his 3's last year), and J'Covan Brown from Texas.

yeah barnes is better than lamb imo. but both those guys arent franchise guys. both these guys cant create their own offense which is something the raptors need. i like barnes defensive potential tho, he seems to have an nba body. millers swag and skill and potential is tooooo sick lol.

Lamb's creating his own shots just fine this season.

Except that Harrison is very dependent on his pg finding him. He plays off the ball, he cannot create for himself, he is a system guy. Despite his focus on the defensive side he is far from a lockdown defender. I just don't think he is a home run swing for us. Is he a good player sure, Is he the kind of player that will change a franchise, no definitely not. He is a robin type player when we should be looking for a lead guy.

I was a huge fan of his based on reading profiles and looking at news reports, heck I argued with James Naismith for pages on end defending Barnes, but the fact remains that his development from last year has been minimal. While Harrison would be a great pickup at 5-6 I wouldn't want him with a top 3 pick.

My top choice for now is Andre Drummond.

*Alot of people are saying that the so called experts have him as a top pick. While I acknowledge that fact, I don't consider it a valid reason for personal rankings. The experts have been wrong before, anyone remember marvin williams? The guy that some reports have Barnes compared to?

Right now for me:

- A Davis is probably the best player in college.
- A Drummond and PJ3 look to have the most potential but aren't the most aggressive guys out there.
- Barnes seems to be the best all around player but doesn't have the high high ceiling some others do.
- Q Miller seems to do a bit of everything but nothing elite. Tweener.
- M Gilchrist seems to be another solid all-around player. Offense is better than I thought but still needs a ton of work
- K Marshall is the best true PG in this draft

its important to step back and realize that the stars or performance a player puts out in college basketball means relatively nothing. It is about projecting how these players will do at the next level. Furthermore, stats are completely skewed right now in cbb and to make comparisons between players on that is extremely faulty. Additionally, to judge a freshman one month into the season is very difficult.

Yup, things can change in a hurry and the outlook might look completely different at seasons end.

For eg, last season I thought we were going to come out of the draft with our future PG for sure and instead we ended up drafting the best C prospect since Camby while only 1 PG was taken top 5.

Agreed, although Drummond is getting better and PJ3 (as much as i dislike him) gets on the court soon and can begin to prove us right or wrong.

I still like Barnes but it's pretty obvious that he lacks TRUE elite potential due to his ball handling...I've said it several times but to me he looks like he will be a hyrbid of Gay/Deng which is a damn good player however our team NEEDS franchise talent especially in all likelyhood this will be the closest we'll be to another top 5 pick in the next 5 years pending some CHI like luck cuz the additions of Jonas and this pick should atleast put us back fighting to make the playoffs.

Also no great young PG will be drawn to TO as a FA destination unless it seems we have an elite player and all the right pieces to become more with them joining.

because the duo of Derozan and Barnes is potentially, and I say this carefully, the most potent Small Forward/Shooting Guard scoring combination after those two studs in South Beach (Not counting Durant/Westbrook since Westbrook is a PG).

Well HARDEN/Durant immediately nix them being 2nd best....

But I would even say that Allen/Pierce, Bryant/Odom push that further into the rearview. There's also Manu/Jefferson, Johnson/Smith (when at SF), Fields/Melo, Butler/Marion....then in the same draft the Clippers will add a SF to play alongside Eric Gordon...but atleast yes DeRozan/Barnes could be up there with these other names.

The bigger problem is BOTH of them can't create for themselves or other on the team.

What if BC trades Ed Davis+2nd round pick for a trash player+top 15 pick in 2012? Would it happen?

For example we gun for Anthony Davis, with a top 3 pick if we're lucky. Then we can pick up a PG with another top 15 pick.

Like Kendall Marshall for example.

Just my 2c but I would rather use that scenario on picking up someone like Gilchrist (or another SF that may have slipped into that realm)...I also think EDavis + 2nd rdr should net us atleast in the top 12 but who knows?!?

I also wanted to add (nothing to do with Visceral's quote), that I really think posters that love Barnes are more in love with fit then potential. Keeping in mind that DeMar, Barnes and Val would be your BEST players for years to come do you not see why some other posters are higher on different players???

That core even with a solid PG being added in free agency just screams 2nd round of playoffs *BEST CASE* happening....keeping in mind that MIA, CHI and NY will rule the East for the next 4-5 years. I can agree that adding Barnes makes it very likely we DO get there cuz his floor is low but also ensure we don't get much further either.

The only way to top that is to find a combination that has the potential to match that or top it....which is why I LOVE the thought of getting Drummond (and second Davis) cuz when you pair him with Jonas you suddenly have Twin Towers just gobbling up the post (also why I keep insisting on trying out Oden) and if your a top young FA of any position PG - SF you're going to strongly consider getting with that team and THAT would be a TRUE contender and team that the other elites would have to deal with in 2-3 years time.

I am starting to like the idea more and more of drafting Drummond. With him and Valuncinus, I dont really think it would matter who was the 4 and who was the 5. I just don't know who to compare Drummond to; he has such a unique playing style. I was thinking, in terms of playing style, Webber? But he seems to be an above average shot-blocker, so I dont know what to make of him, he is such an enigma!

I don't think it matters either. Val has a sweet jumper and is fast/athletic, he'd have no problems playing the 4.

Couldnt have said it any better James. DeMar+Barnes+Davis+Jonas core is decent - potentially really good if and only if everyone pans out - but we are so far from the likes of Miami and OKC that I think even saying we need a HR is an understatement. We need that HR to be a grand slam here.

What is everyone's opinion on kendall marshall? What if the worst happens and we are picking in the 12-14 range? oh yikes, nevermind, is averaging 5 points on 36% from the field. No thank you ha

I doubt that'll happen, but he's an intriguing prospect.

He has the potential to be a decent defender, certainly better than what Jose and Bayless have displayed. His passing game is excellent and he can create for and make people better easily. That's why I want him as a 2nd pick. His shot is abysmal but that is the easiest thing to fix, if he can improve his FT shooting and get a solid J with some corner 3s spot ups he'll be a starting quality PG easily.

the dude is a legit disher. i thinks thats good when our squad has guys like demar, ed davis, amir and val who needs a pg to create for them since they cant create that well. its okay that hes shooting 36% from the floor. thatll improve with better coaching hopefully. his court vision and size is intriguing for a pg. if he learns how to abuse smaller guards thatd be soo sick
