Yes, and no matter what looking back I’ll be fine with this gamble so long as kawhi actually gives it his best this year.

Jakob will be a really solid player in San Antonio but oh well.

A much better deal than I expected. Poeltl instead of OG/Pascal is huge, as is the pick protection. I am shocked at those two things. The Spurs must have had very poor offers otherwise.

A+
Don't overthink it. None of us can see the future, you just traded DDD for a top 5 player. You weren't winning the title with last years team, now you have a piece of that puzzle. I don't think MU is done.

I know there are at least 6 stubborn DD active fanboys. But who are other 5 I wonder.

I would really really like to see arguments of neutral Raptors fan who do not like this trade from basketball's angle (without loyalty, good guy, character crap) .

A+

Rebuild starts a year early if Kawhi doesn't re-sign! Also get to watch a Toronto team with a superstar for the first time in ages even if it's only for 1 year lol

The only negative is the rose coloured glasses will come out of the closet and calls for a certain flash in the pan to have his jersey retired will see fresh air. DeRozan was on his way to be the only Raptor deserving of a jersey retirement. If this creates a vacuum, noise will be sure to fill it.

From a basketball angle, I will miss Poeltl. If we need a cheap centre, do we bring back Lucas for continuity? Do we see Ibaka play more centre? Or does Val see a huge leap in minutes?

People think a rebuild is like 2K and you can just simulate 3 seasons in 3 minutes. **** is going to suck a year from now.

Where is the option for "ecstatic"?

I'm extremely happy.
And it doesn't have anything to do with some hatred for DeMar. I like DeMar just fine.
But just for the team as a whole, what's the downside for next season or the future? The concern with a trade like this was giving up the prospects with a slightly higher ceiling (sure, not superstar ceiling but still) like OG or Siakam, or a number of first round picks. Which the Raptors were mostly able to avoid. So yes, I'm happy.

I mean, this was basically the most ideal "realistic" trade that could have happened with a likely-rental like Kawhi.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.

Masai is smart he might flip Kawhi later for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Tobias Harris & 1st Round Pick

What's funny is that I had lunch with Terrence Ross' agent yesterday. We talked about every possible scenario. Toronto never came up.

Happy? No. DD has great character, and for the first time in our history chose Toronto instead of leaving us.

Is this a very good deal for what the we are getting in return? Yes.

Will we benefit from this deal in the long term? Who knows at this point?

I'm 60/40 on this deal (slightly in favour).

On one hand, we acquired a top 5 player and a really solid and experienced 3+D vet in exchange for a backup C and a top ~20 player. The defence should be better and we should see more individual growth from the young guys on that end too. We now have four bodies (Kawhi, OG, Siakam, Green) to throw at all-star wings - which had been one of our biggest defensive issues in the past. The three-point shooting also improves with this trade.

On the other hand, it's crushing to see DeRozan go (as well as Poeltl). I honestly thought that DeRozan might play his entire career as in Toronto. He has generally improved every year and there's a chance he could have been even better this year with another offseason to work on things - plus a new head coach to hold him more accountable. I think DeRozan will have a very good year with the Spurs, though he likely won't make the all-star team. Poeltl looks to be a solid starter or very good bench C in the future and I think he's going to be really good for the Spurs too.

I'll definitely be watching more Spurs games this year. DeRozan became one of my favourite players off the court and I felt like he was underappreciated on this board. His defence was never even average, but he was consistenly the main offensive weapon for a team that has had a top 5 offence in three of the last five years (top 10 in all 5). We will likely see a slight increase in offensive efficiency with Kawhi and Green joining the team, but it still hurts to see the face of the franchise for the past (near) decade be on the way out.

They definitely got better defensively though. we got two defensive players + kept our best defenders.

The funny thing is that derozan isn't a great offensive player either.
