Think of this trade 3-4 years down the line as Masai/Bobby do. They get a 27 year old centre, that they know, trust/built who has ongoing chemistry with out core pieces. If we don't extend him, this is a problem. The goal should be to extend and get as many good players on long-term deals as we can before the cap explodes. Then they will either have value to us relative to the cap where we can sign new players(i.e GS with KD) or combine multiples for a star in a trade. Give FVV his 30, give GTJ his 20 if you can't find similar pieces now.
Thinking 3-4 years down the road is -exaxctly- why you SHOULDN'T do this trade. A 27-yr old C would be great then, not someone who will be 31 by then. Siakam and FVV will be 33 at that point and well into their decline. You don't trade picks if you're thinking long-term, period.

All this talk from Grange about Kessler is premature. 1. We don't know who we draft 2. Its Utah, he may not have even played for us this year 3.We can't quantify how Utah's style of play/conference would affect his play in the East
If you hate this trade, here's a perspective that makes it more palpable; we traded Demar , Keldon Johnson, (1) 2024 1st (2) 2nds for Kawhi and got a championship out of it. Phoenix just paid (4)1sts and (4)roster players for a chance at that. We have to give some dividends back for the Spurs screwing over Kawhi by not shipping him to LA
That 2018/19 squad was in a totally different phase of team building. They had a ton of vets and young players, and were winning 50+ games. This team is scuffling along badly and has zero depth.

Did you read the OP?
I did, whats your point. Of course peoplr are going to be emotional and vote abysmal, it still creates the perception of things being even when they arent.
Did you read the last sentence? It's just a joke, relax.

Seriously, we couldn't even lottery protect the pick lol. This is Poeltl, that's on an expiring deal. I know the plan is to re-sign him, but if he leaves, ouch.

I think I didn't make my point clear enough because I dont disagree with what you're saying here.
Point 1 that you quoted; I was more referring to the type of asset an extended Poetl becomes on a value contract with the cap exploding both to the raptors and any team looking to trade for him.
Point 2 that you quoted; I was just restructuring the original trade tree from the original Kawhi trade, not comparing teams

Not sure the direction here. It’s an odd move and not one I would make.
The thinking must be… the offers for OG, Trent, Fred and company were underwhelming. With that in mind, this group has never had a decent C. Let’s get one for cheap and see what they can do. No they aren’t contending, but it will help pick a direction. If they are good with a C, then keep building. If they aren’t, then rebuild.
I’m fine with that thinking. I don’t love it, but I’m fine with it. I would still like Fred moved and go full big line up though.

They MUST have a silent shake hand agreement with Poeltl that he's resigning.
Ummm I think that's a given here.

What is Yak as an asset worth with a contract at 15-20m per year and a cap projected at 171 million in 2025? What will a 29 year old centre at Yak's calibre cost you in 2025. The team sucks in 2023, we gave up our 2024 pick. This is adding to your asset value while also building your core.
OG on a value contract is commanding 3 1st round picks right now. Even if we suck in two years, we trade him. Worst case scenario we paid a little more for Kawhi

We are really expecting Barnes to improve his shooting, and expect Siakam to have slightly better shooting number as well.
The pick is being too lightly protected, but if it is a weak draft, I can live with it. We also freed up Birch salary, so we can probably re-sign most of our players (waiving Young if needed).
If Poetlt is a starting centre, someone will be on the bench or traded, so I assume we are not done in trading?

I’m waiting to see if there’s another move but this treadmill move for a FA we could’ve signed outright and that kills our good draft pick was trash.

Posters all up in their feelings knowing we will not go tanking for years. Hopes and dreams of Wemby and Scoot is now officially gone for this year, and their prospect hunting/ researching for 2024 is also gone.
Lets just call it what it is.
This trade is a good one. Ask yourself if it is likely to get a starting level C for the next 4-5 years with a pick in the teens in the 2024 draft. If the answer is no, then this is a good trade.
Period. You can cry that we aren't doing what you hoped we are (if so, please go back to the TWO thread, its literally made for tankers to discuss and have their own little echo chamber), but don't go saying this is not a good trade. We got a rotational player for years without having to give up anyone from our core.

Because you baited people by splitting the bad vote. The correct answer was abysmal but you said anyone who votes abysmal is a baby.
