OKC can't really acquire a superstars unless their young guys are the ones going back to acquire those stars.

SGA is on a max already. Giddey will be looking for a max after next season. Chet/Williams come up after that. I can't see them being a tax team, at least not consistently, so Presti can't really add long term money to the roster if the goal is to lock up his young core. He can add some 1-2 year commitments, but after that, the existing young guys will take up most of their cap.

Even though they are not ready to compete, they need to make a consolidation trade soon. Landing another All-Star to pair with SGA wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

That’s their best option. Teams are starting to take advantage of Presti because they know he has picks he can’t use and players he can’t keep.

He can always forward his picks for future picks like he did with Denver. Traded his least favorable 2024 1st round pick to the Nuggets for a 2029 pick. Thats not a bad strategy, for a team that needs to fill out its roster now they will do it, and he can keep moving his picks into the future.

Which guard were you thinking?

Harden actually seems like a pretty good buy low opportunity atm.

Not with Morey at the helm. He isn't going to just give him away.

Ayo is a good prospect. It’s time to move on from Flynn. He can take his spot.

Dennis and Ayo vs. Fred

IMHO Fred is the best player but the depth would be improved.

I mean they can waive Rudy Gay, Oladipo, Bertrans, and a couple of scurbs they added as trade fodder in Tyty Washington and Garuba. None of those really stick out as useful pieces.

Problem is he's not getting equal value back for them. Didn't he trade like three FRPs for Ousmane Dieng?

I mean yeah 2-1 is always better, but I haven't seen anything from Ayo in my limited viewing experience that excites me. He had a down year across the board for a team that needed PG play with Ball out all year. That regression from deep (37.1% > 31.2%) for a team that ranked dead last in 3PM & 3PA is concerning when as a team we are in a similar boat with putrid floor spacing. Dennis isn't helping in that department either.

That said, his finishing ability at 67.9% at the rim with his 6'5 frame would be night and day from what we saw from Fred last year and likewise Schroeder.

I'm all for them grabbing Ayo. He's nothing special but young enough that he can hopefully grow into something really good. Now that we are getting back to our development roots, he is exactly the type of low-risk high-reward youngster we should be targeting.

or he can trade a couple of those pieces(giddey and Williams) with all their picks and get Doncic..

The west is stacked! Other than the spurs and the rockets who just got FVV and brooks, every team believes they're going to the playoffs. If the Mavs miss again? Doncic will demand a trade and OKC will be the fav to get him by far

I mean he really wanted Dieng who knows what he'll turn into, and unknown at the moment. Also the picks they traded are ones if they don't convey turn into 2nds. Those picks are highly protected from Detroit and the Wiz, so nothing really that great.

Two of the picks came from the Knicks and are highly unlikely to convey.

2024 first round draft pick from Detroit
Detroit's 1st round pick to New York protected for selections 1-18 in 2024, 1-13 in 2025, 1-11 in 2026 and 1-9 in 2027; if Detroit has not conveyed a 1st round pick to New York by 2027, then Detroit will instead convey its 2027 2nd round pick to New York (via Houston to Oklahoma City) [Detroit-Houston, 11/24/2020; Houston-Oklahoma City, 7/30/2021; New York-Oklahoma City, 6/23/2022]

2024 first round draft pick from Washington
Washington's 1st round pick to New York protected for selections 1-12 in 2024, 1-10 in 2025 and 1-8 in 2026; if Washington has not conveyed a 1st round pick to New York by 2026, then Washington will instead convey its 2026 2nd round pick and 2027 2nd round pick to New York (via Houston to Oklahoma City) [Houston-Washington, 12/2/2020; Houston-Oklahoma City, 7/30/2021; New York-Oklahoma City, 6/23/2022]

lol welcome to the concept of buy low.
If he had two good seasons he would not be available. Even if he becomes a solid role bench player that’s a win for us.
