Yeah this is really 'who can be a 3rd string energy guard for next year' sort of investigation. Between him and JFL etc.

I'm not sure what people keep seeing in JFL, he looks pretty meh, and isn't he always injured?

Even JFL isn't a PG so if they were to bring him over, I doubt he takes many PG minutes from Barnes.

FO sent out Schroder for nothing to force Darko's hand. They brought in Kelly to give Scottie a stretch big and Darko a secondary playmaker to ease his hesitation of playing Scottie at the point. And then Bobby went up on the podium and said point blank "hopefully we now start seeing more of Scottie at the point".

Pretty clear they want to see Barnes develop in multiple roles before deciding on the exact roster to put around him. No way they're going to inject a real back up PG into that equation, at least this year though probably next year as well. Pretty much every player brought in outside Barrett is a "on paper complement" to Scottie: scoring lead guard, stretch big, 3+D wings and guards, etc.

I agree, I just don't see how JFL would fit into that, unless it's A) just a shot in the dark or B) some attempt at filling the gap GTJ will leave when he walks.

Even then, I really haven't been impressed with his game.

I see some size, natural and fluid athleticism and decent motor. His shooting is meh, seems like the numbers say it was better last year.

Do I think he's going to be anything special? nah. Could he be a 9-12 guy who gives us some energy spark or does some emerg fill in on injury? Maybe.

If he's just gonna run out the rest of the season, no complaints on my end. But I hope we don't see another Dowtin situation where everyone and their mother is losing their minds cause he's not playing, as if he is some unearthed gem lol.

Lol, no. I said "Who is auditioning for a 3rd string energy guard". So my expectations are very low.

Wasn't a shot at you, just the general lunacy I saw across the internet with Dowtin last year lol

Remarkable how quickly Masai pivoted from all 6'9 to a seriously undersized roster.

Here are some observations from watching DJ Carton's highlight videos on YouTube:

- He has a floater and runner in his skill set.
- Carton is adept at using bully ball with his left hand, attacking the paint, and finishing from various angles.
- He demonstrates impressive hops, hang time, and athleticism, making him a powerful dunker and a prime target for alley-oops.
- Carton shows confidence in shooting the three-pointer, executing step-back 3s with good footwork and form.
- He displays fearlessness and the ability to draw contact for fouls, depending on the referees.
- His ball-handling skills are above average, and he exhibits unselfishness as a passer and playmaker with good basketball IQ, contributing positively to team chemistry.
- Carton can hit mid-range jumpers from the elbow and free throws consistently.
- He tends to be in the right places at the right times for pickoffs and steals defensively.
- Carton's attitude and high motor are notable aspects of his game.

In conclusion, I'm excited to see what Carton can accomplish given the opportunity, provided that Darko gives him a chance.

We haven’t hit on a single fringe player in over 5 years and we’re not about to start now.

Has he had any previous NBA stints?

Wonder when we'll find our Embiid considering there's one hundred walking around in Africa.

Masai was definitely exaggerating but the point was these guys don't get the opportunity to play basketball at all at a young age. You're taking it too literally but I guess that's expected with some.

It's like when Bryan Colangelo brought in Maurizio Gherardini. He was supposed to be supper connected in Europe, and give us access to all these hidden gems in the Euro league. Maybe he helped bring in Garbajosa his first year, but that was it from then on. Zilch. Nada.

Masai has been bringing in the Africans from US college ball - Precious, Koloko, and now Agbaji. But nothing directly from Africa. We seem to have no advantage in that regard.

10 day sign on players are usually 10 days to see what they have, so time will tell if he can stick.
