Re: Wiggins for Jonas
No team is giving up a guy that is being billed as the biggest thing since LeBron for Jonas. Come on seriously we totally overrate players on this board. Jonas is a nice young player, but he isn't nearly as special as people on this board think for example I would trade him 1 for 1 for Drummond, but Detroit wouln't do it. And I actually like JV I do. Let's be real his upside is not insane. It's really good though.

Re: Wiggins for Jonas
I'd stick with the team we have. When Lowry, Rudy and DD build chemistry, they will be unstoppable. I say let Wiggins develop and when he's a free agent, then go all out for him if needed

Not happening.
We want him for more than just being good as you know... Toronto boy... a guy that could finally start and end a career in T.O...
Thornhill is not Toronto.

Re: Wiggins for Jonas
What's the point of this thread?
Let's wait until Wiggins plays a single college game to see how much he is above other elite competition. And don't forget that Jonas is still a 20-year old who already held his own and will only improve.

Re: Raptors Official 2013 Offseason Trade Idea Thread
I think the Gay+DD combo has pros and cons. You can't deny though just how well DeMar has been playing since the arrival. I'd rather explore options to get better spacing and perhaps ball movement everywhere else, i.e. PG and PF and off the bench...then actively seek a DeRozan deal...only because I don't feel one is available.
Maybe Minny relinquishes their pick in a deal? Doubtful. My approach would be to try and win now(next year) while also maintaining a fiscally intelligent team.
How do you do that? Keep in mind, all of these ideas would be at the draft or in the off-season:
Trade: Andrea Bargnani, Landry Fields, Kyle Lowry FOR Pau Gasol, Jordan Hill
-Lakers get to team Howard with Bargs and a much needed help at PG long term.
Signings: Jose Calderon (yep bring him back to play with Pau, 3 yrs 10 million tops...I think he doesn't get more than that....sign Aaron Brooks to 2 yr, 5 million dollar deal, get another shooter: Mike Dunleavy JR, 2 yrs 6 million.
New Look Raps:
PF P. Gasol/ J. Hill/ Q. Acy
SF R. Gay/ M. Dunleavy JR
C J. Valanciunas/ A. Johnson/ A. Gray
SG D. DeRozan/ Q. Ross
PG J. Calderon/ A. Brooks
-The notion would be that one of Gasol/DeRozan/Gay is on the floor at all times to maintain proper offensive flow.
Also note that Gasol + Hill's contracts expire after next season.
Ultimate reason why I like this plan: Gasol can be had right now at 10 cents on the dollar. I don't feel he is done by any means and he and Jose can be a killer combo if paired together due to their Euro roots. Also this is the type of team that can theoretically beat the Heat if everything falls into place.
The beauty here? Worst case scenario if Gasol gets hurt again or is done or whatever, now you have a massive expiring to move at the deadline.
Again, the idea here is to get financially flexible, play the youth more AND win now. This can accomplish all three.

My ideal off-season
1-Amnesty Bargnani
2-put Kleiza on the trade market
3-re-sign Telfair for the right price
4-bring in James Jones for part of the MLE
5-bring in Nazr Mohammed for a 1yr contract with the other bit of the MLE.

Re: Raptors Official 2013 Offseason Trade Idea Thread
My "ideal" offseason would be this...
- Plan A: Try to get one of Smith/Millsap in a S&T. If it means including Ross or a pick so be it.
(If we can't do this move onto plan B)
- Plan B: Offer the Lakers a package cantered around Bargnani, Kleiza for Gasol. Assuming they keep Howard.
(If Lakers won't do that, move to plan C)
- Plan C (probably most realistic). I go to Chicago with 2 trade offers.
1. Bargnani + Fields for Boozer + Hamilton
2. Bargnani + Gray for Boozer (most realistic)
#1 would be my preference but I'd settle with #2.

This is exactly what you do in the exact same order. When it comes down to it Plan C is the most realistic option. If mgmt is worried about the dollars then they're going to have to bite the bullet and attach a pick to Fields and move him for a cheaper cap hit. What ever we get back in a Fields trade would fill one of he three bench holes, but we would need to target someone with the full MLE for some bench quality.
Lowry / ??
Demar / Ross
Rudy / ??
Boozer / Amir / Acy
Val / ??

1. How do we sign Lowry to an extension with Boozer on the books?
2. Where is the floor spacing in that lineup? This sounds like a BC type of move where he throws a bunch of expensive crap on the wall and hoping that will stick.

