Kind of nauseating to see Alford running around like a hero when he launched a horrid brick and got bailed out.

Basketball-wise it's a bad call, but NCAA rulebook-wise, it's the right call.

Alright, long day at work. Let's take a quick look at ESPN and see how the ol bracket is doing...

I only watch this to see the top NBA prospects so it's all about Deangelo Russell right now.

Is your bracket busted? Dont feel bad...

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the-dagger/iowa-state-destroyed-your-bracket-and-almost-everyone-else-s-190153970.html

A full 96 percent of brackets featured Iowa State winning its matchup. That was the 10th-best team of all picks. Oh, but the carnage didn't stop there. Almost 78 percent picked Iowa State to win its second game and advance to the Sweet 16. Just more than 38 percent picked the Cyclones to reach the Elite Eight, and 15.8 percent picked them to reach the Final Four.

More than 7 percent of brackets had Iowa State going to the championship, the best of the No. 3 seeds. And raise a glass to that 1 percent who had Iowa State winning it all. Also, save some love for the 0.1 percent who had UAB going to the Final Four. Those people have earned the right to laugh at all of us.

Ball was both wide right and long. Terrible call even when ignoring the fact that it was a total bailout on an awful shot.

Of course, SMU never should have been in that spot anyway.

Tbh I disagree. There needs to be human judgement element to the call... The shot was clearly not gunna have a chance to go in, was way to wide... The SMU player was prolly expecting an airball and going for the rebound.

The call might be correct if we judge it like a robot... but don't you think there needs to be context and human judgement? I say the same thing for clear path fouls, sometimes a foul occurs while the defenders foot is 5cm ahead of the guy who on the fast break, and sometimes the foul occurs when the fast breaker is 5cm ahead of the defender... but at the end of the play, the result would be the same - a fast break layup. Note that the team on the fast break is sprinting down the court while the team who turned it over are most likely all reacting to it and just turning around, not yet sprinting. Thus regardless if the defender is slightly ahead at the point of foul, the fast breaker is prolly passing him in 0.3 seconds. But my point is, there needs to be human judgement. The shot was clearly not gunna go in, lol. Oh well...
