Although this is a great opportunity to once again remind ourselves of the terrible name that is the Utah Jazz. WTF were they thinking? It's not like the New Orleans Jazz had a great history that they needed to preserve when moving to Utah. Completely ridiculous.

I wonder how long it would take to become official? Does anyone remember hearing the jersey change process takes a few years? They have to submit the request 2 years in advance or something.

I really think "blues" could be the one.

I doubt the Jazz ownership give up that name. There has been too much history with The Stockton/malone days. Plus i doubt the NBA would want that change. Too confusing.

New Orleans Blues is the perfect name for them (though personally I do love the Jambalayas).

Based on what the owner has said, it seems like he was really in love with the "Jazz" name, and wants a name that is tied to the musical culture of New Orleans. It has to be Blues. The only other names (ie. Funk, Rhythm, Groove, etc) would sound like WNBA names.

If this happens, Charlotte should definitely apply to revert their name to the Hornets. Charlotte will turn the corner in a couple of seasons, and there is more history and success tied to the Hornets name in Charlotte than there is to the Bobcats.
