I actually like this for us.

I think we should buy low on Morant.

Risky proposition, but there are a few factors.

Ja in Canada won’t be able to live his thug life. His crew probably all have criminal records and wouldn’t get across the border.

The Darko relationship does make me wonder how important it was. Ja started going downhill after Darko left.

I think Ja’s game markers well in bringing some excitement with his athleticism and power dunks. Fees a lot like VC trade we did. All in all I would do it.

I keep forgetting about the Darko connection. It would be interesting to know what Darko thinks of him........although I think Darko is a bit of a softie & tries to see the best in everyone.

Ja is like a modern day Iverson, with less talent, but better shoes.

If his crew can't come, then I don't think Ja is coming - also a strong no on Ja & LaMelo - stay the course with a minor tweak to get under the tax.

Quickley, Agbaji, and Dick for Morant and Vince Williams works and gets us under the tax. I'm not a huge Morant fan and have concerns about his personality, injury history, and terrible play this year. He could be a disaster, but he's also a major ceiling raiser if he bought into Raptors culture. We absolutely could use a guy like him who can get by people off the dribble and create open shots.

Morant / Shead
Barrett / Walter / Williams
Ingram / Battle / Temple
Barnes / CMB / Mogbo
Poeltl / Mamu

Darko was an assistant coach in Memphis during Morant's peak, and he'd likely have a good read on whether to make that move or not.

Hollinger linking Ja to Toronto:

Toronto? Now we might be getting warmer. There’s a trade there that could let everyone win the press conference: Immanuel Quickley, Ochai Agbaji and Colin Murray-Boyles for Morant. Toronto, which has been giving off win-now vibes and whose name has come up in discussions for other big veteran names (such as Anthony Davis), would raise its immediate ceiling and put Morant at the controls of an up-tempo team that could use his shot creation in the half court. Morant would also reunite with a familiar face in former Grizzlies assistant Darko Rajaković.

Quickley’s contract runs one year longer than Morant’s, and while the number isn’t as imposing ($32 million a year), it’s arguably just as far underwater on production. The deal would give Memphis a more reliable backcourt starter while the franchise evaluates the rest of its roster at a lower price. The pain point would likely be Murray-Boyles; Toronto might not be comfortable letting him go and instead offer Ja’Kobe Walter as a prospect. Alternatively, the Raptors could offer their lottery-protected 2026 first-rounder in a potential trade for Morant

Fk NO to CMB being involved in any trade especially not for Morant

Canada is another planet compared to Memphis. Change of scenery is what Ja needs. Quick, Ochai, and Temple...im for this move. Buy low, and hope that Ja turns over a new leaf. Isn't Ja actually a point guard?

He'd be untouchable for anyone but Giannis.

Yeh definitely wouldn’t include CMB. cMB is OG 2.0 but the durable version. I definitely want to keep him around. Rather give up a first than trade CMB.

People talk a lot about injury risk with Davis, Trae and LaMelo. Ja might be the most fragile of them all. I didn’t know till I checked. This is Ja’s seventh year in the NBA. He has averaged less than 50 games played per season. With his rookie year at 67 being the highest. That’s a bit scary and it’s been trending downward since. Gulp!

Yeah CMB does not play like OG imo....OG is one of the best 3 point shooters especially from the corners....CMB is not even close...

CMB is a worse defensive Draymond atm....On offense CMB has a long way to go but on defense he is special.

If we can get him for the same package we offered for Young then I would be down.

IQ + Dick + Agbaji + 2027 1st + 2028 1st swap for Morant and Landale

Poeltl / CMB / Landale
Barnes / Mamu
Ingram / Battle
RJ / Walter
Morant / Shead

I don’t even think he’s worth the flier because he’s not a fit. He cannot shoot the ball and that’s going to make the team worse

I think he ends up in Miami. They love their star reclamation projects, and that is what Ja has become until his body falls apart.

Heat have a player they don’t want to extend in Herro, so there is your deal. Your problem for my problem.

The decision for Memphis may come down to these 2

Image

Memphis may prefer having Quickley signed to a longer term as Memphis also has trouble signing free agents.

Or maybe they end up with neither. The Bucks are desperate to make a deal. Maybe Herro gets shipped there for Kuzma and the Bucks 2031 FRP?
