Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 8
Goran Dragic has turned out pretty damn good, guy doesent get enough pub.
Anyways, I think an Anthony Davis is the only one that can instantly help turn around this team, otherwise we might be in for at least 2 more years of Tanking as much as I hate to admit it since my expectation in that they will make the playoffs next year is gradually vanishing.

Wow you have a pessimistic view on our next 2 years. We could be on a rise after next year. Heck, we might even go on a hunt for 8th spot and year later we might battle for 4-5th. Just saying, I have an optimistic view on the next 2-3 years, not sure we even have to tank next year either.

With a line up of,
Val/Amir
Bargs/Ed
Gilchrist/JJ
DeRozan
Bayless
And an extra 12 million in cap space or 22 million if Jose is annestied another tank season (third in a row!?!) shouldn't even be put in Raps fans thoughts. Next year is 8th seed or die trying this team isn't that much worse, talent wise, than the Bucks or heck even the Sixers.

Tanking is a deliberate action, usually achieved by making personnel moves to make the team worse in the short run (like not using all of our cap space, or signing minimum wage vets like Rasual Butler). Sucking is not deliberate. We might suck next year, but it's hard to imagine any commitment to tank again.

If BC shows his magic during off-season...
Val/Amir
Bargs/Ed
Barnes/JJ
DeRozan
Nash
this will get us somewhere in the playoff standing.

Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 8
The lottery can't come quick enough!
I'm still very, very intrigued with Drummond. I think he will really impress a lot of GMs at workouts. He's a project still but Val will also be a project that will take some time. Drummond and Val in the frontcourt could be serious building blocks...especially if Val's offensive game starts to pan out...It would be something like Bynum and Gasol. No doubt about it though, Drummond's raw as hell so I'd hook him up with a good big man coach and Hakeem as soon as he gets here.
Other than that, in no specific order I like Barnes, Beal and Lamb for the wings and Sullinger for the post. It'll obviously come down to who's on the board when our turn comes.
I would look to move Ed in this draft for Miller as he's presently a mid-late first rounder and we need an SF. He's got all the tools to be a good player and this could be a great buy-low opportunity. Of course we'd have to work him out, measure him, interview him.. the whole protocol but I like the guy and I think he's a much better player with a higher ceiling than Harkless. No way in hell I move Ed for Kabongo when he's likely available in the second round... that would be a huge waste. I'd look at packaging our two second rounders and see what that gets us..,maybe a team doesn't want to take on a guaranteed contract and would trade their late first. I'd look at Fournier (stash in Europe), Moultrie, Lamb or Taylor down there.

Nahh, Drummond/Val won't work
You can't have 2 young bigs and expect it to work.
With Pau/Bynum Pau was already established before Bynum was even drafted
David Robinson was already a top player when Tim Duncan was drafted
Plus if Drummond becomes good it's going to take 3-4 years of him sucking hes like a less talented but more athletic Derrick Favors

I dont see Drummond doing much workouts and likely not directly against competition.
Agent will try to protect him the president.
Be fortunate with a Barbra Walters sit down interview.

I'd only take Drummond if we knew we could flip him for something of significant value to a team wanting to take a chance on him. Hopefully we can get into the top 3 and essentially guarantee us one of MKG/Barnes/Beal, because this team desperately needs some talent on the wings.

Val/Drummond certainly wouldn't work too well in their first year. Maybe better later on.
Though you do make a good point, should a young big man always play/grow with an experienced big man playing beside him? I'm not sure of the stats on this, but it definitely makes sense.

Yeah at this point, even if he really impresses us in workouts I'd be looking to trade Drummond for something great at the 1/2/3. The potential is there but it's unlikely that he reaches it here when we have such a full big man rotation. A. Davis seems like the only big man worth shifting things around for, while guys like T-Rob, Sullinger, and PJ3 look like they could have solid bosh/boozer like careers if they pan out.

If we don't get #1 and we fall to 5 and guys like Davis, Barnes, and Lamb are off the board, I could see us trading the pick and absorbing a young player that fits a need here. I think the Barbosa trade gives BC a back up plan and I think this might be it. Especially if BC is looking to sign Nash this off season, he might have to get a proven guy to play with him. Just a thought.

Pretty much my thoughts. If Davis, Lamb and Barnes are off the board, I just don't see any other 2-way all-star potential in the lottery. There are several solid starters in MKG, Beal, Robinson and a bunch of guys with big time bust potential who will need years to develop in the likes of Drummond and PJ3. But the risk/reward is too high on them and I don't think raptors brass have the patience with where our rebuild is.
If Davis, Lamb and Barnes are off the board I'd like to see the pick moved. If they see themselves getting a PG in free agency, this roster needs an all-star talent on the wings and I expect they'll look to package the pick to get it. Or they go the other route and trade for Rondo using the pick and look to fill the other gaps through free agency.

I would not trade Ed for mid pick like 15-25. We drafted him 13th, high enough to be an impact player, but we havent given him enough time yet. If he bulks up, learns from his experiences, he could be a great sixth man. That being said, I would move both seconds for a first to nab kabongo and slide bayless as a 2. We then have kleiza's contract and Calderon's expiring to worry about (probably trade calderon in the offseason with kleiza for a late first and some larger expiring contracts coming back
Nash/Kabongo
Derozen/Bayless
Barnes/JJ
Bargs/Ed
Val/Amir

Why on earth would we trade Ed for Kabongo who hasn't proven jack yet? I know the potential is there but he's worth no more than a 2nd round pick at this point, especially after laying a deuce in the tournament.