I'm not too enthusiastic about any of these options, other than maybe the Millsap one, which I think is going to be pretty hard to pull off anyway. Boozer, as RO7 alluded to, is just something I don't see MLSE doing due to the financial ramifications of such a move.
And the Pau Gasol one....yeah...I would be pleasantly surprised if the Lakers deal him for Bargnani, especially when have their sights set on the 2014 FA class, and Andrea's deal would eat into that.
In my mind, I think Al Jefferson would be a piece to get. He's a free agent, but maybe some sort of S&T can be worked out?? I actually think he might agree to come here, Millsap I'm not too sure about.
There's always Luis Scola, and a deal I could see happening July 1, involving some combo of Bargnani or Fields + Ross attached to it, & with Ross heading the other way, I'd hope we'd be able to pry away Jared Dudley.
Raptors:
Lowry/Lucas
DeRozan/Anderson
Gay/Dudley
Scola/Bargnani
Valanciunas/Johnson
Suns:
Dragic/Marshall
Ross/Fields
Tucker/Morris
Beasley/Morris
Frye/???
Suns put themselves in the Wiggins sweepstakes.

VaL (3.5)
Boozer (15.3) / (6.5)
Rudy (17.8)
Demar (9.5) / Ross (2.6)
Lowry (6.2) /
That's 61.4mill for next season give or take with 3 roster spots to fill and lux tax at around 70mill for next season.
with boozer lowry gay expiring in 2014/2015
I can't really any other better realistic option.

Re: Raptors Official 2013 Offseason Trade Idea Thread
Well I for one think Fields will be easier to move next deadline (id ask for a expiring). He would still be only 25 years old.
Casey mentioned a need for toughness, rebounding, post guy and Boozer fits this and is the most realistic target. I would LOVE a draft day deal of
Boozer + Hamilton (waived)
For
Bargnani + Fields
This would mean forgoing options A & B (Hamilton has to be waived before July 1) but it would help us financially. Bulls add 700k next season in a deal like the above assuming Hamilton is waived (1 million guaranteed). So if they waive Hamilton they need to sign a SG to replace him, a minimum contract is more than the 700k they add in this deal.
I also see Fields as a Thibs guy. He can stretch the floor and guard SGs for Chicago. They would break Boozers contract into 2. Bargnani could even opt out if he has a good year in hopes of landing a long term deal while he's still young.
Lowry / PG
Derozan / Ross
Gay / SF (3 point shooter)
Boozer / Amir / Acy
Val / Gray

Can Fields be amnestied in the summer? (6.5mil)
Then trade Bargs+Ross in a sign and trade for Millsap.
With Fields money plus MLE:
Resign Anderson(2 years 1.5per), Sign Dunleavy(2 years 3.5per), Aaron Brooks(1 year, 2.5per)
Lowry/Brooks/Lucas
Derozan/Anderson
Gay/Dunleavy
Millsap/Johnson
Valaciunas/Gray

Valanciunas Hawes Moultrie
Johnson Williams Acy
Gay Anderson
Dudley J-Rich
Lowry Ridnour Lucas
Two open roster spots for tryout guys to make the team. Look for the next Jamario Moon on the wings!
Gay, Lowry, and Val (give him the ball) are our big 3 for next year. Amir and Dudley fit in perfectly as complementary elite role players. Off the bench, D-Will runs in as the 3rd big man, while Ridnour plays a lot as the backup PG and in Casey's dreaded 2 PG sets (which might not be that bad with Lowry and Ridnour together). The 8th man is either J-Rich or Anderson (or upgrade), whoever earns the backup wing spot. Then Hawes plays sparingly as a 9th man / 4th big man for when it helps to have a bit more size off the bench.
We also have good flexibility with Ridnour, Hawes, and Lucas expiring (creating over $10 million in wiggle room next offseason). Extending Lowry / retaining Gay should be no problem, looking at the long term forecast.
That group should be able to make the playoffs, with long term upside lying on the shoulders of Valanciunas, Derrick Williams, and future draft picks / flexibility. I also like Arnett Moultrie quite a bit and wouldn't be surprised if he turns into a decent NBA player.

No. He's on a new team on a new contract under the new CBA.
The only players the Raptors can ever amnesty are Kleiza, Bargnani, and (not that they'd do this) Amir Johnson. Once they use it on one player, they can never amnesty another.

What about a trade with Utah.
To Utah:
Bargnani
Derozan
2nd
To Toronto:
M.Williams
Hayward
Seems fair too me. Bargnani if he regains form is better then Williams. Derozan is probably better than Hayward but it gives us a shooter.
Then sign Aaron Brooks/Samuel Dalembert.
Amnesty Klieza.
Lowry/Brooks
Hayward/Ross
Gay/Fields
Johnson/Williams
